Just finished catching up on 10 pages while I was gone...interesting stuff.

voice, happy 58th birthday!!  I hope many more to follow...
...and I heard through my sources that you made a call out to me during the Point broadcast ~ makes me blush  :-[ ~ thanks for that & +k!

A few random thoughts on UWW/UWO :

The consistency shown on both sides of the ball for UWW this year has been uncanny...

Warhawks defense continues to impress - the scores alone would indicate that, but the offensive output by Oshkosh was as much to do with the UWW defense as it was with what I would call the conservative play calling for the Titans frosh signal caller. Four 1st half possessions for Oshkosh, 4 punts, 21 plays, 65 yards.  Third quarter ~ 2 possessions, 2 punts 8 plays 20 yards.  It wasn't until about the 11 minute mark of the 4th that they exceeded 100 yards in total offense. By then, many Warhawk second teamers were in the game. Remember, Oshkosh beat Huntingdon 31-13 and in last weeks south regional rankings Huntingdon is #4. That says something.

This might sound like a broken record, but Warhawks offense continues to impress.  ;)  Donovan only missed on only 4 of 33 passes. And the 1 int was in/out of the receivers hands. He's really performed well in his senior season.  The TD pass to Novak was a thing of beauty - it looked even better on the replay. Wells and Leaf really stepped up a notch in the absence of #3 and #1. What more can be said about Coppage and his O-line that hasn't already been said? With the injury at the end of the season last year, he really didn't get a chance to show-off on the national stage; hopefully this year will be different. If I were Nate Kmic, I would be preparing to give up a few of my national records in the next couple years. Coppage isn't on a roll, he's on a bagel!! He's that good ;)  :D

Kick coverage and returns made huge strides this week.  Roach can be a dangerous returner, but he was contained.  Samplawski should be reprimanded for trying to run up the score ~ how dare him to try to run a kickoff back with a 33-7 lead with 3:00 left.  He should've call a fair catch at the 14!!  ;)  ;D  Schebler is closing in on the all-time, all divisions kick scoring record; if Rosholt has to punt, the 2 he had today will work just fine.

This might sum up the Titans trouble on defense - Martin and Breeze, their 2 safeties 10 tackles each, LB Taraboi, 13 tackles but he never really gets a square hit on anybody and most his tackles seem to be 7 - 10 yards down field.  He did get Blanchard on the 11 yard TFL, but that was more the result of Blanchard missing the snap. The d-line had .5, 2. 0. 2.5 tackles and none for loss. They're not going to win a lot doing that.  Offensively, the freshman QB Wara played like a freshman.  He might develop into a nice QB in time, but I think I counted only 3 or 4 passes in 3.25 quarters that went down the field - everything was a screen to a wide out, QB draw or a hand off to the single back off tackle. Strange play calling. And the no huddle, kind of a waste when you use up most of the play clock standing around deciding what to run.  As Barber said, the one hurry-up play the Warhawks ran was certainly much more effective than any Oshkosh ran. That habit of the entire offense looking over at the coach to change the play is one of the dumbest tactics I've seem in the last couple of years.  I remember UMHB doing the same thing with their QB. Call a play and go with it or let the QB call an audible.

coco, joke all you want, but it's hard to ignore the fact that they've shown remarkable consistency in their scoring this year from both sides of the ball:

UWW 38 DSU 3
UWW 58 MLU 0
UWW 42 UPS 7
UWW 35 UWP 3
UWW 38 UWEC 14
UWW 38 UWS 3
UWW 38 UWRF 14
UWW 41 UWSP 12
UWW 40 UWO 7
UWW ?? UWL ??

I'm interested in your analysis of the WU/UPS game??? ( the scoreboard says 50-6 WU, is that right? UPS 6 first downs, 26 yards passing)...a stunning turn of events in only 7 days. Is this the same UPS that Linfield's defense struggled stopping last weekend? What did I just read from the NWC board, the best 0-8 team in the country, according to some Linfield posters? Any explanation?

What has happened to UWLAX the past few (3) years?  In my memory, they used to be the feared team from the WIAC.  Do they have a chance against UWW this week?

EDIT:  No slight to UWW in recent years, I was more thinking along the lines of the 1990s

Bobo, speaking of the Warhawks special teams, the freshman #55 Josh Williams has some special athletic talent. He has some good size and is usually the first one down the field on kickoffs. He flew across the field on one kickoff yesterday to make a solo tackle. He just put it into another gear. I usually just follow him down the field on kickoffs. Can't wait to see him on the field more at linebacker next year.

With the East Region's last 2 undefeated teams losing yesterday (Albright and Alfred), it looks almost guaranteed that Mount Union is heading east and and Whitewater going to the north again.

That should make Linfield and SJU happy.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Definitely looking forward to seeing the renovations that Lacrosse has done to their stadium. The comeback by UWW there two years ago is the most exciting football game I've attended (except maybe the Stagg Bowl of the same year).

I didn't expect the Oshkosh game to be all that difficult and it wasn't.  I thought they might be able to score a touchdown or two against us but their defense just isn't good enough to contain our offense unless we make multiple mistakes.   We didn't and they couldn't were it not for an pass that bounced off our defenders head and was caught by another receiver who scored easily.

The LaCrosse game, on the other hand, worries me.  I know they've had a rough year but you can't overlook the rivalry between the two programs.  LaCrosse isn't going anywhere in the post season but I know their seniors, for that matter probably all of their players, would like nothing more than messing with our season.  That would end their season on a high note.  They have talent on that team and you can't underestimate that motivation.  Plus being at home they'll be able to feed off of their crowd.  Our staff has done a good job of preparing the team and keeping them focused on the immediate task at hand.  That's going to be especially critical this weekend imo.

Good call, BG.  He caught my eye in September and I've looked for him since.   A real playmaker.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Another impressive win for Stout yesterday.  Plan to ask the "Horses mouth", Pat,  next week on our show, but does anyone think Stout has a snowball's chance in hell of getting a playoff game if they defeat Oshkosh next week.  My take on it is someone will get in with 2 losses, why not a team who plays in the WIAC?  Any thoughts?  Be kind.   We are a bit sensitive here in Menomonie.

Hey, Stoutguy, a great season for your Blue Devils.  I thought Stout would be a better team this year.  Even picked them to be the most improved in the poll on Voice's blog.  It's turned out to be the case.  Good luck against Oskhosh.  I don't know if you'll make the playoffs or not but I hope that you do.

Of course your coach is on the ranking committee so maybe he has some pull. ;)

Thanks, BW, for the kind words.  You know, I got some guff around here awhile back after watching you guys because I was too "over the top" regarding how much better your team is than anyone else in our league.
After seeing everyone this year (except Oshkosh), I stand behind my reaction.  The rest of the league needs to get better quickly or we will become  a league of "who finishes 2nd this year" every year.

Regarding Stout, I don't think a 3rd place finish is going to generate much playoff talk, but Duey Naatz has turned the corner in this league, does things the right way, and is a first class guy to be around.  He gives all the credit to his players and his assistants but this guy knows how to get it done and I see nothing but improvement coming from this camp.  One example of why he is a great interview: After our qb was injured yesterday, I asked him during the postgame what the chances were of getting Ross back for the Oshkosh game (dislocated hip).  His response: "Do I look like a doctor?  My dad was a vet, so if Ross were a horse or a cow, I could give an educated guess that he would be back soon."

UWW's Jeff Schebler sits at 419 career points - just 14 points shy of the NCAA All-Division kick scoring mark of 433 held by Art Carmody of Louisville (2004-2007).
