You're correct '02.  I should have also have given credit where it was due.  A good offensive line can make an average back look pretty good but even the best backs aren't going to do very well behind a below average offensive line.  My bad.

Don't fret raider, with Muskingum and Heidelberg on your schedule you've got at least two wins. ;) :D

Heidelberg is getting better with former MUC Player, Mike Hallett, as the HC.

kirasdad:  With the defense and O-line that Mount has coming back, I could play QB this fall and MUC would still this the regular season 10-0.

I know.  Just stating that Heidelberg is not the doormat they used to be.

I have to admit to not knowing squat about either Muskingum or Heidelberg.  Those were just the two most obscure looking names on Mount's schedule.

Regardless of how good Mount Union's defense and offensive line are they wouldn't win many games with me at quarterback.   I tried it once in high school but I was so slow that the back would be into the dive hole before I could turn and hand him the ball.  Consequently I remained at tight end.  Truth be told I wasn't much quicker at that either.  :)

There's a good reason you know nothing about those 2 teams.  Musky absolutely sucks.  H'Berg is getting better but still has a long, long way to go before they could hope of hanging within 30 of the Raiders' 2nd string, let along the varsity.

On the speed thing, I'm an old, fat ex-center and defensive tackle that had no where near the speed to even play TE back in high school.  But that's the beauty of the MUC offense.  About half the plays are from the shotgun with the TB standing right beside the QB.  So all I'd have to do is catch the ball and hand it directly to the TB.  The most strenuous task might be walking from the huddle to the line of scrimmage.....

I was once told that I ran hard but too long in the same spot.
Reminds of a golf instructor I once had.

After watching me hit he said, "You're standing too close to the ball."
"You mean when I take my stance?"
"No, I mean after you swing."

Quincy Daniels returning saved me from having to make a Coppage/Anderson call, basically.

took the easy way out i see  ;) Daniels is a tallented back, i don't blame you  :)

Which is why the decision was even more difficult. :)

Anderson was a 2008 second team D3Football All-American and Coppage was on the third team.   What factor during the off season would have placed Coppage, as talented as he is, before Anderson on the 2009 preseason team, assuming that D3Football felt he was more worthy of the higher placement in 2008?

wow, I really thought UWW will get the #1 preseason ranking. or at least receive more than a pair of first-place votes with the amount of returning starters from last year's Stagg Bowl team.

No worries though, we're used to playing the role of bridesmaid under the powerhouse that is Mount Union. Looks like they are stacked again with new tallent to fill the rolls of Micheli and Kmic. Hopefully there's a large learning curve  ;D

Glad to see UWSP ranked 7th, good for them and the WIAC. That'll be the WIAC game of the season: UWW at UWSP. I may have to make the drive up for that one.

I thought the battle over the #1 spot would be closer too.   If I had a vote, Whitewater would have been first, MUC second.  Both bring back the vast majority of their teams from last season but MUC loses the QB/TB whereas Whitewater returns both of them.

It will take a ton of injuries or a HUGE upset for UWW/MUC to not face off in Salem again.

That or the NCAA has a brain fart and pairs their regions up in the semi's.

Agreed, anything other than a 5th consecutive meeting in Va. would be a disappointment for both programs...Frankly I want another crack at the Purple Raiders.  ;D

voice - good job on the WIAC blog. Looking forward to read your take on the WIAC this year as you breakdown each team.
