Bill Simmons is on ESPN.com today winning over Wisconsin readers.

QuoteSaddest subplot: A Favre Super Bowl appearance with an original NFC Central team not named "Green Bay" would be the football equivalent of dropping an atom bomb on Wisconsin. Polarizing, depressing, anger-inducing, bitter. ... It's going to elicit every crummy emotion a sports fan could have. And if Favre hoists the Lombardi trophy, Packers fans are going to react like someone just bought them a treadmill: abject fear, horror and confusion.

A Super Bowl win would just be the icing on the cake. As a Packer fan, and one who has lived in Green Bay, I understand the passion fans in that city have for their team - and that is literal, since the shareholders are the fans. It's a unique situation, unlike any other in professional sports.

And methinks there are many people who are upset with the way Favre crapped on the city during the retired/not retired saga. Yes, it's a business decision that was made, and Favre has every right to continue his career. But it's been taken personally, and Favre's behavior only enhances the legacy of another pretty good QB in Green Bay... Bart Starr.

Sure, there are some who may still root for Favre, but not this one. And the majority of the unofficial polls and discussion I've seen, read and heard over the last two years is anti-Favre.

Favre has already told the media in Minnesota that he will remember the year he turned  40, which suggests he sees his legacy depends on winning the Super Bowl this year, and not on the 17 or however many years he was in GB.

Sure, if the hired gun does win it,  that will not sit well with the fans in Green Bay, who idolized and adored him during the ups and downs of the team, and supported him during some pretty troubling times he had personally during that time, too. But it won't be the end of the world = true Packer fans are supporting Aaron Rodgers, and realize the potential he has to win a Super Bowl, too, something Brett could only do once in Green Bay.

Who Dat gonna beat the Saints?

Footballscoop.com is reporting that UW-Whitewater Offensive Coordinator Jim Zabrowski is taking the wide receivers job at Northern Illinois. I am not sure how accurate it is however if it is correct thats a great step up in the college coaching word for coach Z. Two national titles in three years as OC. Question know is who is going to replace him as the offensive coordinator at UWW????

If this is true, then Jim Z would replace PJ Fleck who moved on to Rutgers to be the wide receivers coach.  Fleck played for the Huskies and also for San Francisco 49ers. Maybe down the road Fleck will return to NIU in a greater coaching role. Perhaps head coach one day.

Anyway, any help coach Z can give to the NIU offense will be greatly appreciated by this NIU & UWW alum.

Fleck was also a standout WR for local HS Kaneland.  Worked his A55 off to get where he has so far.  I would love to see Fleck return to NIU someday as a Head Coach.

What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

413,

How is AJ doing?

Thanks for asking, 68.  The boards turned back to football which is how it should be so I don't want to sidetrack it again.  But since you asked, he is doing well enough considering.  We spent all week at the hospital doing chemo and so far he is handling it better than we were told to expect.  Very tired and some nausea that comes and goes but has not missed a meal, just less of it and a more mild diet. Some tolerate chemo better than others so hoping this keeps up.  Surprisingly, I found emotional relief when he started the chemo on Monday.  I told him it was his friend, his best weapon and about damn time that we started playing offense! ;)

Dekalb Daily Chronicle is reporting that Zebrowski will be the quarterbacks coach:

The Daily Chronicle has confirmed that University of Wisconsin-Whitewater offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Jim Zebrowski has been hired to become the quarterbacks coach for Northern Illinois and Pat Poore will move to wide receivers coach, though the two will work closely together.

Should be a good opportunity for Z. Despite having a potent rushing attack, the NIU passing game has been lackluster for several years.

Great for coach Z! Hate to see him go, but i wish him the best of luck at NIU...good move for him.

Anyone have any insight on his replacement? in house promotion? Or bring in someone from a smaller school (like how they got Z in the first place)? My money is on an outside hire.

This will be Liepold's hire right, not the AD?

warhawkbabe

I believe it will be Liepolds hire as Zebrowski was his hire. It most likely will come from outside the program is my beat. As they have to post the job like they did when Zebrowsi got the job. If I recall correctly. They posted the job at the beginning of April 2007 and they officially hired Zebrowski in June of 2007.
Lets hope it's quicker so the new OC can install his offense during spring conditioning/practice

As a supporter of the program I'm disappointed to see Z leave.  He did an exceptionally good job working with Donovan and coaching in the program in general.  However as someone who considers him a friend I'm happy to see him join a D1 program.  He's a young guy with a family and a bright future.  This is a great opportunity for him.  I wish him the best of luck.

BW:
I do not thoink anyone is happy that coach Z is leaving.. However they are happy for where he is going  which is division one football.
Anyways did anyone see the colts game today. Garcone played awesome I know people don't like him because of his antics especially in the 2007 stagg bowl when the hawks DB's shut him down but in 06 he was by far the best player on the field in the stagg bowl. He proved he could play then and he is proving it again know and going to be a playmaker in the super bowl in two weeks. He is also proving that their are good players in d3 football. However we already knew that.
