Bobo:  I definitely dread the day LK retires.  Regardless of how good the next guy is, and I'm sure he'll be the best available, it's impossible for him to have the record that LK does.  We're not talking about replacing a long tenured, really good coach.  We're talking about who replaces the winningest coach in college football history.  Any Mount fan than says it doesn't worry him is either lying or doesn't really care all that much about the program.

I don't think the team will instantly suck after he retires, but I believe it will begin to slide back to either being a really, really good program that has a shot at a title on their best years like a SJU or Linfield, or will slide even more to become an Augie.  But I'm not optimistic enough to think we'll replace him with an equal or greater talent.  The odds aren't in our favor.

I tend to agree. But, in the near future, the biggest hurdle for Mount Union will be the rise of D2 schools in Ohio-they are popping up everyday.
UW-W deals with the opposite scenario.  With no D-2 in Wisconsin and only UW-M for the top talent, the players that want to stay close to home turn to the WIAC schools with the Warhawk's being more able to skim off the top with their recent success.   But with such a long history of success, I would hope that even after LK's departure, the Raiders can still make a great case to players to chose their winning program over a D-2 middle tier program.

While there are no D2 football schools in Wisconsin there are several in Minnesota and they are taking quite a bit more talent out of the state than five years ago.  With reciprosity between the two states and their ability to award scholarships, albeit generally paritial ones, they are pulling more talent that historically would have ended up in the WIAC each year.  Wisconsin has become very fertile grounds for these programs.   Though I would certainly agree that it would be even tougher if more D2 programs existed within the state.

Thankfully, a few of the better ones have transferred to Whitewater over the years

It always makes me sad to see a school which doesn't report scores to us then go with ICS instead of PrestoSports for their website. If they use Presto then it doesn't matter if they report scores or not -- both sites are updated at once. But with ICS I still need to try to win that school over to reporting scores.

Plenty of ICS schools do report their scores also to us, though, thankfully.

I take it most WIAC schools use ICS? (UWRF, UWW, etc...)

Either that or they are still independent (Superior, Oshkosh) and run their sites on campus.

BW.....Another factor in getting quality players is that more Illinois players it seems are coming to Whitewater.....I don't know if that is true throughout the conference......but starting 5 or 6 years ago the number of Illinois recruits certainly increased......

The transfer rate year in and year out in tremendous me being a transfer from a D-2 minnesota school at one point proves it along with the other guys that are currently on the team.  i know a couple all-americans transferred in probably for different reasons than mine, but we still all came from minnesota D-2 programs from wisconsin being the home state......if i'm not mistaken doesn't Mount kind of have the same thing running for them in Ohio? transfers for whatever the reasons may be from D-1 and other D-2 programs from the around the country?

Most recently Mount competes not only with a large number of D3 schools in Ohio, but now there are new D-2 schools that are in the competitive mix. The 2009 roster had players from 17 states, mainly Ohio, Pa and Florida. For 2020, California is now represented with a few new freshman coming.

No wonder mount has been so good for so long...they've been recruiting eight-year-old kids!!!  ;)

I agree with you there Sak.  The number of Illinois students on the UW-WHITEWATER athletic team rosters is significant.  Not just football but across the board.  Not having reciposity with Illinois it amazes me how many of their students do come to our campus, athletes and nonathletes.

you can put me down in the "nonathletes" category for IL residents that went to UWW. Unless you call drinking and ordering pizzas at 2:00 am an athletic sport?

I think it's a club sport.
