Final, in Double OT -

UWEC wins 52-45 in a shootout vs. Hope...

Blugolds, on 4th and 14 in double OT, score on a TD pass to David Goodman! The 'Golds defense finally gets a stop on the day, on a 4th and one, to gold wrap it up... Blugolds stuff the runner, who comes up short on a measurement, to stall Hope's final drive...

Blugolds had stuffed Hope in the first series of OT, then missed a game winning FG...

Prior to OT, Blugolds' running back Cory Sartorelli scored a go-ahead TD (his sixth in the game, tying a school record) with 3:43 left in the game to put the Golds up. Hope then used the rest of the time to march down the field to tie it on a 4th and goal from the 4, scoring with 22 seconds left to send it to OT.

I see that UWW managed to avoid losing this weekend.  Your team can't hide from non-conference opponents forever, you know.  If you manage to make the playoffs, you'll have to play someone from outside the WIAC.

Yea, they took on the upset-minded "open date," a team that gives most teams fits.  In recap, the Warhawks offense executed to perfection, a well conceived game plan. An opportunistic, smothering defense held the visitors under all season averages to keep the 'hawks at 2-0 for the season.  When final scores of other games of interest started rolling in during the 4th quarter...well let's just say, there were only smiles all around...and leave it at that  ;).  UPS comes to the Perk next saturday for more of the same  ;D.

UW-L also dispensed of "open date" with no problems.  Any word, other than the score, on Missouri S&T and Stevens Point?  Word... as in, are they an average DII team?

That's good to hear WSUFan about La Crosse, they remain at 2-0, also  ;).

The Pointers held on at the end (once again  ;) )  The Miners had a 1st and goal from the UWSP 8.  Two incomplete passes and a 4 yard loss with the clock running ended the game.  S & T wasn't able to run another play, 21-17 UWSP.  Another close finish for the Pointers. After giving up 94 points in their first 2 games (both losses), I'm sure the Miners were happy to only give up 21, but I gotta believe they were looking for a win against a lower division team.  "Average DII team" might be a reach.  You'll see them next week at La Crosse, so let us know!!

Are you watching Oxy/Linfield?  I'm glad more and more schools are doing these webcasts.  The game is pretty competitive, but IMO, at this point in the young season, neither team looks very impressive.  Oxy's done nothing to excite me.  Take a look.

Thanks for the link. The webcast is pretty good, even in full screen mode. I've always enjoyed Linfield and their fans.

Absolutely.  Got to experience both in person in 05.  They are the best!

Oh, and congrats to the Hawks on a great win.  Glad to have that one behind us!  :) :D ;D

In the lastest D3 Football.com Top 25, the WIAC continues to have a presence.  UWW with an open date remains at #2 with 2 First Place votes.  However, they drop in total points 602 last week to 601 this week.  Appears a single voter is behaving like Robin Hood (taking from the Warhawks and giving it to MHB).  UWSP, on the brink of defeat at then 0-2 DII MO S & T, but hanging on to win 21-17 allows the Poiners to hike 1 spot in this weeks poll to #16 - now with 229 points - up from 198 the previous week.  La Crosse is the big winner on the day, despite also having an open date, jump 5 spots in the poll to #19 this week, with a net increase in points of 71.  Apparently, the voters liked the quality of La Crosse's open date opponent and they were rewarded generously.  Rumors around the Coulee region have Coach Terry attempting to reschedule MO S & T (Sat's opponent) for later in the season or next season in favor of another open date this week.  Stay tuned for more imformation on that.  Eau Claire rounds out the WIAC participation in the poll.  The Blugolds, with a double OT win at Hope, now total 10 in the others receiving votes, up from 6 the previous week.

I wasn't at the pointers game Saturday but I dont see how you can say that Central is declining when they just beat a UWSP team with 17 of 22 returning starters who beat UWW last year. Central had a down year last year but by no means are they declining. I don't think it was luck that beat us in 05 against UWW, from being on the field they were definitely the better team...although we fared considerably better than other opponents. Your also talking about a "declining" Central program that handed SJU its worst loss in more than a decade just two years ago.

This is a little late but I'm just catching up on the board...

You know, there's a lot to be said about conference opponents in terms of competition (just ask USC after their loss to Washington yesterday and their conference losses in the previous three seasons).  Conference rivalries are similar to sibling rivalries.  The teams know each other so well.  Now, sometimes it doesn't matter if you know what they'll do... you may not have the personnel to stop it.  And the prime time programs like UWW continue to get the top talent because of their continuing tradition.  But in a situation like Point last year, they just had this swagger... they had the ability to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and squeaked by one conference opponent after another (the RF loss excluded, of course).  To have them bow out of the playoffs so soon was unfortunate... but it shows how they were able to hold down UWW while others were not.

I didn't see the game last week either... didn't listen to it, just read the recap (and watched the video of the end).  UWSP seemed to dominate most facets of the game... except for red zone efficiency (1 for 2 as opposed to 3 for 3).  But you can't look past the fact that this was UWSP's first game and it was Central's second.  Even for the best teams in the country, there are kinks that need to be worked out... and perhaps that's just what UWSP needed.  Remember, Point didn't squeak out back-to-back-to-back one point victories after the River Falls loss (though they did squeak by Azusa by one right before it).

And even so, you can't judge one team by another (i.e. Point and WW) and you can't judge one team with another (i.e. last year and this year for Point).  Yes, there are a lot of starters back... but we don't know everything happening inside the locker room.

And again, it's still really early... though the early loss could make it very difficult for Point to reach the playoffs again.

It was good to see the teams from our conference handled Open Date so easily. The Blugolds have 'em this weekend.

Exciting game in Tulip Country .... almost let it slip away. "D" is obviously still a concern. Sartorelli was incredible ... actually had 7 touchdowns, but one got called back on a holding penalty. The winning pass in double-OT was a goal-line wrestling match that David Goodman (Soph-Neenah) won to seal the deal.
