Ask St. Xavier if they think Whitewater is a glorified intramural program.......

Or Azusa Pacific which I believe was ranked #14th in the country when we played them in 06 and won 27-7. In trying to compare the quality of players between D-3 and NAIA, I have a fun example.  There is a great play from that game that made the highlight reel when #33 had to come from the opposite side of the field on a screen play to run down their RB from behind about 50 yards down field preventing him taking it to the house.  Not bad for a " glorified competitive club/intramural college football ," linebacker.   ;) ;D

Nah, my momma always taught me, "never have a battle of wits with an unarmed man."  Besides, I doubt those boys would be nearly as appreciative or respectful as you gentlemen are.   :)  :-*

Is there any truth to the rumor that Iowa State is in discussions to join the WIAC?   ;)

Assassin14

NAIA is inferior in all aspects to the WIAC and most elite D3's!  Go back and check out WIAC's vs. NAIA's over the last 5 or so years and you will see.  I can only think of one beatdown since 2005 coming at the expense of a WIAC team.  National Association of Ineligible Athletes....

Assassin14

Since 2005 WIAC schools are 23-6 against NAIA opponents.  Enough said!

bulk19

I guess all of the WSUC players who played NAIA ball over the years were inferior to D3 athletes, too, eh?

The NAIA of the 1980's and the 1990's is not the NAIA of today.  The same goes for D-III.

Part of the undercurrents in D-III (which we documented and discussed on the Future of D-III message board in the 2006-09 time frame.

Jason Dannelly wrote about the future of the NAIA in the link at Post #1517.

Here is the pdf of NAIA Football Champions.  Look at the schools that are now D1-FCS, D-II and D-III.

Of the football champions and runners-up from 1980-1999 (76 potential teams), I count only Northwestern Iowa, Baker KS, Peru State NE, Georgetown KY, Montana Tech, Azusa Pacific, Olivet Nazarene and University of Sioux Falls (8 teams) as still being in the NAIA.

Derek Stanley made a big splash in his first CFL (exhibition) game with the Toronto Argonauts. The former St. Louis Rams wide receiver and kick returns specialist led all recievers in today's 13-10 victory over Hamilton in the exhibition opener.  Stanley, a slotback, finished with five catches for 78 yards including a 44 yard catch and run with just over a minute left in the fourth quarter that set up the Argo's game-winning field goal with 53 seconds left in the game.  Stanley also opened the game has Toronto's punt returner, returning three for just six yards.,

Another former WIAC player is also attempting to make Toronto's regular season roster.  Former UW-La Crosse Jeremy Unertl signed as a free agent with the Argos during the offseason.  The former All-WIAC defensive back  Unertl had two tryouts with the Green Bsy Packers, on with the Baltimore Ravens, among several stops in professional football including the former Arena Football League.  Unertl plays free safety for the Argonaut defense.

QB for the Tiger-Cats, Jason Boltus of Hartwick, also saw some time in the game before leaving with an ankle injury.

The WSUC teams of the 70's and 80's were totally different than the NAIA teams of today.  Those WSUC teams competed with and defeated many of the current D2 teams such as Mankato State, Winona State, and other Minnesota D2's.  So no Bulk19, all of those players were not inferior.  I also never stated that individual players were inferior, just the association as a whole.

Kira & Jaxon's Dad

I visited a couple of NAIA schools back in the late 80's when deciding on a school.  The big "knock" then was that the NAIA had NO drug testing policy and that Steroids were rampant.   After a quick Google search that still appears to be true (the no drug testing policy):

NAIA Leaves Drug Testing up to Member Schools
