What about LaCrosse???

From reading their game stories, the Eagles have a problem that has plagued them in all 3 losses - finishing. Once again this week, they gave up a lead then had a chance to tie or go ahead in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter but failed to score.

Finishing....but why the problem?   If you have an 18 point lead (at least I think that was the number) you shouldn't self destruct that much.  18 point lead usually leads to self-confidence, not self destruction.  Well.....usually.  Looking at the roster they seem to have a good number of seniors which means experienced players.  although I couldn't find the 2-deep to see who was actually starting.  EC has only 5 senior starters and lots of new faces and they have dug in and pulled out two wins.   If LaCrosse has the talent....then why?  Then we may be getting to chemistry/coaching/whatever and perhaps discussion of that sort is not allowed???  But I do believe LaX coaching staff is highly regarded.

Was planning on heading out to Plattville on Thursday with my dad to catch the game. Then I realized it was on Thursday and not on Saturday so I'll be in class from 6:30-9:00. So then I was planning on bringing my laptop and watching the lives stats during class, but I also have a presentation during the second half of class. So nothing is working out.  >:(  :P

Whatever problems they have are obviously many - they're probably inter-related - and not one is the single cause of another poor start to a season. Since this kind of performance is becoming a pattern the last few years, I think you have to start with coaching and go from there. I seriously doubt, however, anybody outside La Crosse is crying a river over the Eagles troubles. Even so, I'm leaning on picking them over Oshkosh in the pickems for no other reason than they have to snap out of it sooner or later...Oshkosh might be the right Rx.

UWL was only up by10; that was its biggest lead, at 10-0, and was trailing 14-10 at half...

Then it was MST 21-10, 21-17, and then UWL went up 24-21 on the first play of the 4th quarter...

MST tied it at 24 with 8:30 left... and then a similar reoccurring problem happened for the Eagles, like in the MHB game - a bad snap.

UWL on the ensuing drive got to its own 42 but stalled, so had to punt. A bad snapped resulted in a shanked 4-yard punt, which gave MST the ball at UWL's 46 yard line, with 6:10 left to go... They then scored to take the lead, and the Eagles were unable to tie it up when their final drive stalled at the MST 23-yard line, with 38 seconds left...

So, the bad long snaps have cost the Eagles, although in a nutshell, yes, closing has been a problem, but from what I've seen and heard, they have yet to play a complete game, and have made some dumb mistakes...
The running game had been OK the first two games, and the passing game struggled; this time around, the passing game carried the load, while the running game struggled...

A big lapse in the secondary also cost them a TD when a player was basically wide open for their final TD (Chad Shockley, who had five catches for 199 yards and three TDs), and MST had a 36-yard fumble return for a TD... .

I'm not making excuses for UWL, just observations.

And like BoBo says, no one is crying a river for them.  ;)

I was just reading about that tragedy up at Stout...amazing what 15 seconds of stupidity will get you.

OOOOKKKKKK.......so why the comments about no one crying a river for them?  I kinda thought WIAC fans were all for one and one for all.....except when your team is playing, of course.  ;)  With everyone claiming bragging rights for the toughest conf in D3, I wouldn't think you would want anyone to stumble on a non-conf game.

Why, you ask?

* UWL spent the good part of 35 or so years dominating the conference standings

* UWL/UWW is arguably the most heated rivalry in WIAC football, mainly because they are the two most successful programs - there is no love lost between these two - think of Texas/Texas A.M. or Michigan/OSU -  they rejoice when the other gets kicked in the mouth

* non conference season is over...now it's time to start playing your brothers (you know how brothers play?) - of course everybody wants conference teams to win every nc game; there's stumbling (see Oshkosh), but when you shoot yourself in the foot the way UWL has, IMHO, I don't have a great deal of sympathy for the way they have lost; on the other hand, Oshkosh has improved their standing in my view for the way they have been competitive with superior teams in defeat

* one for all...all for one? you are new around here - that only works if you're guarding the castle in France; come playoff time, you root for the conference, whether it's UWW in football, or Point in basketball, when one team remains in contention for a national championship for example; during conference season, I'm looking for the easiest way for my team to win a championship; half the teams are going to win, the other half lose - nothing anybody can do to change that

* d3football.com has labeled the WIAC the toughest D3 conference - nobody goes out pounding their chest over this because d3football does it for us

;)

This might be the perfect week for fanofwiac to take a peak at the conference to our west to get a taste of some real sour relations. In comparison, we might as well say we sit around the campfire, sing songs, make s'mores and tell scary stories.

I just had a vision of UWPSUPERFAN - does that bring back any memories?

Fact of the week:

LaCrosse has not lost to 0shkosh since 1972.  Not sure if I am picking against history on this one.

You NEVER mention the fact that the WIAC has been labeled the toughest conference in DIII? I could have sworn that it comes up with great regularity. Maybe not as much as us telling you about Gagliardi being the winningest college coach in history, but possible a close second ;D

I see!  I did not know about the rivalry.  I was surprised...first time since I've been reading this board where anybody even hinted at not liking a particular team.  As I said...you always want YOUR team to win, of course, but this has been the most civil board I have ever been on and it took me by surprise.  Not to be critical...that was very mild...I certainly understand a rivalry!  Just didn't know it existed from your end, considering the team standings the last couple years.....

I would suspect if UWW ever had a down year, wouldn't be too many tears from other teams either.  ::)
