Rumor central: Look for Alexander Webb, Indiana University RS Sophomore cornerback 6' 183 lbs. from Mequon, Wisconsin (Homestead H.S.) to be transferring to Whitewater -- any day now. He was a two-time scout team player of the week last year for the Hoosiers.

Booker looks ready to play.  He ran well in the scrimmage and showed both bursts of speed and power.  On one particular run he carried two or three defenders for several yards before they were able to bring him to the turf.  Oddly he didn't look as big as I remembered him being and he's shiftier than I remembered.  In summary he's looking pretty good for someone who hasn't played competitive football for several years.

Wbabe, the difference is six years and not two national championships.  They have nothing to do with it.  He's had his problems in the past but he's learned his lesson from them and is a much different person than he was then.  He's been in school for a year now and has made steady progress towards his degree.

Bleed purple - thanks for info!  Perhaps others will join in as the season gets into full swing.  Does anyone know anything about EC getting a qb transfer from a higher division?

fan - there are many other threads on this board that you can go to for other topics. If you want to start another thread, I'm sure that if it had enough interest, it would thrive.

IT seemed WIAC would be the logical place to start a thread about a WIAC team.  I don't seem to be able to do that, so I assumed I could not start a thread anywhere.  But I see I can in other topic areas.  Thx for the tip.

Enjoying a little vaca so haven't been available the last few days but a really interesting discussion about the lack of fans and talk regarding any program other than UWW.  I found these boards back in 05 when the Hawks made their first run and remember the feeling of excitement about my team and being berated on several other conference boards because my team lacked the history to expect success at the next level.   There was a lot more posters then on the WIAC pages from other teams.  As our success has increased those fans have dropped off, unfortunately, and I agree that it would be great to have them come back.  I think that we have a great group of regular UWW posters right now like bobo, bleedpurple, 02, badgerwarhawk, barber greene, voice, 93 (new poster) and myself who, for the most part, keep the chest pounding to a bare minimum. Granted, we do have a good product to talk about but we also know that we play in the toughest conference in the country and a lot can happen in a season.  My point is, these guys would treat a newcomer/oldcomer from another WIAC team with respect and self police anyone who doesn't, IMHO.  Glad Just Bill and 19 still show up from time to time.

So whose running the pick em's this year?  Got to start doing my research when I get home because opening weekend is fast approaching.    ;D  + karma to all in celebration!

By the way, Blue Devil Bob is a great poster for Stout but he always spends all his time with the MIAC guys, unfortunately!

(I see you lurking, BDB!)   ;) :D ;D

I'm still here. Just haven't had much to say except to answer a question about the new coach here at Stout a few pages ago.

I don't begrudge WW posters for dominating. Anyone can join in and there will be all school posters piping in once the season begins and there are games to talk about.

But to reply to a comment on the WW place kicker position, well I have nothing to offer.  ;)

Well, I bet if I asked you about hockey, I would get and ear full!   ;)  The buzz seems to be that the Blue Devils will be strong again this year.  Did you guys lose many starters from last season?

Damn, ya I kinda wondered about that.   ;) I can do it if need be but I really like to post my picks at the end of the week, not to see what others do but to wait to do some research and read the game previews on each schools web site that don't come out until Thursday or Friday some times.   Seems like posting late in the week might be viewed as a little bogus for the administrator.

The Devils will be a little young on the defense line, having lost Marcus Ball for one. Good news is Marcus will be coaching (GA) the d-line this year.

We should be able to run the ball effectively. I think the squad is solid. We did lose a very good place kicker (here I go) in Kyle Martin, "K-Mart" for those with a good vibe with him.  ;) He too will be coaching (GA) this year.

Plus, how would it look if the administrator wins the whole thing...you are the odds-on favorite every year, don't you know?

Maybe someone will come forward in the next week -- the call has been put out!!  ;)

Well................that is a legitmate point, BoBo, but now I have given away all my secrets!  LOL  ;D

Maybe Nate will show up again, he usually does just before the season begins.

Always tough to be beat in their house.
Sounds like they will make their presence known.  Ball was a beast.  Personally, I am always glad when we play the Devils at the Perk.  Always tough to be beat in their house.
OK, I got to get to work pulling docks and shutting the trailer down for the year then back to real life. At least end of summer means start of football season.

Seems timely for Preview Capsule #3: UW-Stout:

UW-Stout (5-2 WIAC, 8-2 Overall)
Clayt Birmingham takes over as the UW-S head coach after three years as the defensive coordinator at the school. Birmingham's defense ranked 2nd in the WIAC a year ago in both total defense and scoring defense. The Blue Devils will have to find replacements in the defensive line for two stalwarts, DE Marcus Ball (First Team All WIAC, 9 1/2 sacks), and 2nd Team All WIAC selection Greg Towner. The UW-S defense does return their top two tacklers from a year ago, linebackers Ryan Pearcy and Trevor Fiege. However, the secondary will have to adjust to losing three seniors that anchored the unit in 09.
Offensively, RB Craig Warminski (1057 yds, 9 TD) returns after being 3rd in WIAC rushing totals a year ago.

The Blue Devils had the 2nd leading rushing attack in the WIAC and ran the ball over 66% of the time last year. Sr. RB Carlos Concepcion showed enough last year that he may be more involved in the offense in 2010. QB Ross Carey returns to guide the Blue Devils running oriented, low risk offense which ranked last in WIAC passing yardage at 130 per game, but also yielded only 5 interceptions all year. Carey's leading receiver, tight end Patrick Mengelkoch also returns.

It will be interesting to see if Offensive Coordinator Sean Hoolihan opens up the offense a bit with Carey now entering his junior year. Last year's defense gave up merely 16.1 ppg. This year, the offense may need to hit a higher gear, especially early in the season as the defense develops. UW-Stout was one of the most physical teams in the WIAC last year. With Birmingham taking over the reigns of the program, that isn't likely to change in 2010.
