In an effort to get this board out from hibernation....I was reading the ASC board, and a poster mentioned that Whitewater was the one who pulled the plug on the MHB-UWW series. I was just curious, for all those in the know (Voice, Jvilleflash, badgerwarhawk. etc..), if there was any truth to that.

It seems odd that UWW would do that given its trouble filling its schedule the past couple of seasons. Or did they just not want to push their luck against the Cru after beating them 4 times in 3 years.  :P

Speaking of series, i would love to see a 4-5 season series between UWW and St. Johns..that would be a great opportunity for both squads to gain experience against quality teams, as well as a fun time for both fans. However, given the financial cutbacks lately, it doesn't seem likely.

I obviously can't confirm this, 02, but my roomate, who played for four years last year was '07 - was talking to Dinks about that after the game and if I recall correctly what he told me was that they could only afford one long trip everyother year.

NOW, I also believe him mentioning that UMHB wanted us to go down there in '08 but we couldn't afford that. I also wouldn't rule out that they already had Puget Sound on the schedule. Either way, the first part I'm 95% sure on (the money part) whether it was because of scenerio A or B, I couldn't tell you 100%, but I want to say its the former rather than the latter.

Some down deep in the heart of Texas that think WW dodged the potential game with UMHB.  The real story was more logistics and budget concerns that resulted in passing on the intersectional non-conference game.

Didn't the WIAC announce recently that the teams could only travel one game out of the region and there was a limit on how far/how much $?

With football schedules already made, the one game outside the "established regional perimeter." won't start this season. It might not be until 2011 - not sure.

The exact wording in the WIAC cost-cutting news relead is: •Restricting teams to taking no more than one trip during the regular-season outside of an established regional perimeter.

That would seem to be as good a reason as any to not continue the MHB series. It did not stop Oshkosh from scheduling the Raiders for '10 & '11. And they don't travel to Alliance until the '11 season. OAC and WIAC as I mentioned earlier is one direction to look for games, unfortunately OAC teams have only one open date a year.

We may be on a couple pages here. You are absolutely right, that limitation was made by the WIAC- just a couple months ago. However, as long as 02 Warhawk and I are on the same page, we are talking about immediately after that series ended, so a couple of years ago. Ergo, the restrictions would not be applicable. And, 02, if you're talking about more recently, sorry that I'm going somewhere else with this.

Wasn't a part of the WIAC scheduling problems is that more locally based teams weren't all that willing to schedule WIAC teams?  It could be kind of hard to stay inside of a regional perimeter if teams won't play you.  To get to a 10 game schedule with only 1 game out of region but inside a regional perimeter.  You would have to schedule 2 games against either MIAC, IIAC, or Midwest Conference teams.  Then find 1 more game against  CCIW, NAC or UMAC teams.  That might be a challenge to get done.  Though, in this economy, WIAC teams might find it easier to schedule some of these teams as they won't want to travel great distances either.  I know IIAC teams are beginning to schedule WIAC teams more now.  BV, Central and Dubuque all have WIAC teams on this years schedule.

They may have to play another WIAC team twice.  One as a Conference game and one as a Non-Conference Game.  Two of the schools had to do that last year.

Oshkosh and River Falls have also done it in the recent past.

With the opening games less than a month away, I thought I would invite all those interested to participate in the WIAC Pickem challenge this season.  I will be again keeping track of the picks.

Anybody who is interested, come on over to the Pickem board and chip in your 2 cents about how we should structure the scoring for this season.  All are welcome!

Football season is here!!      ;D

Stealth back from extended TDY and hoping all is well on the mid western front. Count me in. As a mid to low pack player from last year I am looking forward to many more beat downs this season. I am very pleased to see that UWW has the visitor stands back in action. Nice to watch the web casts and see the visiting stands in tears, disbelief and other states of disarray.

Attempted to look into Dickinson State (UWW's first game), to see what they bring to the table. they are ranked 15th in the NAIA pre-season poll. However, I always have a tough time judging these NAIA teams.

I attached last season's stats (along with their 2008 roster), nothing really jumps out at me offensively that impressed me. They will be starting a new QB this year as last year's started graduated. Looks like they will also miss their All-American DB as he graduated as well (he led the NAIA in ints/game last year with .9). There leading rusher will return for his Sr year, and most of their O-line will be returning as well.

DSU began their 2008 season losing its first three games. Then ran off 7 in a row before losing the final game of the year, but not before winning their conference title.

Just something to chew on until next month.. :-\
