With the way that the playoff teams are selected, it makes sense why they may shy away from scheduling some teams. At the same time, that can be kind of short sighted. After all, if your only goal is to make the playoffs, then you are unlikely to win a championship.

So I guess I see it as what are your goals?

1) Schedule and play to make the playoffs?
2) Schedule and play to become the best and maybe win a championship?

Not sure that playing powerhouse teams each season (for non-conference games) gets you THAT much closer to the Stagg Bowl...

I know that's what happen to whitewater....but there were more important factors on why Whitewater came to power, IMHO.
Yes there are other factors, but can you say if Whitewater didn't seek out better competition they would be as ready for a championship game?

Do we(UWW/WIAC teams) ever play teams in the Midwest Conference (Like St. Norberts or Ripon)?  I was just curious...

Go Warhawks this weekend!  Ill be there at 9am in the parking lot :)

Warhawks had a home/home series with St. Norberts in 04 and 05 and with Lakeland, from the NATHC, took their knocks in 05 and 06.  Neither wanted to re-up and I can't say I blame them.   ;)

maybe/maybe not, I suppose it did help a little..... but if they wanted to seek out better competition, they didn't have to look far. about half the teams in the WIAC were better then them prior to 2005, like when i was attending in the late 90s early 2000s.

Don't get me wrong...if I had to go back in time, I wouldn't change anything Berezowitz and Zweifel did to build this dynasty.

This is one of the best, "kicking a dead horse," topics.

Considering the same thing is being "kicked" around on the IIAC board, too, this has to be the fan favorite topic around hump week of the schedule in the upper midwest part of the world!!  ;)  What's remarkable, is that it always has the same ending.

Ill be up at 6am and on the road by 7am.  We are about 2 hours away from the Perk.  Tomorrow night im going to make some chili for the tailgate!  I hear it might be a low scoring game?  Is there any truth to that?

I really enjoy reading/conversing occasionally with the guys on the CCIW boards.  One of the most intelligent and respectful boards on Post Patterns IMHO.   That and the fact that most of the schools are in my backyard and a lot of their coaches used to know our phone number.  ;)

Big thanks, Voice.  We would have shown up at the crack of dawn for a 3:00 game, (like we did last year,) and that can make for a very long day.    ;)

Wasn't it last year that Lakeland met up with Whitewater in the first round? I don't think that game was even close, once the whistle was blown.

It's Family Weekend at UWW. You may see lots of people near the Perk at 11AM, but gametime is 3PM.

A few years ago, North Central played UWW in the playoffs. The game got out of hand by the second quarter. Last year, Illinois Wesleyan got beat badly by UWW. All it showed was that the best CCIW teams weren't ready to take on UWW. I've seen NCC twice this season, and I'll see UWW this weekend. I'll have a better idea how NCC compares to the premiere team in D3.

IMO, it makes no sense for a team with playoff hopes to schedule a game where a 40 point loss would be considered a good effort.

UWO played Lakeland in 2002 when UWO finished 4-6 (2-5 conference) and beat them 33-14.
UWO played Lakeland in 2003 when UWO finished 4-6 (1-6 conference) and beat them 26-23 in 4OT.
UWO played Lakeland in 2006 when UWO finished 5-5 (3-4 in conference) and beat them 31-10.
UWO also played Ripon in 2006 and beat them 57-0.
UWO played Lakeland in 2007 when UWO finished 7-3 (4-3 conference) and beat them 62-7.
UWO also played Ripon in 2007 and beat them 44-6.
UWO played Ripon in 2008 when UWO finished 4-6 (2-5 conference) and beat them 14-13.
UWO played Ripon in 2009 when UWO finished 4-6 (2-5 conference) and beat them 40-16.

I believe UW-EC played St. Norberts in the 1st round of the playoffs in 2006 and barely beat them.
