Matt's agility and speed have served him well.  He has moved away from pressure and has completed some nice passes on the move.   They actually have roled him out purposefully to use that agility to put pressure on the defense to make a decision.

Surprised I am the only one thus far to pick Missouri over Stevens Point for this weekend.  Wonder what everyone else knows taht I do not.....Hmmm

I don't know if there's anything we know you don't know. My reasoning in picking Point is:

#1 Point will be focused after opening loss, then a bye week.
#2 Point beat Missouri S&T last year on the road
#3 When MST traveled to Wisconsin last year, they lost to UW-LaCrosse 48-0.

Just curious, what is your reasoning in picking MST?

#1 was the big one for me.  The Pointers pissed off and at home is a tough combination!  Of course, knowing #2 doesn't hurt either.   ;)

TGIF - good day for a day off Warhawk Dad!!  ;)  Posting is easy when you're old and semi-retired!!

The line play, on both sides of the ball, is what makes the Warhawk so successful, IMO. And probably the main reason they have been able to complete with UMU over the last 5 years. I know HScoach mentions this many times in his analysis of the series. Has Blanchard been touched (not counting when he's run the ball) when he's been back to throw this year? I know he hasn't been sacked, but I don't remember him being pressured all that often. Has to make his transition to the starting job much easier. Sounds like the soup-ville guys have a bit more speed to contend with this weekend. Hopefully the 'hawks can continue the stellar play.

After watching Mount games for the last 20 years, if you want a chance to win the game, you have to win the line of scrimmage, or at least create a stalemate.  Doing so won't guarantee you win, but losing the LOS battle will guarantee you lose the game.   Every time.

That's why La Crosse was such a hurdle back in the 90's and Whitewater is now.  They are bigger, stronger and better along the O and D lines than Mount is.  Teams that can constantly do that are few and far between.

The first few national championship teams ('93, 96 and 97) won titles IN SPITE of their line play.  They're winning them now BECAUSE of their line play.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

thanks for not making a big deal over the fact that it took that long to get the new header up there. This was supposed to launch in july. When that didn't happen I did update the previous site but inside pages only.

Mount Union fans were far less patient than that last year.

Here is a couple quotes from Campbellsville head coach Perry Thomas on his weekly TV show that aired this evening.

This will be a very tough game for us, no doubt about it," the Campbellsville coach indicated on his weekly television show Friday evening.

They (Warhawks) are a very fundamentally sound team on both sides of the ball," Perry said. "Whitewater has great athletes at all the skill positions and have big, stong, athletic linemen on both sides of the ball."

The pregame talk has turned into a mutual admiration society.

"This will be the best team we've played so far," Warhawk head coach Lance Leipold said. "They are the most athletic team we've seen. They have the best size and speed.."

The one aspect of this game where there is no denying is that the NAIA squad will be the toughest test of the season for the Hawks just one week after it's 70-7 drubbing of Dakota State University.

Coach Thomas compares Whitewater favorably with Sioux Falls College (SD) and Carroll College (Montana), two NAIA football programs that perennially challenge for the NAIA National Championship.

I'm excited because it will be a great barometer to find out where we (Campbellsville) are at and where we need to get to when we get to the playoffs," Thomas said.

It is going to be a tough game for us but when we play like we are capable of playing we can beat anyone, including Whitewater.

My goal is re-join the HS coaching ranks once my kids are grown and out of the house (youngest is 11).  That's assuming I can find a head coach dumb enough to let me in the door.............

The reason I quit a decade ago was family time as I'm actually a civil engineer that was working some crazy office hours to be able to leave early enough to make practice after school.   Leaving home at 4 AM and not getting home until 7 PM every week night, getting home around 2 AM after the games on Friday night, and then spending Saturday mornings at the JV games got kind of old with the wife and once the kids started to get active.   It was a blast, but not real practical unless you're actually a teacher or single.

Until then the radio gig will have to fulfill my football addiction.  It's not as much fun as coaching, but it's hard to beat the very little time it takes takes outside of the actual game.  Actually it pretty easy to see why the ex-NFL and college coaches like doing the TV broadcasts and pre-game shows.  It keeps them connected to the game without a significant time commitment.  And you don't get fired for some 19 year kid taking a $500 hand-shake from a booster.

Deep respect HScoach, leaving the coaching ranks to raise your family.  Having that type of schedule sounds really difficult!  Good luck getting back into it.

Family priorities are important! Hats off for recognizing the importance before it's too late and you regret it.

I'd love to see how Mount and UWW stack up against USF and Carroll. Like DIII, NAIA can have a pretty sharp drop off between the have's and have not's. Those two programs have dominated the last decade in NAIA. USF also took down UND last year, and is one year away from making the switch to DII.

Personally, I don't think you can accurately compare DIII and NAIA until you've seen top 5 teams in each go toe to toe on a consistent/yearly basis. That said, I think DIII's depth takes it further than the NAIA's. does.

IOW, our drop off happens a lot further down the line. I'd take our top 50 over theirs, but with 238 teams (compared with around 90), our worst teams aren't a real helpful comparison.

What's interesting is that Mount and UWW have dominated on a level playing field. Can't speak for Carroll, but I know USF has an athletic budget about 5 times that of most of their conference foes. NAIA is notorious for lack of regulation and USF has taken serious advantage of that.

Case in point: they were supposed to have transitioned to DII this year, but it was delayed. So now they are playing one more year at the NAIA level, but have already increased their scholarship allotment to the DII level!?!

Best of luck to Whitewater today at Campbellsville.  Pay no attention to the fraternity on top of the hill beyond the endzone.  I always really despised that school because of the amount of trash talking they did (players, coaches and the aforementioned fans on the hill), then they asked you to pray with them after the game at midfield.  Being a QB, I also disliked the crown of the field.  It was great exaggerated... being that Campbellsville ran the option, it favored them and took me some time to get used to..

Here's hoping the crowd doesn't get to Whitewater like they did us...

Campbellsville's offense is good, a little worried about how our defense will hold up. No worries about the offense though.
