My early season predictions (based on nothing but my hunches)  :P:

1. UWW
2. UWP
3. UWEC
4. UWS
5. UWSP
6. UWO
7. UWLC
8. UWRF

Some bold predictions you have there...That would be a huge year for Platteville if they can finish second. that would really shake up the WIAC...

As part of the WIAC cost-cutting program, it looks like UWL and UWW will play each other twice in 2011.

02 Warhawk,

I don't think we know much yet about the field goal kicking abilities of either kicker. Kindler did make a short field goal in the first game but that is the only one that has been attempted. I'm surprised they didn't let Guelff kick some of the extra points after half time. You never know when Kindler might get injured.

After reviewing the box score, I wonder when the last time (in NCAA history) that three RBs from the same team rushed for over 100 yards in one game?

Stanley: 159 yards
Anderson: 114
Coppage: 108

(Pirtle was only a few carries away from the century mark with 68 yards)

There are probably some triple-option teams that have achieved this but I do think it's relatively rare. I'll see if I can find out.

How about BleedPurple's prognostication of a 70 to 7 score in the Hawk vs. Dakota State game???  BP picked a 70-0 score which blew my prediction right out of the water!!!  I am not worthy, I am not worthy, I am not worthy!!!!!!

As I mentioned yesterday on here, bleedpurple is our new and improved Paul the Octopus from World Cup prognostication fame!!  ;)

Thanks for the accolades guys. I'll enjoy them while I can.  I have to admit, no opponent on the Hawks' schedule has me scratching my head quite like Campbellsville....

In the WIAC, River Falls holds the WIAC single game record for most yards rushing: 642--River Falls vs. Superior, 1989

Some others:
605--RF vs. UW-Platteville, 11-4-00
569--WW vs. UW-La Crosse, 1987
551--LC vs. Upper Iowa, 1976
546--RF vs. UW-Oshkosh, 10-21-00
516--RF vs. UW-Platteville, 10-18-03
506--RF vs. Pacific Lutheran (WA), 9-24-05

It's possible, 3 or more backs could've had 100 yards each in any one of these games. There are 5 more games with totals in the upper 400 yards too. I have to think it's been done, probably by River Falls. But I'm going to do some more digging to get to the bottom of it.

Maybe Nebraska has done it, too.

I was surprised that Guelff didn't attempt some extra points later in the game too.  However the next two games are on the road and we'll be limited to 60 (I think it is) players.  They aren't going to take two kickers so maybe they just wanted Kindler to get as many game time reps as possible.

It funny on things work out sometimes.  I would have bet hard earned money that Guelff would be the kicker this year.  He definitely has the strongest leg.  But after he got off to a shaky start Kindler came in and simply will not give up the job.  He's 12-12 on extra points and has made the only field goal he's attempted.  His kick offs even seemed longer than last week and on the season he's averaging a shade over 4 1/2 yards longer than Guelff.  How do you sit someone down who's done everything you've asked of them?

Kris Rosholt is another kicker who's really picked up his game.  Last year he averaged 38-39 yards per punt and so far this year he's averaging a full 10 yards further.  I know it's early and the weather has been favorable so the average will probably drop some once it gets cold but he seems to be kicking the ball better.

I think they should take 2 kickers considering what happened during the first game...they both are freshman afterall.

HERE's a story from 2001 of 4 Nebraska Cornhuskers topping 100 yards in a game against Baylor. It says it tied a record. Don't know if anyone has ever had 5 go over the century mark. At the time, it tied the NCAA record held by Arizona State in 1951; Texas in 1969; Alabama in 1973 and Army in 1984. I'm not sure if it's been tied since NU did it.

yea, i was wondering if they would let Guelff kick some as well...to shake the nurves off. I'm just saying, that from what we've seen, i like the way the ball comes off Kindler's foot much better than Guelff...thus far.

The NCAA record book does not list this as a category for Division III. I heard from Ithaca this afternoon that they have done this twice, vs. Fitchburg State in 1984 and St. Lawrence in 1998. I would have to think Springfield has probably done this a couple times, maybe Salisbury at its best, etc.

Were you talking JUST RB's, or rushers period? Because I wonder if Springfield has if it was the former, since the QB got a lot of carries.

Pat Coleman

I don't think I would make the distinction necessarily.

UMHB has done it twice, too, I've been told: last year vs. Sul Ross (Quincy Daniels-152, Bryson Tucker-117, LiDarral Bailey-107) and in 2004 against Howard Payne (Justin Bryson-165, Freddie Rollins-137, Anthony Carter-127).

The 2004 group, all three are running backs. Bailey is a QB.

I just checked Falcon records and found no games in which three backs ran for over a hundred yards, altho that particular stat is not kept. However, back in the wishbone days, RF's offense was mainly a qb/fb offense. Tops for one back in a single game was Adam Kowles with 382 yds. vs WW in 1994. He holds the all time career rushing record. He was a qb. I'm quite sure that RF never had three backs run for 100 plus in one game.
