02 Warhawk,

We all know why UWW wanted to schedule Mount Union in 2002, but I am somewhat surprized that Oskosh wanted to for 2010-1. With only a 45% winning ratio over the last 11 years and only 3 winning seasons in 11 years, Oshkosh is not close to be a contender in the WIAC. Mount has trouble finding teams to schedule for their one non-conference game, and maybe Oshkosh was one of the only candidates. Any thoughts?  :-\

I'll bite... :D  Why wouldn't UWO want to play a team the caliber of Mount if they had the opportunity? Now, UWO also plays Central (10-1 last year) and Lambuth University (12-1 NAIA) so it would appear the "to be the best you must be the best" mantra applies. I'm sure UWO will be ready when the whistle blows.

BTW, how did UWW fair against Mount in 02?...they lost 44-21. Now I would imagine that opportunity still helped spring the UWW football program forward...

FYI...also in 2002 UWW lost to UWO...I was on the team when we beat them ;D

Impressive...I guess we can call that the bizarro SJU out of conference schedule.  ;)

The NCAA says my PROPER Stagg Bowl DVD is on its way.

Maybe I should have a Pick 'em to see if you think it'll be right this time.

I just sent an e-mail back to the NCAA today asking for an ETA on that DVD. I haven't received or heard anything since the original e-mail i received on 2/2 stating they "will send the corrected one out ASAP."

Anyone receive their replacement yet?

According to the tracking number they gave me, it should be in my mail today ...so hopefully it's waiting for me now.
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

Playing Mt Union had pretty much NOTHING to do with springing UWW forward.  Hired quality coaches and did a great job recruiting that is what changed UWW.  That is a fact.

Playing in games you have little to no chance in winning is just dumb.  It wont help the program at all.  Take for instance if you play games that you have a higher chance in winning you could have a better record and come in second in the WIAC.  This would allow you to go to the playoffs.  After you make the playoffs its anyones game.  That might help the program.  Starting off 1-2 will not help your program.

Don't know why a 20 point plus loss would turn a program around???

Go back and read the stories.  Brez thought that if UWW were to ever reach the top of the Mountain (pun intended) that they needed to see MUC first hand to know what they had to do.  He said something to the effect that by playing MUC in the regular season, it helped UWW to make it to the Stagg and eventually win it.

A 20 point loss, yes, but a respectable showing, none the less, considering that MUC was the top program in the country.  Not like it was a 42-7 blowout.  Demonstrated that the Warhawk's were closer than some may have thought at the time and gave some confidence to keep pushing, I suspect.  Gotta believe it to achieve it.  But, I agree with Goo that, while that game and attitude may have helped get the ball rolling, it was the combination of improvements to their facilities, great coaching and the recruitment of some very talented boys who had great chemistry that all came together to lift the program up to the next level.  Kuddo's to UW-O and and UW-RF for scheduling tough pre-season opponents, although this isn't new for RF who have played the Johnnies the last few years.  Traditionally, not WIAC championship and play-off contenders, (yet anyway,) neither program has much to lose from a pre-season loss and a lot to gain in terms of experience and confidence it they can have reasonably respectable showings.  It is the depth of this conference and the strength of our mid/lower tier teams that give us our, "toughest conference in D3," tag, after all.  I, for one, am excited to see what the Titans can do against the Raiders.  Remember that before UW-W became such a dominate force in the WIAC the last 5 years, our parity was legendary.
