The WIAC is well represented in the recently-released Directors' Cup final standings... Out of 420 schools, the conference placed five in the top 17 -

UWSP = 7
UWL = 11
UWEC =12
UWW = 15
UWO= 17

Williams, Middlebury and Amherst were the top 3...

Photos of UW-Lax new track and field/football stadium

What a beautiful facility in a gorgeous setting! That should help recruiting.
What are the buildings on the hill?

Thanks for the link to the article about Justin Beaver, too. I love his attitude.

I agree with Mrs. Coco, the new LAX stadium looks great.  Is this stadium only for the university or is it a shared facility with the city and the local school district?  I know some of the WIAC facilities I've been to get double use.

Coco - the buildings on the hill in the picture might actually be the rocky facade that is not covered with trees at the moment.... But there is a shelter house at the top, which you can't really see, and a lookout point... There is also a nice flagpole, where the stars and stripes fly, lit up with two spotlights... On New Year's Eve, at midnight, the local fireworks group shoots off fireworks from atop the bluff, named Grandad's Bluff...

Warthog: The facility is owned by UWL, but two local schools = La Crosse Central and La Crosse Aquinas = rent the football field... The pictures provided in the link were of a break-in track meet sponsored by UWL, but the grand opening was the state high school track meet a few weekends ago... UWL has hosted that for a number of years now...

UWW #2 in the pre-season Lindy poll.

First poll I've seen that doesn't have the 'Hawks at #1..so far. Not that it makes a big difference. It's been a bit slow on the boards lately so i thought i'll post something.

The rest of the league got the shaft...there should be at least one other WIAC team in the top 25!

JB scored a two yard TD run last night in the final Pre-Season Game (They only play 2 in CFL) for the Roughriders.  They lost to Calgary.  Final cuts to come on Thursday.  Rosters cut to 46 total with a 7 man practice roster.

I posted this on the ASC board but thought the Whitewater faithful would want to see it as well.

"The Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL just made their first major cut and it appears Jerrell Freeman of UMHB has made the cut.  He is not on the most current transaction list at http://www.riderville.com/news/press_releases/3259/Justin Beaver (RB) of Whitewater made the practice team, Juan Joseph (QB) of Millsaps was released and A. J. Raebel (LB) of Whitewater was released earlier after trying to make the team as a defensive end."

We're all at Summerfest. You should be too  :D. Congrats Beav, all your hard work is paying off. Keep going man, we're all proud of you.

On another note, does anyone know if track meets at UW-LAX will now have ten individuals in the finals of competitions? Normally the amount of athletes that make finals in track or field competition depend on the amount of lanes that the track has. Traditionally it has been 9 lanes with 9 people to finals but with the addition of another lane it asks the obvious question.

I've seen meets where they leave lanes 1 and 10 open because lane one is usually torn up a bit.  But, with it being a new track, maybe they will fill all lanes.

Thanks, bulk19. The whole area is beautiful, and the flag with spotlights on it must be a stirring sight.

Congratulations to Justin Beaver for making the practice team. At least it's a paycheck, and he'll move up before long.

Is Summerfest the same as Milwaukee Fest?  I grew up in N.Ill. and remember going to Milwaukee Fest a couple of times.
