MW - are you still coaching? If so, how are things going? This would be year 2 of the building process, right? That would also deserve +k.

I was a middle school HC in 2008-2009 at a brand new school.  We were 2-5 the first year and 0-7 last year.  This year I moved to a Brand New HS and am the varsity QB coach.  We are playing a split schedule, 5 JV and 5 Varsity games.  We are currently 3-0 JV and 1-3 Varsity.  We've outscored our JV opponents 136-16, but were beaten pretty bad in the three Varsity losses.  We have no Seniors at our school and about 10 Juniors on the team, but have a LOT of young talent so should be very good in 2 years.

Even though it cost me "karma" last week:

BPD3 Level System Top 25

www.uwwfootball.blogspot.com

I think the troops are warming up to the BPD3 Level System...I've seen a significant increase in vitamin K since this weeks Top 25 was unveiled!!  ;)

I gave you +K.  Anyone who volunteers their own time to cover their favorite D3 team with a website is all-right by me.

Thanks MW!  ;)

Bobo, it does look like the k is increasing, but the sentiments don't seem to be unanimous:

this from Thunderbolt on IIAC Board:

"No offense bp, you are obviously a big fan of your team and put a lot of time into being a fan of the WIAC and d-3. But this is just plain silly. The only legitimate poll  (IMO) is right here on this web site. It already has 25 different levels. If one felt the need to break it into six groups, look at the number of points behind each team and the breaks between groups is pretty obvious. And with 25 voters across the country, one voters bias doesn't skew the results. The way you bounce teams in and out and up and down (especially WIAC teams) kind of flies in the face of your whole premise of grouping like teams together."

Would never try to compete with D3football.com poll, but I DO think Coe ranked 6th is a bit lofty.  But now the Kohawks faithful seem a bit ruffled at my attempt to straighten it out.
;D ;D

If every day were SATURDAY, I wouldn't feel compelled to compile such frivolous concoctions. But we have to do SOMETHING to have fun between Saturdays, don't we??  ;)

I think "it's silly" as the Bolt says that he is getting all wired up about it. I think your stuff is solid, bp.

Looking forward to a major Homecoming weekend here in Menomonie. Weather should be perfect, tight game probably as the Devils take on the aerial assault from Point. The beer will be cold after the game at the Ale House. The town is already starting to bust at the seams with people.

Sometimes life is pure bliss.  8-)

Thanks, BDB! I appreciate your perspective!  :D

Have a great time Saturday! It should be a great game! Nothing quite like football Saturday in a college town in October!  ;D :D ;D

02 Warhawk

today's triple take:

Most likely Top 25 team to get upset:
Keith's take: No. 1 UW-Whitewater. Okay, so they're technically the least likely top 25 team to be upset, but if it's going to happen before the Stagg Bowl, this Saturday is likely as any. UW-Eau Claire is 3-2 and doesn't stand out statistically, but they've played St. John's, No. 7 North Central and UW-Stevens Point already, so they've proven they can stand up with top Division III talent. If the Blugolds can hang close to the almighty Warhawks, they might fare well; UW-EC beat the Johnnies and Pointers in overtime. Plus, the state's pride, the Badgers, kick off later in the evening, which means any football fan near Eau Claire can come out to Carson Park to give the Blugolds a raucous home atmosphere.

Which team will be affected the most by injury?
Pat's take: UW-Whitewater. The Wisconsin State Journal report regarding the status of running backs Levell Coppage and Booker Stanley gives pause. That still leaves Antwan Anderson — you remember him, he rushed for 1,213 yards in 2008 — but that's not the same as having three guys who could rush for 100 yards at the drop of a hat.

With Anderson and UWW's line...i don't think the running game with be affected at all.

If it's 25 voters he wants...maybe we can get 25 of us together to vote on your poll. you know....to make it more credible, and less "silly"    ;)

Sure sign of Homecoming weekend:

The grocery store across the street from where I work just inflated a monster bottle of Leinenkugel's.

The thing must be 100 feet tall and needs to be tethered down by ropes.  ;D

I thought it was just a ploy to get karma points.  :D

People can post that their school should be ranked, or ranked higher, or ranker lower but those discussions are yawners. Now, which level a team is at (in a given week) gives more pause for thought.

This might be one very good reason for Keith's take (hijacked from the ATN thread):

Awesome. I am clearly not writing about anything that anyone cares to discuss.

(takes a load off)

.......sound of crickets chirping..........

;D

If you want someone to comment about your article, write about how vulnerable the #1 is! That always gets people's attention. It's somewhat odd, however, that he didn't mention that little thing called UW-EC/UW-Platteville in the analysis...(YIKES)!! ;) Personally, I would have mentioned the long bus trip on Saturday morning as potentially having a greater impact than the sum total of everything he did say.

02, That's a great idea! And +k for making me laugh out loud. We could make things REALLY silly if we wanted to!!  :D

ILGator,

Definitely was not plotting for karma points. I've never even been told where are and for what they are redeemable! Maybe they should be redeemable for a beer at local bars the day of the game!  ;D

Thanks for the post and for "getting" the concept.  The BPD3 Level System Rankings are put together with thought and opinion, but the purpose is to help add a new element to the weekly conversation. Just trying to help us get through to Saturday!!  ;D

That's almost John Kerry-esque:

"I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it."  ;D

We need to work out a deal to have karma points redeemable for 100 foot tall, monster bottles of Leinenkugel's.  ;D  BDB has enough to buy the entire brewery!!

Speaking of really BIG things, get a load of this.

BPD3 Level System Top 25

www.uwwfootball.blogspot.com

Thank you for moving UMBH out of Level 2.  It is hard for me to believe that a team with the 236th-ranked pass defense (out of 236 ranked teams!!!); 198th-ranked total defense; and 160th-ranked scoring defense that has given up an average of 29.4 ppg to five teams with a collective record of 14-13 should be considered as a Level 2 team.  Additionally, given their lack of offensive balance (178th-ranked passing offense and 9th-ranked rushing offense), I would think that UMBH would have posted at least one loss if it had played a team with a top tier (say top-50) rushing defense.  UWL has a 184th-ranked rushing defense; Hardin-Simmons has a 160th-ranked rushing defense; Louisiana College has a 210th-ranked rushing defense; and Mississippi College has a 122nd-ranked rushing defense.  IMO, UMBH would struggle to put anywhere near 38 points on the board against UWW, Mount Union, North Central, Central, Wittenberg, Bethel, or a few of the other more defensive minded teams in the North and West regions.  But, this is just my opinion.

Oh yes, I, too think that Coe at #6 is a bit of a stretch -- though I do think that they will prove to be a bit tougher for Wartburg than Mounmouth, Gust. Adolphus, Cornell, Loras, Buena Vista!!
