Brez had no clue what was going on, because like I said that type of stuff does not happen at the division three level.

"No clue?"  I'm afraid that it wasn't Brez that had no clue, or if he did then that is ... a sad reflection.  What you are confusing is the National Letter of Intent, used to commit a student and school to one year of attendance/scholarship, and a commonly sent letter of intent, sort of an introduction letter often sent by prospective students asking for a meeting or introduction to explore the school or program.  The letter of intent was most commonly used in the days before the Internets and the forms on the school website where a student could answer the question, "Do you want to be a Warhawk?"  although it is not entirely unheard of even today with the technophile kids we have.  A National Letter of Intent is a signed and returned form sent originally from the school to the prospective student.  Kind of like a job offer (yes, I know I'm making an assumption here).

So, I guess that shows you what a kid gets for trying to stand out a bit by being more formal and trying to draw attention to his worldly knowledge and manners.  But can he run fast?

Badger,

Let's not forget Matt Blanchard the MUC legacy QB that is coming to WW. It won't matter, he will be treated with the same kindness and respect that the MUC defense has given to all WW QB's. ;)

What's also interesting is we have a RB who seems to have some skills coming from Wabash, IN. Nice to pluck those kind of kids right from under the nose of a pretty good program. He probably just wanted to get away. We get some of that backlash in the Alliance area.

The town of Wabash, IN, is over a hundred miles from Wabash College in Crawfordsville.  Reportedly, there have been occasional freshmen (and opposing teams) who have gone wrong! ;)

This LOI was faxed on national signing day which I believe was Wednesday Feburary 3,2005. So it was intent to be like a scholarship school LOI. Like I said it's D3 anyone who want to come out and play. of course at the WIAC schools a lot of those kids get cut b/c of the 100 man roster however at other D3 schools they have a lot of kids who may never see the field and are on the team just so they can say I played football at XYZ college/universoity,and "WE won a championship" Like I said this does not happen much in the WIAC.

I posted awhile back that I was looking for a list of 2009 UW-EC recruits and got a reply, but have not found a list.  Does anyone have a link for that?

badgerwarhawk

I don't have a link to any list of EC recruits but here is a link to a specific recruit....

I don't know about the other states, but in Ohio most high schools have a "signing day reception" in the gym for the newpapers, parents, coaches, players, etc to get a little attention for signing their LOI's.  I've also seen high schools have the all the HS players that will be playing football in college sitting at the same table so they can sign for the camera.  Regardless of what division the kid was going to or whether the paper they were signing meant anything.

It doesn't happen a lot in Ohio, but I've seen this scenario a few times.  Usually at the small, rural schools that don't have any real scholarship recruits.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

I always laugh at those when they involve Division III schools.  What are they signing?  A housing contract?  Meal plan application?  Their physical form?  (Frankly, I think they're almost just as silly when they involve D-I and D-II recruits.)

There's a classic story about a D-III football coach from the Upper Midwest who was invited to a high school signing ceremony for a recruit in Texas. His parents told the coach, "Just bring the Letter of Intent with you."  Since he was already at the airport he did what he could. He pulled out his laptop and created a "Letter of Intent" that looked very official, but had all the binding committment of 15-year old jock strap.  He stopped at Kinko's when he landed, printed it out and smiled politely while the school watched his recruit sign a meaningless piece of paper.

My old high school in Tulsa does exactly that.  I called it to the attention of the football coach the first time I saw them do it for player going to a D-3 school, but he told me that he likes the publicity it gives the player and that he is the one who sets up the ceremonies.  And he's from Minnesota, so he certainly knows about D-3 schools.  Oh, well - go figure.  People in Oklahoma have very little idea about D-3 schools, so it probably is a distinction that would be lost on them anyway.

WIAC release this week indicates UWEC and UWSP win the All-Sports Awards for the last academic year...

Blugold women won the women's award; the Pointers garnered the men's and combined prizes...

Congrats to all the recent graduates and thanks for your contributions to WIAC sports over the past few years...

An official NCAA Letter of Intent is a valid contract between the student-athlete and the academic institution.

We all know that there is no NCAA LOI for D3.  Therefore no legal bond that is entered when one commits to a D3 school to compete.

But I do think it is meaningful (or at least should be) when a kid publicly announces that he has committed to attend a school with the intent to play football.

Many moons ago a committment, giving a man your word, used to be a matter of honor.  Those days are gone when even Official LOI's are being broken and certainly the D1 Verbal "committment" is a joke.

But it should be applauded, I think, that a kid is willing to announce his committment to a D3 school.  Everyone then knows that the kid is not receiving direct athletic financial aid to play.  Some may interpret that as one is not good enough to attract that level of interest.

Whatever.

Simply that a kid gives his word and follows up is, to me, significant...and it is part of becoming a man.

I preferred the days when kids could pick a college without having to be applauded.  No cheerleaders, no pep rallys, no obnoxious hat-switching theatrics.  Just sign the sheet, put it in the fax machine and say thank you to mom and dad.

I guess I'm officially old.

Well BoBo,

The only directions that are ultimately important on this board are those from Alliance/Minneapolis to Salem, VA. I am very clear on those. Plenty of experience there. I won't need a map! ::)

I don't consider any DIII athlete committed until they are enrolled at the school for the fall term.

raiderguy, Mount Union fans should just buy a condo unit in Salem.  ;)
