Passing on Beaver was a mistake all right. What other factors have cotributed to WW's recent dominance of the WIAC ?

IMHO:

Started out with great recruits by the coaching staff, as well as scheduling very challenging DIII teams outside the WIAC. Combine that with great football facilities and we were able to assemble some competitve teams.

I also think geographically UWW may have a recruiting advantage b/c of its proximity to the Milwaukee and Chicago markets (compared to most WAIC schools). We had some great tallent come out of IL. Even though they had to pay out of state tuition  ;D

Whitewater hasn't moved. I think it all started with the dedication to strength and conditioning. People were held to a higher level of accountability than what they'd been held in the past.

Well, here is a scary thought then.  Coach Brown, UWW strength and conditioning coach for many years has been hired away to Oshkosh!   :'(

No complaints about that from this guy...  8)

UWOs offseason workouts were very intense already so I'm curious how Coach Brown will tweak it.

Adding an O-Coordinator out of the LK school of higher football learning didn't hurt either!  ???
But as always LK made adjustments and knocked them out last year. ;D
Now with Blanchard and Coach Z if WW wins anything it will still have a Mount influence to credit. 14-1 is still pretty good.
I hope those words don't come back to haunt me? ::)

No doubt the area is rich in football talent. What is that amount...it still is a state school based number as opposed to private school numbers. Just curious.

It's an interesting ? but I don't think you can say just one thing has brought UWW to the top of the D3football world consistently. The wonderful facilities, coaching, strength programs, lack of D2 teams in Wisconsin, and on and on. Now with the tremendous success of the program potential players are chomping at the bit to play for the Warhawks where 6 or 7 years ago that was not the case. It is true when they say success breeds success especially when you talk about UWW ..........Pound the Rock!........

True so true. Not just one thing makes it happen. Coach B said playing Mount in 02 & 03 also gave them insights on what it takes to get to the top. Now WW suffers from that same success. Nobody wants to play you in those out of confernce games. I am so pleased to see a MUC & UWO Series. It sounds like they are trying to make a move now too.  ;)

Taking the strength coach from WW is interesting. I wonder if he will require the football players to have passes to get into the weight room? ;D

I was impressed with Blanchard in the scrimmage.   He's a big, strong looking kid who moves well and has a pretty decent arm.

Bet it will be interesting at the Blanchard family Thanksgiving dinner this year.  Would love to be a fly on that wall.   ;)

Per Semester It's about $6,000 for WI resident , vs $10,000 non-WI resident (excluding Min  ::)) undergrad

I roll my eyes b/c being from IL we had to fork over non-resident cash. MN has a reciprocity type deal so they can avoid paying out of state tuition.

Right on 02.....the out of state tuition was daunting but we wouldn't trade the 5 years for anything......

+K Sakman...got that right. met my future wife at UWW and currently live outside of Milwaukee. Now I won't have to worry about paying out of state for my kids  ???

Their was talk on the board this morning in regards to Matt Blanchard, a transfer from Northern Michigan.

Matt's older brother, Derek, was an All-American offensive lineman at UW-Whitewater's chief rival, Mount Union College. How good of a player was Derek Blanchard? He was joined by Justin Beaver as a finalist for the 2007 Gagliardi Trophy signifying Division III's player of the year.

KOOL 106.5 radio is running twice daily Warhawk Trainning Camp Reports.  The reports are podcast on sister station's Website. The Blanchard podcast aired this morning.

Here is the link to the Warhawk Training Camp Report Podcasts that have aired this week...

Update from past posts:
The "real deal" quit the program after a couple of practices so I hear. Donovan looks great and Blanchard will be a huge addition to the QB corps.

Another Cal. QB headed to WW.

http://colfaxrecord.com/detail/107074.html

I can comment here. Colfax High School is a small school football power in the Sac-Joaquin football section in Northern California. They run a high octane, gunslinger offense and are known for turning out very good quarterbacks. Also, Colfax is in the Sierra foothills heading up to Lake Tahoe and the kids have a reputation as being hard working, tough kids. I can confirm that is true as we played them when I was in High School.

Sierra JC is one of the best junior college football programs in the state of California, definitely in the top five in a state with 100 plus programs. Trust me when I say this, if the kid started at Sierra he is the real deal.

Also, Sierra is coached by Jeff Tisdal who used to be the head coach at the University of Nevada for four years. During his time there he won two Big West conference championships and one bowl game.

Real deal!!! Saw this kid play at Colfax HS and a Sierra. A strong, intelligent, Drew Brees-like passer!! Ran a pass-oriented version of UNR Pistol, "high-octane" offense at Colfax. Had big wins at Sierra vs. San Francisco, Fresno, San Mateo, Sacramento, Sequoias and others. A California All-State HS QB while at CHS. Nice addition to UWW offense, hope he does well.

There's only one way to find out if a man is honest...ask him. If he says 'yes,' you know he is a crook.
