A disappointing loss for the Eagles yesterday, blowing a 19 point lead to the #6 team in the country. The team has some talent, but has been unable to close the deal two weeks in a row. I was also disappointed in the turnout after a very good crowd showed up for the opener. Congats to UMHB on a fine comeback win. Also, congrats to the BLUGOLDS for a signature win over a perennial power..

Brian, could you clarify something for me?

Late in the fourth quarter LaCrosse had the ball with 4th and 9 on UMHB's 13 yard line down 21-19.  The fourth down play was a 12 yard loss.  Was that a blotched field goal attempt by the Eagles?

How about BleedPurple's prognostication of a 70 to 7 score in the Hawk vs. Dakota State game???  BP picked a 70-0 score which blew my prediction right out of the water!!!  I am not worthy, I am not worthy, I am not worthy!!!!!!

Yes, as noted earlier. I saw the play from the endzone, but wasn't sure exactly what happened, other than the holder got smeared for a lost. Then posted to confirm from the Crusader's recap that the snap was bad...

Gutsy-for-the-win-at-home call by the Blugolds in OT, after giving up the SJU FG to make the score 20-17...

'Golds face fourth and 1 from the 6, give it to Joel Sweeney, who picks up four for the first, and first and goal at the two. Next play, he takes it in for the winner...

Whitewater's top 3 RB's are certainly going to give many a migraine to D Coordinators throughout this year -- but the freshman Michael Pirtle from Bradley Tech in Milwaukee has got some serious giddy up to his stride. That kid showed some startling skills for a #4 back.

Bobo - I would agree about Pirtle. I coached him last year at Tech...kid is a stud. I was suprised to see him listed at only 169lbs on the UWW roster though...he weighed in at 181 for us last season...makes me think he wasn't in the weight room at all this offseason.

I expect him to have a VERY bright future at UWW.

I will say...I did my best to try to convince Pirtle to check out Oshkosh...but clearly my sales skills are lacking  :D

Seeing Pirtle run like he did yesterday it seems the future of the UWW RB corps will be bright. With Stanley and Anderson gone after this season WW seems to have a good backup for Coppage's last season. Not taking into account getting anyone else in.

I have to agree that I really liked what I saw from Pirtle yesterday.  One thing that's been consistent for as long as I have followed WARHAWK football teams is that we always seem to have very productive running backs.  Barring the unforeseen Pirtle looked like he has a chance to continue the tradition.  However I don't think that we've ever had the depth of talent at the running back position that we have this year with Coopage, Anderson and Stanley.  Of course you have to give credit to the offensive line as well.  POUND THE ROCK

Not being at the game, it's impossible to know whether the WIAC officials were fair or not. Last week, in a non competitive game, it would not be all that strange for a team, with a clear talent advantage, to go without a penalty. A game as close as the SJU- UWEC game, on the other hand, where both teams were getting pressure on the QB's, tackling RB's in the backfield, etc,  it is a bit less likely that would happen. Again, not being there, we're just speculating, but drop your WIAC bias, and at least grant that it bears some questioning.

BTW, I wanted to ask what people thought of this yeterday, but forgot...now I remember...

...what's up with WW's failed on-side kick following the first TD? Highly unusual in the situation. Can't be just practice, since the Warhawks haven't really been in a position to need to use one. Just thought it was kind of odd timing (but maybe that's when it usually works, too :-\ ). Recovering it was just about the only thing Dakota State did right, all day.

Thank you for your failed effort, nevertheless!!  ;)  Looks like he really fits in with the Warhawk style of RB's.

BW: Yes, it was a botched FG attempt. The La Crosse Tribune says it was caused by a bad snap.

Congrats to Eae Claire on the win which vaults them to #20 in the rankings. The next three weeks will be important for them. If they can come out of them with a sweep, or at least win 2 of three I think they can finish in second place in the division though I still think Plattville will earn that honor.

My early season predictions (based on nothing but my hunches)  :P:

1. UWW
2. UWP
3. UWEC
4. UWS
5. UWSP
6. UWO
7. UWLC
8. UWRF

Yea, that was a bit surprising...I'm guessing that was something they just wanted to try out (outside practice) with a rookie kicker, but as you said...it didn't turn out well. I don't think it went 10 yards anyways.

Speaking of kickers, i think we no longer have a kicking controversy. Kindler look solid on extra points (as solid as one could look i guess). He also tallied two touchbacks on kickoffs, while he consistantly put the ball inside the 10 -- with good hangtime too. In Guelff's three kickoffs he was getting some good distance too, but they were all line drives, not giving the coverage team time to get down field. Kindler really looks like he has a strong leg.

After reviewing the box score, I wonder when the last time (in NCAA history) that three RBs from the same team rushed for over 100 yards in one game?

Stanley: 159 yards
Anderson: 114
Coppage: 108

(Pirtle was only a few carries away from the century mark with 68 yards)
