WIAC Cost Reduction Plan Remains in Effect

http://www.wiacsports.com/press/CostReductionPlan090910.html

So, if I'm reading this correctly (and recalling from what we discussed earlier), WIAC football teams can only schedule one away game outside the region. then all other away games have to be "in region."

Now, I'm guessing the WIAC is going to run into problems scheduling non-conference teams in region, so they will have to resort to scheduling other WIAC programs as nonconference opponents to fill out their schedule...correct?

That's the gist of it, 02.  However I don't think the term "region" in the WIAC sense is the same as it is used by the NCAA.  I think there will be some sort of mileage restriction in the WIAC "region."

This is crap imo.  It will be interesting to see what will happen if a WIAC program is unable to schedule a full slate of games in "region" including the additional game against another conference program and the one outside trip they can make.

Also I am aware of the identity of the WIAC program the WARHAWKS were assigned but I am sworn to secrecey.  So all I'll say is nobody did us any favors.

Wow, it appears that they are standing on the field itself in the picture on the left.  That Jason Kenyon guy must know the right people. :D

I agree, that sucks.

Why dont we get the MIAC, WIAC, IIAC into some sort of regional battle/rivalry whatever you wanna call it. Have a weekend when one conference plays the other. Keeps you from having to schedule conference foes as non-conference games and all. Plus it could develop some good rivalries.

Your're assuming those other two conferences actually care of the WIAC scheduling woes...they don't...so, as the saying goes -- not in our lifetime!!  ;)

JB, I'll let stoutguy respond to this, it's a way better story. He's on the road but will be back to do the MHS broadcast Friday night.

Yes, BW, they are on the field...

True story, though they should care. Anything that hurts D3 football hurts the other conferences, particularly in region conferences. The IIAC and MIAC play a few WIAC opponents now, I think it would be more in the reaching out of the WIAC to the other conferences and proposing this than vice versa. (due to the financial implications the WIAC as a publicly funded conference is facing)

I have to say, sometimes it isn't always the case that other conferences don't care. The NCAC and the UAA have a similar kind of setup. For the most part CWRU, U. Chicago, Wash U., and CMU are associate members of the NCAC. It might not be a terrible idea to try to set something up like a cross schedule of some kind.

What? No Oshkosh??!!  :'(   Say it ain't so bleed!!  ;)   :o

With many the top schools playing in the WIAC this week, with a lot of luck and/or friendly bounces, there's a chance for a lot of movement in next weeks poll, I bet!!

Stout and Stevens Point ranked  ???  Yes, your bias is shining through!!  ;)

Hell, Point, Stout, and UWO all lost games last week. Point to a #9 ranked Willamette (according to bleeps 'prediction'), Oshkosh to a #10 Central College and Stout to an unranked whoever they were...I don't see why he couldn't have thrown a bone to UWO   ;)

...but, they are just random rankings after all  8-)

I realize that Polls are just opinions, hopefully, informed opinions, and I know it's part science, part art, and part something else, and really don't mean that much in the big picture, but I do have a question.

Based on history, I'm surprised that you have teams, Wesley, as one large example, ranked as high as you do. Even when Wesley has had a great season, and been highly regarded, they have looked quite weak against UWW. On the other hand, Even when SJU played a crap game against UWW, they have fared better, scorewise. I know that that's "ancient history," but it might be worth throwing in the mix when you look at the current situation.

Blogger Gene, on the UST site, says UWRF will not be a "pushover" for the Tommies. He also reminds his readers that UST has not won a game with the Falcons since 1922. Of course, very few have been scheduled, the last series concluding in the mid-90's with four straight losses to the Falcons.

But that was then. Encouraging is the fact that the Falcon qb, at one point within the last 6 mos. considered to be lost to the team, is eligible. Falcon fortunes without him were questionable. The  ONU coach was impressed with UWRF, saying they were well coached and had a good game plan. He also thought that any win over a WIAC team was something to be proud of.

Coach O thought the first half of the ONU game was the best football he's seen from his team in a long time, but that inconsistency in the second half did his team in.

UWRF will have to play two good halves Saturday to make the game competitive.
