Maybe you guys don't want to touch this subject yet, but I'm a little surprised that the possibility of Donavan playing at the next level hasn't been discussed yet. He has the physical size, and potential, maybe the only thing we don't know is how he performs while being pressured ;). Maybe Ken Anderson was the last D III QB to succeed, but, I'm throwing it out there.

He will have a LONG tough road ahead of him.  Other DIII QBs have had a cup of coffee in the NFL (Jim Ballard, Tom Arth, Elliott (from Linfield)) but none of them really were successful.  I thought Elliott would have the best chance since was a DI starter at Utah before transferring to Linfield, but even he found it tough.

The most successful (recent years) DIII QB in the professional leagues could arguably be Matt D'Orazio from Otterbein who won two AFL championships.

Points if Interest:

Ranking     #1 Mount Union, 45.5 pts per game, 8.3 pts per game allowed

Ranking #2 UWWhitewater, 42.6 pts per game, 8.4 pts per game allowed

The difference is 3 pts per game, net. If Mount and UWW meet again in Salem, it will be a 3-4 pt win for either team.

In a post or two several weeks ago, I mentioned that I thought if they met
again, a 3-4 pt win for either team would be very likely. The numbers for
the regular season just bear out that possibility.

I don't know...since there are no common opponents or any honest factors that connect these numbers, the only thing it means to me is that both teams had a pretty easy time going through the regular season.  :-\

I agree BoBo, although I might interpret it not so much as, "easy," but more of dominating their opponents all season.  "Easy," implies an easy road and that never exists in the WIAC and with the exception of a few bottom feeders in the OAC, doesn't exist there either.  Both teams just flatout dominated all year!  But, the points allowed jump out at me more.  A meeting in Salem will very likely be a case of both teams meeting the toughest defense that either has face all year.  DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!! ;)

I agree that Defense wins Championships, and each team has not or probably will not see a top defense until they meet (if they meet).

A critical big defense play could likely determine the winner, since neither
team has or will likely commit turnovers.

I don't know....If the 'Hawks do end up going to the north they may have to face Wittenburg, the top ranked defense DIII has to offer.

You've obviously never seen the NCAC play.  Other than Wabash, there isn't an opponent on Witt's schedule that could sniff a single win in the WIAC.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Only team in the North bracket with a chance of giving Whitewater a game is Illinois Wesleyan in Round 2.  Everyone else in this bracket will get absolutely DOMINATED at the line of scrimmage.  With the West containing SJU, Linfield, MHB and Central it looks like Whitewater's only serious challenge between them and Salem VA will be the semi-finals.

Coach,
How do you read Mount's Bracket? Do they have any challenges between here and Salem?

HScoach

Montclair St and Del Valley could pose a challenge as they come from good pedigrees.

For those interested, you're invited to participate in the OAC Playoff Pick-Em Contest.   Whether you joined us in the regular season or not, your welcome to join for the playoffs.

Spreads for Round 1 have been posted in the General Page.

They are on the road in the first round so they don't get their typical 3 byes.

Being to modest in my opinoin...pencil in MUC for the Stagg Bowl (even though that's not much of stretch  ;D ). Especially since MHB got moved to the West. What a bracket the West is by the way. ton of solid teams in there.

you're right about that...i was just going off statistics alone. they put up ridiculous numbers this year. but i wasn't sure on the strength of the teams they played though....I hope you right about Wittenberg though ;)

Are you totally discounting UMHB?

wrong side of the bracket...they will only face MUC in the Stagg Bowl.

You quoted me just seconds before I deleted the post! :-[  I realized I had had a brain fart and flashed back to Pat's predicted bracket (where UMHB would have been in Alliance 2nd round), rather than the actual bracket! ::)

Now my senior moment will live forever! :o

The playoff pickem contest is up and running on the WIAC pickem page.  If you're interested, pls go there and indicate your picks for round 1. Defending champ is KitchenSink.

BTW, has anyone seen our boy stealth? He's been cloaked for a very long time.

Hey guys ... looks like the Little Giants will play IWW on Saturday.  The field looks great from the pics.  Are the visitors stands as small as they look on the photo?  We travel pretty well, and we support our team and party well.  If you all are of a similar mind, we share and party generally (generally ... because we DO NOT party well with DePauw) well with others.  I know your conference is a good one and IWW is a very fine team.

Our only loss was to Wittenberg 10 to 7 on a game ending field goal with our QB sidelined with fractured ribs and a collapsed lung from the game prior.  It was a character builder for both teams.  Hope we show that character this Saturday (only with a few more points on our side).  In any event, looking forward to Saturday and hope everyone is healthy and a good game ensues.
