I would say the Stout coach should be a lock for WIAC coach of the year considering the shape the program was recently in.

Hey, Stout had a nice season, too.

Congrats to the Blue Devils on an 8-2 record...

They probably could beat at least 2/3 of the teams that will eventually make the playoffs.  That Point game really killed them.

Recap from the La Crosse Tribune.

"I think this is one of the better teams I've seen in 22 years since I've been here," Eagles coach Larry Terry said when evaluating the Warhawks following the game.

If things line up the d3 forecast way I would sure like to see a WEST - South semi too!
If things, "line up the D3 forecast,"  this won't happen, (and shouldn't!)  Pat and the Guru's have ranked the brackets as MUC/#1,  UWW#2, SJU/#3 and Wesley/#4.

That would mean that the bracket would line up so #1 plays #4 and #2 plays #3 in the semi's, wouldn't it?

Getting 2 computers and the bloody's ready for a great afternoon of football.  Hawks/Eagles game on one and my high school's state play-off game on the other!  GO WARHAWKS!!!!!    ;)

Go Warhawks indeed...one computer is good enough for me this afternoon.

Points if Interest:

Ranking     #1 Mount Union, 45.5 pts per game, 8.3 pts per game allowed

Ranking #2 UWWhitewater, 42.6 pts per game, 8.4 pts per game allowed

The difference is 3 pts per game, net. If Mount and UWW meet again in Salem, it will be a 3-4 pt win for either team.

In a post or two several weeks ago, I mentioned that I thought if they met
again, a 3-4 pt win for either team would be very likely. The numbers for
the regular season just bear out that possibility.

What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I don't know...since there are no common opponents or any honest factors that connect these numbers, the only thing it means to me is that both teams had a pretty easy time going through the regular season.  :-\

Coppage broke Justin Beaver's school career rushing TD record with his 45th in less than 2 complete seasons. The WIAC career TD record of 51 his well within the crosshairs. He also tied Beaver's WIAC record of 24 rushing TD's in a season. With up to 5 more games to play, he could really distance himself with everyone on the career lists.
Breaking this record in his sophmore year is insane especially with a possible 5 games left!  Justin did miss most of the 04 season with a hammie and 5 games in 06 with the broken collarbone but if Coppage stays healthy........................the numbers could be untouchable for decades!!!!!!

I agree BoBo, although I might interpret it not so much as, "easy," but more of dominating their opponents all season.  "Easy," implies an easy road and that never exists in the WIAC and with the exception of a few bottom feeders in the OAC, doesn't exist there either.  Both teams just flatout dominated all year!  But, the points allowed jump out at me more.  A meeting in Salem will be a case of both teams meeting the toughest defense that either has face all year.  DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! ;)

I agree that Defense wins Championships, and each team has not or probably will not see a top defense until they meet (if they meet).

A critical big defense play could likely determine the winner, since neither
team has or will likely commit turnovers.

413, nevertheless, in the last 5 seasons, 2009 is the only one where every game was a blowout for the Warhawks ~ hence my use of the word easy. I can't think of any anxious moments beyond the first possession of the 3rd quarter, and quite frankly few, if any prior to that, in any game this year. That can't be said for the previous 4 years!! Even MUC had a moments (early in the season) that caused a few red flags to go up around Alliance. Marietta is what it is, but Mount appears to be on top of their game at the right time. The Warhawks have been there all year.

Maybe you guys don't want to touch this subject yet, but I'm a little surprised that the possibility of Donavan playing at the next level hasn't been discussed yet. He has the physical size, and potential, maybe the only thing we don't know is how he performs while being pressured ;). Maybe Ken Anderson was the last D III QB to succeed, but, I'm throwing it out there.

Sometimes, after a big win like yesterday, I just have to look myself in the mirror and say, "what the hell were you worried about."  I really thought we were in for a tough time at LaCrosse.  All of the intangibles were there.  Instead it turned out to be realtively easy and I had no doubt we would prevail after the blocked punt safety.

The new stadium at LaCrosse is nice but it appeared to be more oriented toward track than football.

In gandering at some of the LAX website photos it looks as though a guy might have to really squint to see the field of play......

Good points, BoBo.  The guys mentioned yesterday on the broadcast that this team reminds them most of the 05 team and I would agree with that.  That seasons, we dominated our competition and while the scores don't reflect a blowout in every game, if memory serves, (cuz I am not doing the research to be sure,) our starters were on the bench by half time in most games and the opponents only scored against our 2nds and 3rds, the obvious exception being the Linfield and MUC game.  Both teams featured a great throwing QB.  The 05 team had a RB who ran for over 2,400 yds, a QB who threw for over 3,500 yds and 2 WR's who caught over 1, 200 yds  each.  Wth the likes of Justin Jacobs, Justin Beaver, Derek Stanley and Pete Schmidt on the offensive side, they were flashy.  That team dominated like this one. but couldn't get it done in Salem.  Let's hope this team, if/when they get there will write a different ending to the season than the 05 team did.

I don't know....If the 'Hawks do end up going to the north they may have to face Wittenburg, the top ranked defense DIII has to offer.
