I knew the Hawks should be able to run the ball against the Pioneers given the size difference on the lines. The Hawks appeared to be much bigger.  Now Platteville did have success in the first half finding zones in the Hawk secondary. Plus the fact that the Hawk DBs seemed to have a problem turning around and finding the ball.

After going up 7-0 the Pioneer student section started the "overrated" chant. Hawk fans looked at one another and said, "little early for that".

Looking at the box, I am really surprised at Blanchard's numbers. Very nice game for him. David Leaf did not play.

Coppage had a nice game but appeared to be hurt for most of the game. He did a lot of stretching and got a lot of trainer attention on the sideline. Appeared to be a front quad issue, not a hamstring.

On the broadcast they mention that he spent some time on the sideline running on the stationary bike. It sounds like he'll be ok. It'll be nice for him to get a week and a half break till the stout game, as they'll face a tough defense next saturday.

special teams in general yesterday left me scratching my head....good thing it hasn't been an issue on the outcome so far. I think UWW is 1 of 7 on field goals so far this year (not including the unsuccessful fake FG last night).

By the end of the third quarter they were leaving in droves.

Coppage was making some incredible moves last night.  Time after time a Pioneer defender would be zeroing in on him near the line of scrimmage and he'd pivot, side step and/or shimmy and leave the guy grabbing nothing but air.  Booker just carries defenders on his back.  I'm not sure he was solo tackled at all.  He's just tough to bring down.

A key last night was the way the WARHAWKS controlled the Pioneer passing game especially the combination of Anderson and Blaser.  Anderson is a good quarterback and hurt us alittle early in the game.  But we were able to get through that and hold him below .500 in completions, sack him four times, force a fumble and get an interception.  Blaser was leading the league in receptions but caught just two passes underneath for 13 yards.  Platteville simply couldn't run the ball.  Their longest carry of the evening was three yards and they finished minus 12.

Their script followed the Wheaton game.  They played tough for most of the first half though by the middle of the second quarter we were starting to control play and then totally imploded in the third quarter.

I watched the Wheaton-PLatteville game and the word implosion is correct and same last night.  One other thing....not only did the Warhawks win the game, but one of our fans also won the 50/50 raffle.   :o ;D

Not only were Blanchards stats nice, but he made great decisions.  Threw on the run, exhibited excllent athleticism.  Really was the leader on the field.

I can vouch for this as this is the actual picture of the traffic jam of cars leaving Pioneer stadium:

Amazing how you can win by 30, out gain your opponent 637 yards to 172, including only giving up 43 offensive yards in the final 3 quarters, and control the ball on offense for over 40 minutes total, and say overall, improvement is needed. If this isn't being spoiled, I don't know what is!!  ;)  But, I agree with ya bp. I kind of expected the placekicking to struggle (getting used to that, unfortunately), but what happened to the punting? It had been so strong for the first 3 games. It's like they totally forgot how to play the game.   :o

Spoiled? No doubt.  ;D

But also trying to apply the standards of excellence the coaching staff has set for the team.

Hard to disagree with bleed's assessment.  Sitting in the stands, I felt the same way.  Hard to truly get into a rhythm when the penalties and the special teams mistakes.  Hopefully practices this next week will address this prior to Stout.

He leads the league in average though he's had to kick on short fields a few times the past couple of games and his average has dropped.

The penalties were a big issue last night.  We won't be able to get away with that often.  What was pretty impressive however was the team's ability to overcome them.   The second touchdown drive in the third quarter was 76 yards but actually covered 96 with the penalties added.  Another 80 yard drive was actually 90 yards and a 76 yard drive was actually 87 yards.  It's probably unreasonable to think we can do that on a regular basis but we did last night.

Regardless I suspect that penalties will be something the staff harps on quite a bit this week.

that's why they've gained so many yards offensively over the past 5+ seasons...they keep pushing themselves back b/c of penalties, creating longer drive opportunities (more yards to gain).... ;)
