Open letter to Whitewater and Eau Claire fans,

This Texan plans to be in your fair state for about ten days on vacation with Mrs. Roocru and then following up on some genealogical research for my Dad's side of the family.  Anyway, I am planning on trying to come watch UW play at UEC on Saturday, October 16.  Just wondering who might be there for the game and if there would be a tailgate party I could crash (politely of course)?  I have met a few UW fans at some UMHB games but would like to take this opportunity to meet some more fans and watch some more WIAC football.

Thanks in advance!!

Roocru-
Where in Wisconsin do your dad's side of the family come from?

Speaking of that, if you're going to be doing geneaological research at UWW's archives, I'm a student worker there so you'd see me on a Friday there depending on when you came.  :P

First you've got to work on those abbreviations.  That would be UWW at UWEC. ;)  UW is that big school in Madison.

...I was going to tell you to remember to check in your cowboy hat, boots, belt buckle and side-arm at the border so you look like a local; but after Bill's heartwarming welcome, maybe you want to keep your side-arm!!  ;)

And, oh, BTW, after last weeks performance in East Lansing, that big school in Madison is answering to a different name...it begins with 'O!'  :D   ;)

...and, FWIW, I found THIS ARTICLE today in one of the student newspapers of that big school in Madison. Although, the writer is directionally challenged (thinks Whitewater is 1 hour SW of Madison), his main idea (a little tongue-in-cheek, perhaps) is that UW should have scheduled UWW instead of Austin Peay for a beatdown. It would've been good for the state.

Sorry.  I only know where the EC fans hang out.

Has anyone thought of this idea for next year:

Let's play all four non-conference (conference) games at Camp Randall - All on the same day!!

This would be awesome showcase for the conference and a great reward for kids staying in state to play college football.

Does anyone on this board have the pull to get this done by next fall?

I am going to mention it to the new AD at UW-River Falls.

Let me know what you think?

I would be up for it. They have hosted all day multiple High School games before, so it wouldn't be a stretch for them.

We actually did have this discussion some months ago. I called the tailgate spot next to footballfan413.  8-)

I wouldn't do it at Camp Randall however. I'd rotate it around the WIAC stadiums over the years.

Could the WIAC stadiums handle a large crowd?  Most are pretty full for their home games.  If all schools played on the same day, there are going to be many fans (teams) sticking around for more games.  I like Madison...just because I like Madison and I think it would be fun for the fans and athletes alike....but I love the idea no matter where they are played.

Would need a stadium with Turf also.  Don't think a Grass field would hold up with four college games on one day.

Everybody has turf, don't they, except for River Falls. And fredfalcon says it's scheduled to be installed next year. I think sticking 8000 people in a stadium that holds 9 times more than that is weird. Too much like high school.

Stay on our own campuses, schedule 2 a day over 2 days then. Leave the big money schools on their own, and bring the money to the WIAC towns.

Haven't been up to WI so I wasn't sure about the field surfaces.  Looks like LAX still has grass also.

Manuel, La Crosse has the new turf since they rebuilt their stadium.

What a change a year makes...when I brought up the idea of playing all the games at Camp Randall about a year ago, most everyone said it was a stupid (not exactly that word) idea - but that's what it felt like. I seem to remember most not exactly thrilled about it. Some new ideas just take time to digest. I do remember BDB indicating his choice of tailgate location - but I thought that was in pay-back for his assistance in being part of the sponsorship of the endeavor (or maybe not  :-\ )!!  ;)

Thanks Raider 68 - and back at ya, too!!  ;)
