Just listening to the post game press conference...comment from the IWU coach:

"I told the guys the best team doesn't always win. It's the team that plays the best. Whitewater played the best today."

??? From that, I wonder if he thinks IWU is really the better team.  ::)

The IWU coach must be in total denial...

MasterJedi

Notes from the game:

1. Better turnout than I expected, couple hundred more than the first round IIRC.

2. Horrible pass interference call, it was a tipped ball.

3. Besides one play that IWU ran, where they threw the ball always to the right (and it worked, except for in the fourth quarter when it finally resulted in a pick) IWU's offense was rather bad. They didn't really try to come after us for hte most part, they tried a lot of passes at the line of scrimage which didn't result in much and just seemed to rely on trickeration.

All in all they held in there for awhile but without trying to come after us they fell behind, then got tired and were blown out.

C'mon BoBo, you're better than this (I think :-\).  What the hell else is a coach gonna say to a team who just got whipped - 'you guys really suck'?  ANY coach worthy of being addressed as 'coach' is going to say something similar to what Coach Eash said.

Congratulations to UWW (I just got back into town from my 90+ year-old parents, so just learned about the game result).  I honestly thought we could hold it closer (only in my wildest dreams did I dare imagine an actual upset), but it was not to be. :(

Glorious day at the Perk today. Great weather, excellent company, good food, and a monkeystomping. Wesleyan hung for a half and then folded as they wore down. Their offense seemed a little too safe to contend with the Warhawks. Congrats to Kara and Max(62) who got engaged today and spent the day at the Perk watching the Coppage express pound the rock with many of their friends, family, and former teammates. Next comes Wittenberg.....Pound the Rock......

Slow down Mr. Ypsi.  If I'm the coach and say that stuff to my players in the privacy of the locker room, that's one thing.  But, to repeat it in front of a bunch (small bunch probably) of reporters in the post game press conference that's being broadcast live, I think it's careless on his part. That's what I was criticizing him about, not the comment to his players - he can tell them anything he wants, for what it's worth. After getting madhandled by a bigger, stronger, and faster team, it was kind of a dumba$$ thing to say, IMHO. You may disagree. Had a D1 coach said something like that in a press conference after a game like this, you know it would've been heard around the world 3 times by now thanks to ESPN and on YouTube.  At least he knew he was only in front of a couple reporters who didn't grill him on it - I would've if I was in that room. I'd think even a Royal Purple reporter trying to make a name for himself would've said something in reply.  ;)

on the audio broadcast, prophet voice mentioned, I think in the 2nd quarter, that before the end of the game, Whitewater would pick off one of those throws - and he turned out to be right when Graham Hall got his pick...good call voice!!

Being at the game I obviously couldn't hear it but good call! For everyone at the game though that damn pass was really annoying and for some reason we couldn't defend it until the end.

BoBo, in your effort to generate controversy again, you misquoted Norm Eash.

http://www.pantagraph.com/sports/college/illinois-wesleyan/article_ac31fae2-dc87-11de-8b28-001cc4c03286.html

"The best team doesn't always win, but the team that plays the best does, and Whitewater was the better team," Eash said.

I listened to Eash make this same comment on the WJBC postgame show, and expand on it.  And what he said was basically (to paraphrase since I don't have it recorded), "Sometimes a team that is not as good as another can play better and win...we were hoping that would happen today, but it didn't.  Whitewater was better, and played better."

You are dangerous with quotes, man.

MasterJedi

Another thing to ponder: They announced being respectful a second time at the start of the second half because of bad sportsmanship. I'd like to know where that come from, the only thing I saw was the head coaches wanting to bite the refs heads off at two points and nothing else.  :P

You expect he'll contradict what he tells his team when talking to the press?  That his players will never hear about that? :o

I didn't hear the post-game comment, so don't know the context.  Perhaps he should have said nothing.  But if asked a question like (which I assume is the case) 'What did you say to your players after the game?', he gave essentially the same answer any decent coach would give.

I hear enough mockery of Coach Eash on the CCIW board from former opponents who think he is a pompous jerk and poor winner.  I don't know the guy, and have no idea whether they have a point or are themselves being poor losers.  But your particular shot at him seems totally misguided and somewhat off-the-wall.

I didn't hear what he said on the WJBC postgame show, I can't even get it. Were they broadcasting the press conference or their own interview with him? I only heard him on the official NCAA post game press conference.  What you paraphrased isn't what I heard him say there.  I don't want to strike up any controversy, but it's just what I heard.

How is it misguided and somewat off-the-wall if you've heard enough mockery of him on the CCIW board? I've read the last 2 pages of the CCIW board and nothing before that, ever, how would I know others consider him a jerk? My comments were pretty tame compared to what you're used to hearing. Misguided? Give me a break  ::)
