I would have to say that D III has a few more than "2 levels" bp. Are you putting Crown, Lakeland Northwestern et. al in with Linfield, St John's Wittenberg, UMHB  and many others? I guess when you're at the stratospheric level that UWW is, you may not be able to see all those tiers so far below. You know, the one UWW was at only six short years ago.

Retagent,

I am not at all saying D3 has only 2 levels. The point of the blog wasn't to dissect the various levels of D3 Football (good thought for a blog during the offseason, though  ;) )

I actually brought "levels" into the discussion simply by asking a question:

"Does it (the close game with Wittenberg) dent the popular notion that Division 3 Football has two levels: the top level being UWW and Mount Union, the next level being everyone else?"

First, please note that I describe that thought (two levels), as a "popular notion", not my opinion. Secondly, I'd point out that the context of that description was framed under a question related to complaints from UWW/MUC opponents from time to time regarding the STAGG BOWL. The framing question was this:

"Does the close game with Wittenberg put to rest the "inevitability" of a UWW/Mount Union Stagg Bowl?"

I have read a number of posts from backers of various schools lamenting the "inevitability" of another UWW/Mount Union Stagg Bowl.  My overall point in that part of the discussion was made in the following sentence:

"I believe that what this game showed is that UWW must bring their best game to the table to win their next two games."

I attempted to give Wittenberg credit for a game well played. I clearly landed on the side that nothing is inevitable regarding UWW in the Stagg Bowl, although I do think they remain a favorite to get there.

Seems like your trying to find arrogance where there is none, Retagent.   ;)

For those of you who want to read the blog for yourself:

So here you go Newbies...what the fuss is all about. When the 'Hawks took that big step forward at our expense.
http://www.catdomealumni.com/topten/thegame.html

After the final WW score I reached out to shake the hand of this WW fan that I'd quipped with earlier and the whippersnapper shook his head NO! replied something like, "Oh no, not with that quarterback you've got. No, no, no no."
That Gagliardi trophy winner had just thrown three incompletions, fumbled, and had two passes tipped - one for the game winner. And your guy still had faith in him with seconds left on the clock. So did I, I suppose.
Great tribute video by WC11.  That gives everyone a taste of the game.  Now imagine being in the stands!   11 lead changes and incredible defensive and offensive plays on both sides.  I was with that guy, D.O.C.  When we scored, what turned out to be the go ahead and winning TD with 42 seconds left, I barely exhaled. That was still too much time to give to Elliot and Co. but the Hawks managed to hold them off one final time for the win!  A spectacular game to witness!

DISCLAIMER:  But, of course, this is the 2009 season!   ;)

45-17 is my final score as I see a lot of rushing on a very frigid day with piles of snow around the stadium.

Excellent WildCat, thank you.

I can still recall the wild emotional reaction of the crowd at Saxes Lone Star when we scored the winning touchdown and I remember wondering if we could hold on for the final 45 seconds.  I didn't stop pacing until the final play.

Truely one of if not the greatest game in WARHAWK football history.

Gig Harbor Cat

All of this talk of warm weather kids coming back to Wi and compete just doesnt compute with this Cat backer.
If memory serves me correct you guys took in a So Cal kid right of of the beach to lead you to a title ??

Works for me.

Our Cats will do just fine, whatever the weather is it is, they will bring it--Count on that.  The only factor that will determine the outcome is who brings their A game.

I know what horse I am backing

Ya, while I love the karma of putting that score out there in the universe, I am thinking 45 is way too much in this game but I am hoping for a Hawks win by 2 TD's. Unless they fold like UMHB the first time they played in the Perk or Wesley, TWICE, I see this being a dog fight for much of the game.  I agree with the Cat fans that the weather, unless maybe a blizzard, will have a minimal effect on the game.  They are from Oregon, for goodness sakes.  They live year round with cool, damp and dreary!   ;D

Thanks Wildcat.....great game highlight tape.....Still remember the end of the game when some of our players went over to shake Elliot's hand because he was such a great player and he just knelt there kind of in shock and exhausted......Great game and a superb time in Oregon.....Pound th Rock!!!!......

Sakman 1111

Watched much of Mount Union's last game on some non descript cable station.......the team they were playing was to put it nicely not that good....could their bracket be any easier? Now a big test against Wesley---gimme a break......Hard to tell how good they are from watching 3 quarters of that beating.....

Do winos hang out in Brewery Hill Park?

Can you stand around during the game at Perkins Stadium?

badgerwarhawk

Yes you can stand around on the visitor's side at Perkins Stadium but you won't be as close to the field as it looks like you can get in Linfield.  You can also stand on the home side but you would be standing on the very ends of the field.

Truely one of if not the greatest game in WARHAWK football history.

1st...greatest game I ever played in, including the 04 stagg bowl.

2nd, most don't remember but we had completed a ball down to about the 20 or 25 with ~15 seconds left, but had it called back on an unneccesary penalty (he had help to bail him out). Lots of would'ves and should'ves of course, but with our stud of a kicker,  there was very nearly a whole another chapter to that game. I don't know how many people could have bared to watch it by that point though.

I remember listening to that game (before we had video feeds and back when our announcer could still see the field :) )  Crazy exciting game with a serious adrenaline hangover for several days after--I can only imagine what it was like to be one of the players involved...
Go Cats!

I get 20 questions, remember.

How come Warhawks and not The Prairie Tillers?

I hope the Warhawks practice inside in Madison on Thursday....10 degree high, -5 to -20 wind chill... :o
