I would expect that out of a CCIW crew... but whatever, we're still undefeated.

I've never seen a crew worse at spotting the ball.  If a player was tackled and slid three yards he got the three yards. One fair catch at the nine was spotted at the eleven.  It was lousy.

Sorry I don't know how to group these quotes so I can respond in one post

Sounds like badgerwarhawk missing games due to bowling night!!  ;)

Ouch, that hurts.  I'll have you know I skipped bowling saturday last weekend to see the game.  :D

raking leaves, putting up the christmas tree, bowling...the only thing I skip to watch a game is sleep!!  ;)

D O.C.

Got a scare when they called out a 31 - 31 score.

WTF

no team should score 31 on WW.

You hung in there.
OK.

Not that I want that same Stagg Bowl again. We screwed our part up.   :-\

Another great day at the Perk.  More fans than I expected given the holiday weekend, and they were into the game.
A few thoughts:

-I am glad the Hawks played the two teams they did.  Two consecutive weekends of excellent quarterbacks with very strong passing attacks should prove beneficial for our D going forward.  I like to think of it as being "pre-disastered" (The World According to Garp).
-Those of us in the stands where I sat were in agreement, UWW could have run the ball all day.  On the surface it was frustrating because it seemed obvious UWW could have run the ball at will and kept the ball away from Trine's offense.  But I have faith in this coaching staff and believe there must be a bigger picture in mind to the game plan, perhaps it involves getting Brekke as much experience as possible for future games?
-The time of possession:  First three quarters Trine had the advantage in each quarter.  The last quarter, when UWW decided to "Pound the Rock" seriously, 12 minutes for the Hawks and 3 for trine.
-Like Franklin, Trine moved the ball through the air on a lot of shorter passes which makes it tough to get pressure.  No TD bombs today.
I'm encouraged for NCC.

The Roop

Much tougher draw as a #2 seed than a #1 seed. Whitewater has faced competition in the 1st and 2nd rounds this year that they don't normally see until the 3rd or 4th. You're still in it so don't complain. The NCAA did a good job of balancing things out, for the most part, this year. Still not sure about UWW being a #2 though.

In my opinion, the last 8 quarters of football have been the best thing this particular UW-W team could have experienced.  They were pushed hard by two teams with highly ranked quarterbacks, who had the capability of attacking the Whitewater pass defense, which had been largely untested through the regular season.  These matchups led to two highly competitive games, in which the whole team was challenged to respond.  I think UW-W will be better for the experience.

While this week, we saw a shoot-out, next week, we could well see a slugfest.  Both teams can run the ball, both teams can stop the run.  Strength vs strength.  UW-W just beat two undefeated teams whose offense ranked in the Top 5 in scoring in the nation.  Saturday will present a whole new challenge. NCC will feature the best defense UW-W has faced all year.  The Cardinals rank second in scoring defense, third in rushing defense, and fourth in total defense.  They are fast, they shut down the run, they pressure the passer, and they make plays. Offensively, they run 69.4% of the time.

Location of the game? Seedings? Selection Committee? SOS? Common Opponents? Throw them all out. None of it will matter on Saturday.  Bad refs? Overcome them. No excuses. One thing matters on Saturday. Winning. Period. Championships are not handed out, Championships are seized. Carpe Diem Warhawks!

EXCELLENT post!   So it isn't a walk in the park this play-off season for the Warhawks.  It shouldn't be.  Our first National Championship in 07 was hard fought and hard earned.  We overcame a loss early to St.Cloud, 3 quarters of lousy play against La Crosse and won the last 2 games by 9 and 10 points.  In 05 we ran the table decisively and came home from Salem empty handed.  I was so sure we would remedy that mistake in 06 but in 07, I readily admit, I was just happy to be there.  Little did I know that the team had been strengthened by adversity and developed the, "refuse to lose," mentality of a champion.  I am guilty as anyone, feeling like somehow never being behind on the score board and winning both play-off games by 31 and 14 points and doing it with a back up QB against two very talented teams is something to worry about, but no more. These boys are having to overcome this play-off season......... seedings and rankings, road games, injuries, quality opponents, etc and I remember how that kind of road turned out in 07!   The prize will be all the sweeter for it if we win it all!  ;)

About the ball placement, Pretty bad when you can see the bad spots on the stream.  One 3rd down play the runner was clearly down a yard short and the ref just took the ball and set it down a yard ahead of the marker and signaled 1st down.  ::) ???

BW,
I learned how to group posts from a Johnnies poster years ago who isn't around much any more, Kilted Rat.  At the time he was in med school and I'm guessing, interning/residency is dominating his time these days.  ;) He would group 4,5, etc posts at a time.  Anyway, quote and reply to 1st post, then highlight it and right click "copy" and then hit the back button to go back to the boards.  Find the next post you want to reply to, quote it, reply to it and then afterwards at the bottom, set your curser and  right click "paste."  Just be careful to make sure the curser is always after the "quote," at the end of each post to insure that they stay separate from each other.  Hope that makes sense.........

There is Features, Jimmys, Black Finn, Bar Louie, to name a few places to have a beer before or after the game.  A few steakhouses and a Mongolian Barbecue for dinner.
Thanks for the info, FormerCard, but the more important question is, how is the tailgating, adequate space, drinking and fire pit rules, etc?

Looks like I missed a good one....was Trine doing a no-huddle offense like Franklin did?? That seemed to throw whitewater's D off a little.

After seeing the box scores, it looks like UWW's D really stepped up and made some nice halftime adjustments...something the coaching staff has excelled at all season long.

If anyone is making down to IL for the game next weekend, send me a personal message if you're interested in a pre-game party  8-).  Trust me...it'll be a nice alternative than tailgating in a Naperville parking lot  ;). Nothing against NCC tailgating scene, but it'll be nice to get outta the cold.

I agree with Bleedpurple....I really don't see this game turning into a shoot-out like the Franklin/Trine games. I don't think NCC has the firepower to put up numbers like Franklin and Trine can. But on the other hand, UWW hasn't seen a defense like they're about to see in Naperville this weekend. If points and yards are kept to a minimum NCC will have a very good chance at beating us. However, if UWW gets out to an early lead I'm not sure if NCC has to weapons to play from behind.

Hopefully our All-conference QB and All-American O-lineman will be available this weekend....we will need them. we've been getting by without them lately, but hopefully they'll make the trip to Naperville and play.

Oak Park contingent will be there to support Coppage and Ford and the rest.......Parking lot somewhat small as compared what you are used to at the Perk......nice stadium and field with parking a problem....See you all Saturday....Pound the Rock !!!......

Here is an interactive map of the stadium...does appear to have visitors' seating

There is adequate space to tailgate, as Cardinal tailgators are usually in the bottom parking lot and the visiting team will be on top of the parking garage (where there are lots of parking spots)..plenty of space.   Bring along Plastic cups for your drinks and you wont have any issues.  I dont believe you can have fire pits but you may want to check with NCC's campus safety before coming.  I have inserted their number for your convenience.  630-637-5911  option 2.     and yes.....bars and restaurants are for wimps.  If you do have any wives and mothers that dont want to stand outside in the cold, there are plenty of shops within walking distance.  I am sure though if they have traveled this far, they are here for the game!
