With the WIAC and CCIW so close in proximity, it still bothers me that they have not tried to schedule these non-conference games betweent the two conferences to save travel and money.   I hate the idea of playing another conference team twice in a year.   >:(

Oh, WIAC teams have tried, and tried and tried.  With the exception of Augie who has played UW-P many times and now NC who seems to have more confidence now in their ability to compete after recent success, most CCIW schools refuse to answer the phone.  The biggest reason I have heard is that they feel that the big bad public schools have too much of an advantage.  The Carthage coach is on record saying that.  Contests have occurred occasionally but usually only involve the lower tier WIAC teams.  Especially frustrating to UW-W which is only about 2 hours from several CCIW schools in the Chicago area.

Good news 413!  Now if he can just get that Cougar defense playing he'll be set. ;)

WHITEWATER had a scrimmage arrangement set up with Elmhurst.  However they wanted nothing to do with it after the first one.

I think the schools need those gate receipts, especially now.
Our High School's conference used to play their games there one all day Saturday session every couple of years. The UW then increased the cost, so they don't do it anymore. I believe when they did it, the schools got half the cost of the tickets sold.

That was with smaller schools, I would think with D3 college attendance, that it would be more cost effective. It could also generate revenue from ticket sales. I think you could double a "normal" ticket sale price and use it as a small revenue source.

The bigger problem would be that only two schools are relatively close. The rest would be a bit of a drive, but no different if you would go to the two close schools.

As far as wanting to play there, I would ask the players. I think you would be surprised to see they would like it. I am sure most, if not all, had a dream of playing at the D1 level and getting a game or two in a D1 stadium could be a big motivator. It could also be a good recruiting tool from other states.

I don't think this will ever happen...the WIAC is looking to reduce traveling costs, hence the non-conference WIAC games starting next season. Playing at Madison will only increase traveling costs, as each of the eight teams will be dropping $$$$ to travel to Madison. Compared to the current schedule in place where only four teams will be required to travel, while the other four stay at home.

This takes me back to the game matchups that the WIAC has somehow come up with. If they were truly attempting to reduce costs across the board, they should have paired schools based on geography - UWW/Platteville, Oshkosh/Point then the others to reduce the cost of travel -- why didn't they do this?

I think having a day or weekend of games at a single location would without a doubt increase ticket sales bringing in more revenue to more than offset the additional monies spent in travel. Traveling to Madison is a lot cheaper than going to Kentucky, Missouri, the Dakota's, Ohio etc. I think there's a built in recruiting benefit, as well.

* Average home attendance so far this year is as follows:

UWW   5,765
UWEC  4,419
UWP    3,278
UWL    2,914
UWS    2,457
UWSP  1,931
UWO   1,835
UWRF  1,315

AVG    2,989/home attendance

Open letter to Whitewater and Eau Claire fans,

This Texan plans to be in your fair state for about ten days on vacation with Mrs. Roocru and then following up on some genealogical research for my Dad's side of the family.  Anyway, I am planning on trying to come watch UW play at UEC on Saturday, October 16.  Just wondering who might be there for the game and if there would be a tailgate party I could crash (politely of course)?  I have met a few UW fans at some UMHB games but would like to take this opportunity to meet some more fans and watch some more WIAC football.

Thanks in advance!!

Roocru-
Where in Wisconsin do your dad's side of the family come from?

Voice, Thanks for the interest.  My great grandfather moved to LaCrosse around 1880 and raised 3 daughters and 7 sons there. As far as I can tell none of the family still lives there but I am hoping to find some more info on him.

Speaking of that, if you're going to be doing geneaological research at UWW's archives, I'm a student worker there so you'd see me on a Friday there depending on when you came.  :P

MasterJedi,
I appreciate the offer!  However, both Fridays I am in Wisconsin are travel days, so, I guess I will be on my own.  Can you pm me with some idea of the types of information your library might have?  Thanks again for your gracious offer.

First you've got to work on those abbreviations.  That would be UWW at UWEC. ;)  UW is that big school in Madison.

Thanks for the clarification.  I guess I assumed that since this post was on the D3 site and the WIAC board everyone would be aware of what I meant.  :) ;)

However, I am aware of the issue with names because my alma mater is referred to as Austin College in Texas but everyone outside the state just call it Austin.

...I was going to tell you to remember to check in your cowboy hat, boots, belt buckle and side-arm at the border so you look like a local; but after Bill's heartwarming welcome, maybe you want to keep your side-arm!!  ;)

And, oh, BTW, after last weeks performance in East Lansing, that big school in Madison is answering to a different name...it begins with 'O!'  :D   ;)

Sorry.  I only know where the EC fans hang out.

I did not mean to exclude EC fans!  I would just like to sit near someone I could easily talk to instead of sitting next to complete strangers!   ;D  I have been to the last five Stagg Bowls and have heartily enjoyed conversations with D3 fans from many schools!  Just looking for a little hospitality!  ;)

Near the entrance to the stadium, on the far side of the parking lot towards the river, there is a pavilion with a sign on it that says "UWEC parents, fans, alumni".  There are people grilling out there or enjoying a beverage and are pretty friendly.  If you get tired of the UWW fans, you can check it out  ;D   I only stopped in once, usually not enough time, but am trying to stop back again.

As a former player in WSUC, I would have loved to play at Camp Randall.  In high school, we made it to the State semi's and played that game a Baldwin-Woodville's field--Awesome NOT!

I really truly think it would be great for the players and fans.

It probably would be now.

If you are a former WSUC guy as I am  you are probably around my age.

I got the privilage of playing at Camp Randall for a State championship in 1986.  It was cold as hell and the field was the old carpet so it was basicly like playing on concrete.
The entire experience was cool but the field sucked.

Also it seem like no one was there due to the fact that it was such a large venue.

I guess I would have better feelings about it if we had won :P

Too bad the game isn't at the Perk because you'd be welcome at our tailgate.  You and I met in the parking lot before the 05 game in Belton.   We still go to the home games but draw the line at traveling now that my son is done playing.  I'm still crazy about Warhawk football but even I'm not that crazy!  ;)
