Nobody here from the WIAC had better be knocking the MIAC. There is a very long history of them beating UWW and any other WIAC/WSUC in the playoffs. Today the Hawks are on top, until they lose....How many times did Gagliardi come over here and throw a beat down on our conference over the decades???

I must reiterate that the difference between these top notch teams from conference to conference isn't that much. Many of the games between them will be pretty close. Except maybe for Wesley..... ;D

No one, as yet, has answered my query about the status of the WIAC. There are those who try to denegrate other conferences, but don't cite their evidence. I know that history tells us quite a bit, but let's let it play out before jumping to conclusions regarding the present.

Speaking of which, what causes some on here to downplay St Thomas, and Bethel, and for that matter, the MIAC. Onl a few have seen either of these teams this year. I would put those two along with St John's against the top three in any conference. The second tier of St Olaf, Concordia and Carleton is probably about the same as other conferences. We won't talk about Augsburg, Hamline and Gustavus, but I'm sure that the cellar dwellers of any conference are pretty much equal also.

I also just remembered that SJU made a run to the Stagg in 2000 playing Stout, Pacific Lutheran, Central and Hardin-Simmons, ALL on the road. If memory also serves, when the Lutes won, they played all their playoff games on the road.

the only thing I got for you is that I don't think the bottom of the WIAC is as week as the bottom of other conferences.

Let's face facts.....AT BEST UWW is the #8 team in the country!  As it is written....as it shall be....

HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!   ;D

On a serious note, I do think ONU can give NCC a challenge, and quite possibly be traveling to Whitewater in the regional final.  And of course, you will show our step-brothers that wonderful warm (YIKES) Wisconsin charm.....right?   ;)

I have a question that has nothing to do with the playoffs, I know, shocking!  :o

Do we play Adrian again next year at Adrian? Basically is it a home and away (as I like to call it rather than home-home) series or just a one off game? If so that shoots us in the foot again. Two non-region games (Adrian and Campellsville). At least we play Lax again and that'll help us, especially if they start improving with a new HC.

Other than the National Statistics, what do we know about Franklin and the Conference they play in?

Is anyone else thinking - football team from Wisconsin hosting a team from Indiana .... sounds very familiar .... could we have a Camp Randall deja vu at the Perk on Saturday?
What the hell was that?  That was a Drop-kick.  Drop-kick? How much is that worth?  Three points.  THREE POINTS?!

I really don't know much of anything about Franklin but I would say they are a decent team in a weak conference. They were 11-2 two years ago before losing to Wheaton I believe. As I've mentioned earlier they aren't a bad team but they did lose to Carthage in the first game and they haven't seen an elite team all season. My guess is UWW by 28+

As long as it's not tied 10-10 midway through the second quarter.  :P

It is suppose to be what you call a home and away.

Their conference is ranked 20th (out of 27).

I think D3football will come out with playoff capsules later this week, providing more info about the UWW/Franklin matchup.

St. Johns never came and threw down a beat down on UWW.  And HS coach I did mean right now.  No question mt. union has done and is still doing something remarkable.  But Augustana....hmmmmmm!

^ all due respect, but no.

NCAA is it's own entity. Yes DIII is a part of the NCAA, but the emphasis on regional games did not come from the NCAA office. It wasn't a top down decision. It was the choice of small college presidents and administrators who are a part of the NCAA. It was a bottom up decision. Make sense? I think this is a subtle but significant difference.

We can't blame 'the man' in this one. Unless you mean to imply that everytime someone on these boards complains about the NCAA they are really just complaining about the 236 member institutions of DIII.

not sure that is entirely true. I attempted to e-mail the 8 members of the committee trying to get some feedback on their decisions, and the only thing I received back was "your concerns will be forwarded to the NCAA liaison for response."

So i'm not sure what he ment by "NCAA liaison". Was he refering to the committee itself, or a different NCAA group all together?

Umm, you started this argument by saying UWW was doing something "unprecedented". Just to clarify, that means you are claiming to be doing something that has never been done before. So by your own account, you are claiming that in the history of DIII, no one has done what you're now doing. So it was totally appropriate HS Coach to bring past great programs into the conversation.

Just off the top of my head Ithaca, Augustana, Mount Union, (even UW-Lax to an extent in the 90's) have all done something very similar, and in some cases more significant.

And as for SJU, here's their record against the WIAC: Wis.-Eau Claire (7-4-0); Wis.-La Crosse (5-1-0); Wis.-River Falls (6-1-0); Wis.-Stevens Point (2-0-0); Wis.-Stout (2-0-0); Wis.-Superior (2-1-0); &
Wis.-Whitewater (1-3-0)
Sept. 21, 2002 W, 42-18
Nov. 26, 2005 L, 7-34
Dec. 2, 2006 L, 14-17
Nov. 22, 2008 L, 7-37

You've definitely gotten them good twice, had a very close battle in the quartefinals, but unless I'm mistaken, I'd call 42-18 a pretty sound victory for SJU.

Maybe you just don't have enough grasp on history to truly appreciate what you're talking about. UWW is playing some VERY impressive football the last 6 years. Again, very impressive. No one is trying to take that away from you. But as some of your WIAC brethren have pointed out, they did start playing football before 2005.  ;)

I was referring to your comment about the emphasis on 'regional games' and regions in general. The regional committees and NCAA national committee are definitely responsible for the decisions made by these entities each year.

But the reason that they function like they do for the playoffs is because of decisions made by DIII member institutions, so in that sense, the buck does stop with us. So blame the NCAA national selection committee for this years decisions, but blame all of us for the fact they place such an emphasis on regional criteria. Now, Sos might be a whole nother deal  :-\
