I didn't think I'd be able to attend the game in Oshkosh today because I had to move my daughter to Kenosha.  But lo and behold we were able to get all the moving done yesterday so I'm able to make the trip.

WARHAWKS,WARHAWKS,WARHAWKS
Jealous.  I have some pressing family business that I can't avoid so will not be
watching/listening/attending the game and I can count on 1 or 2 fingers how many times that has happened since 2003!   But there is a small chance I can catch the second half.  Fingers crossed.  ;)

GO WARHAWKS!!!!

#13 Wartburg @ #17Central - a lot rests on this game for the IIAC championship. Coe is praying for a Dutch win.

What Coe prays for might have a lot to do with whether they place more value in being a co-champion or in the playoffs.

If Central wins (barring any last week upsets), you end up with a three way tie. Wartburg gets the AQ according to IIAC rules, but Coe's loss to Wart now doesn't look as nice in either the regional rankings or to the national selection committee. They might get left out of the field all-together or end up with a much more difficult playoff road via a lower seeding.

If Wartburg wins, they are sole champs. But Coe's loss is to an unbeaten Pool A team that will likely have a top 3 regional ranking. Highly likely they make the field and are even seeded in the top 5.

Just read the article about Larry Terry stepping down of his own volition. Sounds like he's a class act and really does desire the best of the UW-Lax program, even at his own professional expense. Very self-less move. Wish him and his family the best in the next chapter of life...

Congrats to the Hawks on a sixth straight conference title! ;D  Oshkosh must have pulled every gadget play out of the book in the first quarter  ::)  It was fun to watch for a while.

UWEC totally dominated UWL - for the first two plays of the game, with Joel Sweeney and student body right for two plays, 11 yards, and a first down. But the 'Golds lost momentum by going away from that early success on that side with different playcalling and didn't force the Eagles to stop him... (I'd have had student body right, student body right, student body right, until they stopped that particular play.  ;)) Oh well.

And then I woke up.  ;) UWL 49-14...

And saw UWL totally spank the 'Golds... Ouch. But UWL played its best game of the season, in all phases, and totally dominated all sides of the ball, and earned the W. Everything the Eagles did worked efficiently; not much worked for UWEC; the team was flat and found no rythmn all day...

Eagles jumped to a 35-0 lead at half; game was really over at about 14-0... UWEC had a turnover and blocked punt that lead to two UWL TDs, too. 'Golds never got any field position, never sustained any drives to give the D a break, and gave the Eagles a short field several times. The Eagles capitalized, going 6-6 in the red zone...

I give the game ball to UWL's WR Travis Bordeau; he didn't have a catch longer than 20 yards, didn't score, but did haul in 12 for 143 yards. He had a big role in setting the tone of the day, with his catches as UWL dinked and dunked it down the field in the first quarter. His 20-yarder was a highlight play; a one-handed catch that took the ball to the EC 2 yard line, putting them in position to make it 14-0 on UWL's second possession in the first quarter...

Eagles QB Nick Anker continues to rewrite the UWL passing records; he completed 32 today, which is one more than the team record, which he tied last week against Stout. He also threw for a career-best 5 TDs.... UWL's banged up O line played well, too.

For the Blugolds, Sweeney had a nice 11-yard TD run; his UWL counterpart, Lee Lauters, scored twice on runs, once on a pass play...

Blugold highlight of the day was a 25-yard pass play from backup QB Alex Delebreau to Austin Goetsch, who was pert near sitting on his rear end at the goal line, and hauled in a wind-aided lame duck just before it hit the ground... Delebreau looked decent in his debut, 7-11 for 72 yards and a TD pass, which are now his stats for the year...

Good win for the Eagles, who played with some fire and inspiration, and finally got another W. They've played hard the whole year; things finally came together for them today. Good to see them send Coach Terry out with a win during his last home game....

I also thought it was classy, intended or not, that the 'Golds, who had the ball for the last 4:51, went 9 plays for 58 yards, put together a nice drive, with subs, and got down to the UWL 12, but didn't show any hurry - just letting the clock run down, during the final two minutes especially - and didn't run a last play, to try to pad the stats with a score...

I think Coppage has an excellent shot at Justin Beaver's team career rushing record of 6584 yards.  Coppage is already at 4708.

a record that looked untouchable at the end of the 2007 season. who would of thought the very next RB would make a run at it??? hopefully Coppage can stay healthy, and he'll come very close to it.

I agree.  It is all pretty remarkable, especially given the prominent number of carries afforded his backups over the years.  I think it also really speaks to the big guys up front.  The guys on the offensive line, since the Stagg Bowl run started, has been dominant.  They are establishing a UW-W legacy of offensive line excellence. Back in the day, the Redskins recognized their O-Line as the "Hogs" in tribute. It seems like the Warhawks' offensive line has been "nickname good"!

Again - "would of"..? Grammar is not the strong pont here, but it's "would have."

Seriously, looking at Beaver and Coppage - how many games were played by each. I know Beaver was out with injury for a few games one year. Someone with the time and inclination could look at the rushing yardage of each up to the number of games Coppage has played so far. I would find it interesting. My guess is that Beaver is up in Yards/Game.

Did Beaver have a group of running backs that had a similar number of carries as Anderson last year and Anderson and Stanley this year?  Someone with a longer history would have to provide that answer.

Justin Beaver:
2004...8 games, 50 carries for 352 yards, 42.5/game.
Colin Burns was the feature runner this year with 282 carries for 1490 yards in 10 games.
2005...14 games, 428 carries for 2994 yards, 172.9/game
Justin Jacobs was second in carries with 56 for 232 yards and Andy Lange had 62 carries for 491 yards
2006...10 games, 266 carries for 1430 yards, 136.9/game.
Derek Underwood was next with 100 carries for 456 yards and Brady Pitz had 76 carries for 523 yards
2007...15 games, 444 carries for 2552 yards, 163.7/game
Danny Jones was next with 158 carries for 621 yards

Coppage...
2008 13 games, 298 carries for 1513 yards, 112.4/game
Antwan Anderson was next with 185 carries for 1238 yards in 14 games
2009  15 games, 310 carries for 2143 yards, 140.5/game
Antwan Anderson 120 carries for 616 yards in 13 games.  CJ Miller 73 carries for 447 yards in 14 games.
2010 to date  8 games 160 carries for 1034 yards, 125.9/game
Antwan Anderson 120 carries for 737 yards in 13 games.  Booker Stanley 68 carries for 558 yards in 7 games.

So far Anderson is getting more carries per game than any other player during Beaver's run.  Also in two of the four years Beaver played the second leading rusher was a quarterback.

Beaver was a hell of running back and often carried the WARHAWKS on his shoulders.  He was a special player.  Coppage is too.  We've had a lot of really good running backs at WHITEWATER in the fifty years I've followed the program.  Both of these guys rank right up there with the rest of them.

Thanks Raider...just got back last night (Tues AM here now).  Trip itself was really fast; I think I spent more time in the air than I did on the ground. Thankfully, it was a non-stop and didn't have to mess with layovers...and everything was right on schedule.
As for the game itself - nothing beats Academy football atmosphere. AFA 42 West Point 22 final btw. Weather was great for November, too. The game was pretty close for 3 quarters (21-16 until :44 left in 3rd). AFA completed only 3 passes, but two of them went for long TD's. Army couldn't finish and had to settle for 3 FG's. Turnovers cost them 2 more TD's. I'm sure the Army guys feel they let this one get away because they gave a good effort, but a lack of consistency at crucial moments cost them a chance at winning. They have vastly improved over a couple years ago. AFA has always been tough for them. It was still well worth the trip. On a side note, did you happen to check out the uni's? They didn't wear throwbacks, but Army came out with all black helments, gray jersey and pants w/ a black stripe - not as cool as the camo's, but nice. AFA scrapped the sky blue and gray for a red, white and blue look. When I first saw AFA, I thought they were wearing helmets like Michigan, but then realized they were different. They were supposed to look like the helmet of a Thunderbird pilot. Red in the front/white in the back w/ 4 blue stars across the top. HERE'S a look at them. What do you think? I had my hands on a pair of Army/ND tickets on 20 Nov to be played at Yankee Stadium, but decided to pass. My wife talked me out of it. Deep down, it would still be a hoot to go, I think!!  ;)

I got me a copy of the UWW/Oshkosh game recorded from the UW-O stream. Someone paid $8 for it, but the quality is way below acceptable. How can they can actually charge $8 for something so poor? Did anybody else pay to watch it? What did your picture look like? Congrats to the Warhawks for a 6 pack of championships!! A big win over UW-L will make it totally satisfying.
