Nice to see former UWW reserve and Dubuque transfer RB Justin Spaulding making an appearance on the D3 Team of the Week.
Spaulding had 253 all-purpose yards in a loss to Central, rushing 30 times for 157 yards and a touchdown and catching three passes for 96 yards and another score. To think he couldn't get on the field for the Warhawks.  Kinda puts UWW's depth strength in perspective when you see something like this.  Makes me wonder how many others, trapped behind talent, that might see his early success in new surroundings and opt to do a similar thing in the future.  They probably won't be part of a national championship caliber team - but to each his own.  Congrats to Spaulding.  Interestingly, he wasn't even Offensive POW in the IIAC, that went to a CC RB.

But think of it this way: if the rest of DIII were so lucky as to pick up UWW's scrap and refuse, then we might have more than a one game season.  Heck, DIII football might even be worth playing for the 260 odd teams that will never make the trip to Salem.  Ever.  Until the Earth is consumed by the sun as it turns into a red giant in about 4 billion years.

Your scorn and predictabilty regarding anything UWW is uncanny - and now you have the gall to associate it with the end of our world...have you no decency?   ;)  ;D

Stanley waived by the Rams just a couple hours after he had completed a phone interview with Daily Jefferson County Union sports editor Jeff Seisser. Stanley was excited about playing his home state Packers this week in St. Louis.  Stanley's first NFL game was against the Packers in December, 2007 - the same day the Warhawks were capturing the 2007 Division III Championship.

Stanley had success in kick return duties finished fourth in the NFC and 10th in the NFL with a 25.5-yard kickoff return average as a rookie in 2007 despite limited playing time.

Last year, in week 12 vs. Chicago, Derek returned six kickoffs for a 32.5-yard average...recorded a 75-yard kickoff return, the longest of career.

Stanley's "career day" was in his rookie season vs. Pittsburgh when he returned a season-high eight kickoffs for 229 yards (28.6-yard avg.) had two returns of over 40 yards including then career-long 49-yard return that helped setup a WR Isaac Bruce touchdown reception.

Damn! Damn! Damn!! Fingers crossed for Derek.  A stellar player and individual.

Look on the bright side, do the Packers need a good return man? He might still play in Packerland.

Also look at the bright side if you are a Packers fan you have a Mount guy running your defense! ;)

Further bright side stuff if you are a WW guy you have a Mount guy running your offense! ;D

Further, further  bright side stuff you may have to face the Raiders in the playoffs.......oh thats not a bright side. :o

Sorry, As Emily Latella might say.......Nevermind!
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Maybe the fact that the former Warhawk was not utilized actually points to a deficiency in the UWW coaching staff in not being able to recognize talent. Oooh Noooo! That couldn't be true since we all know that everything Warhawk is flawless.

We have two running backs, a freshman and a sophomore, who rush for over a thousand yards apiece, and our staff can't recognize talent.  ROTFLMAO

Here's a clue for you.  It wasn't the inability to recognize talent.  We knew Spaulding was a talented running back when we recruited him.  We do make mistakes but we don't recruit players who aren't talented.  The problem is that we had two running backs who had more talent.  Spaulding saw the field last year and performed adequately but he isn't Coppage or Anderson.  Had he stayed he would have gotten an opportunity eventually but he didn't want to wait.  I can't blame him for that but chalking it up to our staff's deficiency in recognizing talent is absurd.

Check his stats against Platteville.  14 carries for a 42, net 32, yards and one carry accounted for 11 of those yards.

I wish Justin Spaulding and Stan Zweifel all the success possible.  Spaulding has the ability to be a very good running back and I firmly believe Zweifel, though it will take time, will be successfull in Dubuque.

Hummm, let's see...

Stanley finishes his Warhawk career No. 1 in career receiving and touchdowns.  Led the nation in kick returns one year averaging 37 yards per return and 2 TDs.

Your right, the coaches screwed up not realizing Stanley's talent.

Retangent, either you are just spoofing us farmers over here in Wisconsin, or your incredibly naive, or maybe you are just a total knothead. ??? :)

[That loss may have been a driving force as he moved on with his life......I think that loss was as tough as they come

So you figure three losses mean nothing to our guys?  Yet to a man they shook hands and congratulated the winners.  Adversity defines character.

Tough break for Derek but those of us who wear WARHAWK PURPLE are proud of what he accomplished.

I think you just scored the daily double, voice!!  WTG  ;)

BTW, I think retagent happens to be one of 'us farmers over in Wisconsin', right sir?

However, voice, I think our farmer J friend was referring to Spauling and not Stanley.  badgerwarhawk did a good job of bringing retagent back to reality, sort of like a vitual head slap...well done bw.

???   ::)

He's not our Mount guy, he's your Mount guy - and in case you haven't noticed (you obviously watch too much of the horseshoe guys  ;) ) speaking as a Packer fan, there seems to be more fluff than substance to the guy - 31 to the bengals at Lambeau?  If I were a 'raider guy,' I'd be trying to jump the good ship Dom Capers at first opportunity...disown the guy...retract that statement before it's too late!!

Fixed it for ya.   ;)  Derek will be fine no matter what happens.  He, too, thought finishing his degree was important and returned to UWW after his rookie season to complete it.

Yeah, it's not like the guy transferred from Duquense and stepped in thinking he was going to rule Division III.

Voice - I say this periodically, but some forget, and others maybe don't believe. I am a proud resident of the cheese state, but have much fun tweaking those who get too full of themselves, and enjoy being tweaked in return. My tongue is almost always planted in my cheek, but that doesn't mean I don't speak some truth. And, by the way, I'd like to think it was the first of your choices. I have great respect for the WIAC in general, and UWW in particular, but even you have to realize that sometimes it gets a little too much for we Johnnies to bear, and we have to bring out the needle. ;D
