BoBo,

Here is a hypothetical: Let's say that UWW wins all their games and goes to the Stagg this year and once again they meet Mount Union.

Who does former All-American OL Derek Blanchard root for, his brother Matt the QB of UWW or his alma mater Mount Union? It may not happen, but it could again like the last 5 years! :)

Interesting questions R 68.  First of all, with 5 years consecutive of UWW and Mount meeting in the Stagg, that hypothetical is becoming much less a hypothetical each year the number increases.  ;)

IMO, he should root for his little brother. After all, the kid is of the same blood and he's been his brother for 20 some odd years. He only went to MU for 4 years and been an alum for a couple more. Gotta get behind your kid brother over anything. The fact that I have 3 sisters (none of which was very athletic), I'm glad I never had this kind of "problem!!"

I figured (with his talent) big bro blanchard would of stuck around and become some sort of grad assistant under Kearns...I take it that didn't happen? B/c if he is an assistant coach...it's probably not in his best interest to pull for his brother if they play UWW again.

Derek Blanchard

Couldn't find anything on Google for the upcoming season.

Easy call.  Derek will be rooting for his little bro and I will be tailgating and taking Warhawk shots with his folks in the parking lot, just like last season.  ;)   A terrific family all the way around and we are lucky to have them in the fold!

BTW, a little trivia.  A.J. and Derek played against each other 5 times.  Jr. and Sr. year of high school and 05-07 in Salem.

Voice posted this about a new coach at UWW:

The UW-Whitewater football program has a new assistant coach.

Warhawkfootball.com has learned that Josh Gehring will be the new quarterback's and wide receiver's coach and pass game coordinator for the Warhawks.

Gehring arrives in Whitewater after serving as Lambuth College's (Tenn) offensive coordinator and quarterback's coach this past spring.

Gehring has been an assistant coach for 11 years, with the last three at Morningside College (NAIA) in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Mustangs were the fourth highest scoring team in the nation in 2009 when they averaged 45.1 points per game and was named the American Football Coaches Association's 2009 NAIA Assistant Coach of the Year. The Morningside offense led the nation in 2008 at 48 points per game while breadking 32 school records. Prior to coaching at Morningside, Gehring was the defensive coordinator at Concordia University (Illinois).

Prior to coaching at Morningside, Gehring was the defensive coordinator at Concordia University (Nebraska). He has also served as an assistant at Missouri State, Western Kentucky, Manchester College, Ottawa University and Rock Bridge High School in Missouri. He is a native of Mounds, OK, and a 1999 graduate of Ottawa University. He received a master's degree in sports administration from Ball State."

Seems like Gehring was a new coach for Lambuth for spring practice but now is at Whitewater. Interesting.

He who hesitates is lost. Acting decisively will help keep them on top!!

That being said, he is coming from the NAIA side of the house -- take that for what it's worth. I find it interesting that he was a defensive coordinator before becoming an offensive coordinator. You don't see that too often.

Who copied who?

Still a Lot.  I grew up in IL and we had a Fr, Soph and Varsity team and had 2 Fr. Coaches, 2 Soph Coaches and maybe 5 Varsity.  The Fr. Coaches had to scout on Fridays and the Soph coaches helped out the Varsity on Friday nights.
