i'm 29 and balding. My wife thought it was funny when she pointed out some gray hairs on me the other day.

I blame the lack of hair and gray hairs on being a life-long Cubs fan.  :-\

I know this is very much off topic but great game by the US soccer team!

My boss just gave my his SportingNews - College Football 2010 edition. towards the back, there's a four-page preview of DIII football.

They pick UWW as the preseason #1, with mount, linfield, st. john's and wesley rounding off the top 5. UW-Stout is at 21.

There's a picture of Coppage running the ball on the first page of the DIII section....kinda nice seeing that!

From what I've read elsewhere, USAToday has it Mount #1, UWW #2 - someone  name Pat Coleman writing the article.  :-\ Haven't actually seen the article, though.

So, tell me bulk19, since I don't follow this contest, is this above/equal to/below normal?

This has little, if anything, to do with football. But as I was reading THIS article about former Wisconsin runner Chris Solinsky from Stevens Point, something hit me. It was talking about his body type is atypical for a distance runner. Well is says this:

Quote
Solinsky, meanwhile, is 6-foot-1, 165 pounds, with the definition and muscle mass of a wrestler or a Division III safety.

Maybe the size of a Division III kicker or punter, but aren't most D3 safeties in the WIAC a bit larger than that?

Height is about right, but I would guess the average DIII safety weighs a lot more than that.

Is there any WIAC team to challenge UWW this fall, who is it and how could it happen? :-\

In the 2008-2009 Directors Cup standings the WIAC placed four teams in the top 15.  Stevens Point (7th), LaCrosse (11th), Eau Claire (12th) and WW (15th)

Raider, this might all sound cliché, but here is my take. The WIAC is characterized by difficult games week in, week out - no gimmes here. Don't come to play and your likely to end up on the wrong end of the score. There's a thin margin that seperates these teams. They are all pretty good...the non-conference records usually confirms that and I suppose this year will be no different. Hopefully Oshkosh will play you guys tough and you will see what I mean. Warhawks have been mostly fortunate the last five years. Injuries were at a minimum and when key personnel were out, someone usually stepped up to carry the load - depth has it's advantages - something you know very well about. The Warhawks will take things like they always do -- one game at a time -- an added incentive is that another conference championship would equal 6 consecutive, placing them in a tie with La Crosse for the longest such streak in conference history -- but to get there, they will take it one at a time.  In many conferences, the top team(s) can stumble a bit and still get by rather easily --  not  here.

I imagine if Solinsky trained to play football instead of running 10Ks his body type would easily support another 30 pounds of muscle. That would make him a good sized D-III defensive back.

Bobo,

Great insight! Thanks +k :)

I believe the Warhawks have an extremely talented team for 2010.....The offense is loaded and the only ? is QB .......But there are some very talented QB hopefuls waiting in the wings. Defense there are some ??? but again there are some top notch back-ups and recruits ready to step in.....One game at a time is the way while pounding the rock. They won't miss a beat with Dink running the offense......Oline, receivers, and running backs should be terrific if they can stay away from key injuries they will be strong favorites to take the WIAC again.....Pound the Rock!.....

KitchenSink

Don't forget that 3 of 4 starters at DB graduated, plus Diebert (who started a lot of games too).

As long as the Warhawks put together a secondary, and get good QB play (another Donovan would be nice ...  :) ), they'll be fine.  I'm thinking Josh Williams will be a BEAST at LB after making good contribution as a freshman.

Oh, and a kicker ....
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!
