Alas, no games AT a CCIW school - YET! ;)

You mean they haven't grown a pair - YET?  ;)

btw, BoBo and family are safe and sound...you might've heard about the afternoon (Korea time) artillery fired courtesy the DPRK at the South Korean island in the Yellow Sea (or West Sea as it is called in Korea). It was a couple hundred KM to our west; a few ROK Marines dead and a small number injured, along with a couple civilians. Kim Jong-il seems to be looking for a little attention. These kinds of actions from the north have become so commonplace, that while we were out at dinner tonight, the TV in the restaurant was showing non-stop coverage, but no one paying close attention to it. Go figure...

Be safe.  You and your family are in my prayers.

Always appreciated...thank you!!

We saw the other QB from Indiana last week, too - what a convenient way to evaulate their football and on-field leadership.

BoBo,

Glad you are safe over there. I did think about you. I don't know anyone else in Korea.

Good luck to our purple Wisconsin friends on Saturday.

Congrats to the Warhawks for doing what they had to do and moving on to face Trine.  UWW has a great team!  Congrats to the Grizzlies on a fine season and for playing hard at UWW.  It was a shame that we had to meet in the first round.  Now you can see why d3football.com voted the Franklin tailgate the "Best D3 Tailgate in the Nation"!  :)

A regular season game would benefit both schools but would be tough for the Grizzlies since they have already scheduled Mt. Union for a home & home.  :o

Trine is very similar to Franklin.  The Thunder edged Franklin at Trine in 2008 and the Grizzlies returned the favor at home in 2009 (Trine's last regular season loss).  Watt and Ray are similar QBs.  Ray is a more accurate passer but Watt is a more dangerous runner.

I was pleasantly surprised by the level of talent that this Franklin team had up front. I look forward to hopefully playing you guys in non-conference competition in the future. It will be a great test for both of our programs.

While it wasn't all that pleasant for me, I have to say they were good!  ;)

I meant in the context of being able to see a great football game in the first round instead of the usual 50 point drubbings that normally happen. As cold as that game was, it would have been much colder if I were bored. My go go gadget adrenaline was definitely pumping.

It seems to me that this is a pattern with this 2010 UWW team.  Slow first half by their standards with several games having a lead less than 2 touchdowns.  Against the top teams, this will not work in their favor.  They will not win the Championship if they continue to come out slow and act like they do not need to play 4 quarters.

This "slow start" perception has been one I've given a lot of thought to lately.  Is that perception reality? Is it a concern? Could the way UW-W start football games keep them from a championship?

Personally, I would be far more concerned about the first half of games "costing" UW-W if they continually dug themselves a 7, 10, or 14 point hole and had to dig out from under it week after week. The reality is that since WIAC play started (I didn't want 3 blowout wins before conference play to skew the results), UW-W has trailed at halftime exactly zero times.  Their halftime leads have been 11, 3, 31, 21, 14, 10, 10, and 7,

In all games, UW-W has outscored their opponents 112-28 in the first quarter and 122-31 in the second quarter.  If that's perceived as a slow start, then so be it.  Also, if UW-W came out poorly in the 3rd quarter, I could see being nervous with a small lead at halftime. However,  UW-W has outscored the opposition 154-28 in the third quarter.  The average score at halftime of UWW games is 21.3 to 5.4.

I do believe the team and the coaching staff is far more patient than the fans over the past couple of years.  People watch UW-W completely destroy teams in the third quarter and ask, "Where was that in the first half? Why do we start so slowly?"

The Warhawks do a great job of testing a number of different attack points of the defense during the first half. They see the reactive movements of the defense to a variety of formations and plays.  When they see weakness, they don't react immediately. They put the information in their back pockets and make the adjustment at halftime.  That is really wise because it doesn't allow the opponent to "adjust to the adjustment" at halftime. When UW-W makes their adjustment, the opponent is left with trying to adjust to the adjustment on the fly. And if you'll notice, UW-W often scores so quickly in the 3rd quarter, by the time an adjustment can be made, UW-W has stretched the lead and captured the momentum.

Nothing is ever a given in playoff football. I understand that.  There have been numerous posts after the Franklin game that have questioned this team. I want to go on the record at this point and say I believe in them. I'm not wringing my hands. I'm not worried about Trine, nor am I wringing my hands about possible trips to Naperville or Dover or Belton.  I have no idea how far this team will advance. Every team UW-W plays from here on in will be very good.  But UW-W will show up.  And I'm guessing they will answer your questions.

In 2009, if you compare quarter by quarter, UWW scored the least amount of their points in the first quarter. And their defense gave up most of their points in the second quarter..... and that team didn't turn out too bad  ;).
