Who would you say is the 2nd/3rd/4th ranked teams in the WIAC this year?  Not just looking at records for the first two games, but who has good talent?  Despite being O-2, is UW-Oshkosh the number 2 or 3 team this year?   Just curious...

tough call but i think, Point, Oshkosh then Stout...maybe. One can make an arguement for Platteville with their strong start.

Eau Claire definitely deserves to be in the conversation as well. Or are you two assuming they are #1 after their win over the vaunted Johnnies?  ;)

BTW, Oshkosh can't be #2 or 3 until they start winning something. Not winning gets you placed at the bottom of the ladder in my book, no matter who you play. This game is about wins and losses...no points for style and potential. Mount is Mount, but Central...? I'm not too sure.

I have to weigh in here...and all the "others" aren't going to particularly like this post.  The WIAC is now the carbon copy of the OAC.  There is WW....and then there is everyone else.  Not that "on any given Saturday" could the upset not happen, but NOT VERY LIKELY.

Now don't get me wrong...the bottom of the WIAC is better then the bottom of the OAC...but other than that.......eh!  The distance between 1 and umm.....2-5....is light years.  No one from WW wants to say it because you don't want to appear cocky, etc....but it's the fact.

The interesting side note to this is I truly believe that if Mount doesn't get better in a hurry...this is the year they come back to the pack.

I can respect that Bobo. The Titans are 0-2 so should be considered in the bottom half of the WIAC...for now. Those first two games against Mount and Central should provide valuable experience for this years team. Here's hoping that experience carries over to weeks 3,4, and 5 against River Falls, LAX and Stevens Point. I'm confident after those three games UWO can be 3-0 (3-2) and on the path to a top 2 finish in the conference.

Hopefully that prediction is more accurate than any of my weekly 'WIAC Pick 'ems'  :D

I actually like your post because it gives me an excuse to post something I wanted to post anyway!  ;D

In my opinion, the similarity between the the WIAC and OAC lies mostly with the recent dominance of both Mount Union and Whitewater.  I don't believe the gap between UWW and the other strong WIAC teams is as great as the gap between Mount and the OAC teams.  As 02 demonstrated, two national powers had more than their share of trouble with those "2-5" WIAC teams.

In addition, throwing out the Stagg Bowls, Mount had not given up 28 or more points in 57 consecutive games before last Saturday.  Then in one trip to Wisconsin, they give up 28 to a team that was 2-5 in the WIAC last year and ranked tied for 5th in scoring offense.  That does not look like a "carbon copy" to me...   ;)

Not having seen the teams up close, I can't really speak with the same authority as you guys, but just a glance at the results is interesting. Just taking a look point differentials tells a story:

2005: UWW + 25 MUC + 31
2006: UWW + 24 MUC + 36
2007: UWW + 19 MUC + 45
2008: UWW + 21 MUC + 37
2009: UWW + 32 MUC + 36

This is hardly scientific or definitive and doesn't single out just conference games, but it does seem to at least show that UWW's point differential has often been much closer than MUC's over the last five years, although this year could prove different.

On a somewhat unrelated note, I had the pleasure of interviewing coach Leipold for an article, and just though you UW-W should know that he's a polite, gracious, and classy guy. Kudos
