Just curious, why was the game played on a Friday?

janesvilleflash

I am curious why it was played on Thursday, if it was played on Friday?
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

He leads the league in average though he's had to kick on short fields a few times the past couple of games and his average has dropped.

The penalties were a big issue last night.  We won't be able to get away with that often.  What was pretty impressive however was the team's ability to overcome them.   The second touchdown drive in the third quarter was 76 yards but actually covered 96 with the penalties added.  Another 80 yard drive was actually 90 yards and a 76 yard drive was actually 87 yards.  It's probably unreasonable to think we can do that on a regular basis but we did last night.

Regardless I suspect that penalties will be something the staff harps on quite a bit this week.

that's why they've gained so many yards offensively over the past 5+ seasons...they keep pushing themselves back b/c of penalties, creating longer drive opportunities (more yards to gain).... ;)

Just think how many yards they'd have if the field were 200 yards long instead of 100. The darn end zone keeps killing our drives!  :D

Ok, no more UW-W indulgence for awhile or I'll drive all the other WIAC fans away from the board. But couldn't resist...

Because Thursday is the night before Friday and Friday is the night before Saturday when most games are played.

This was the annual George Chryst Memorial Bowl game.... played in the memory of George Chryst who was UWP's head coach. Whether or not that's why it was on a Thursday, I'm not certain.

Both teams had a bye week last week - it was a special game - probably seemed like the thing to do. A few years ago, Boise used to live on Thursday night games - got them on ESPN all the time. Not saying it's why they are so highly ranked today, but it certainly did hurt getting them some exposure they never would have never had...why else would a big time recuit want to go to Boise, Idaho to play anything?  ;) It made their blue field famous, too. D3 isn't D1, but it might help to give the Chryst Bowl a step towards a little more notoriety, like some of the other rivalry games.

It's déjà vu all over again...isn't it about this time every year this discussion rears it's ugly head? I'm not one to preach conspiracy theories and I certainly don't believe the officials are out to screw anybody either. But, the officials have to get into their routine, too. UWW is always a highly penalized team, just like Mount is. Obviously, I think it's due to aggressiveness and speed these teams play at, which is a lot faster than any of their opponents. Penalties are a by-product of that speed and aggressiveness. Two weeks ago, no one was complaining about penalties when the Soup-ville guys were guilty of all those 15 yarders. To me, it has nothing to do with a lack of discipline or coaching. Penalty numbers will go down as the season progresses, they always do. The only part of the Warhawk game I'd be concerned with at this stage of the season would be the FG kicker.

Have any of you tried to bring up the WIAC site lately? I haven't been able to get it for several days. "We're sorry. The page you are looking for cannot be found." That's the message.

Depends on what address you're using. If you're using http://www.wiacsports.com/ then shouldn't be any problem. I don't know if the old addresses forward over, though.

It's working just fine for me fred. Try searching WIAC. Maybe you have an old URL in your favorites or something.

Bobo...you are getting scary good.  STOP!  Actually LK just did a interview where he talked about all the penalties, and basically he said it was a GOOd thing.  Can't remember the venue (I am old, and ADD), but it wasn't that long ago.  Bobo can find it....he can find ANYTHING!   ;D

Taking a break after an early morning of starting work today. Hoping to catch part of the LaCrosse/Oshkosh game tonight. Was thinking that I should review the "Paul the Octopus" UW-W prognosticating performance to date:

Paul
UWW 38
Adrian 0
(Actual: UWW 35  Adrian 0)

Paul
UWW 70
Dakota State 0
(Actual: UWW 70 DS 7)

Paul
UWW 34
Campbellsville 10
(Actual: UWW 37  Campbellsville 7)

Paul
UWW 45
UWP  14
(Actual UWW 49 UWP 17)

Self-indulgent? yeah, but why not while I can??  ;D
