There seems to be a consensus building on the OAC board and to a lesser degree, the CCIW board, (HScoach and Usee excluded,) that the Warhawks are going to lose this game for various reasons but the logic that seems to be coming up the most is that our defense is just not good enough.  Evidence is that we let Trine hang around for 3 quarters and score 31 on us and Franklin for the first half.  Questions swirling around the Warhawk Defense?   We have gone from, "UWW isn't the overall #1  ??? to they can't win their region."  ??? ::)
What do you guys think?  Did we play cupcakes or talented teams and did these 2 games expose the Warhawks as a lesser version of previous years?

d3football.com readers poll:

Which road team has the best shot to win in the quarterfinals?

Alfred (568) - 8%

Bethel (903) - 13%

Mary Hardin-Baylor (1530) - 23%

UW-Whitewater (3492) - 53%

The OAC board and CCIW board to a lesser degree (HScoach & Usee excluded) don't know jack!!  ;)

I took NCC and the points on the OAC Pick 'ems, just because I am a sucker and think it will be close.  But I have a suspicion HSCoach is trying to get people to bite on NCC and the points, and that UWW may end up blowing NCC out because I am terrible about picking games with a spread.

You're right, BoBo.  After all, the OAC and the CCIW have a vested interest in the outcome.
As long as we have Usee and HScoach making the call for us, I will take BP's advice and not worry. ;)

I could be way wrong on this, but I believe most of the OAC and CCIW page discussions are based on their heart/hope that NCC will win much more than their brain/eyes telling that NCC will win.

Personally, I would love to see NCC win simply because I'm sick of seeing you guys in Virginia.  Same as you're sick of seeing us.

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Congratulations, North Central is now officialy an underdog because of all the reasons you stated.   UWW may be a 21 point favorite in that case.  I will gladly take North Central covering.

And I will pleased if the WARHAWKS win by 20.

I agree w HSCoach. Do I think NCC can win? Yep. Do I think they will? No. I think the 14pt spread is good enought to get action on both sides. The final could be 17 pts either way from that spread.

By the way BP, do you think its possible for Coppage to average 6.7 ypc, Blanchard/Brekke to complete 66% of their passes, UWW to score 30+ and NCC still win the game? Stats don't always tell the whole story. It has happened many times where a team dominates statistically but doesn't win.

That was BoBo's point a few days ago.  Not sure why you would love to see NCC win, though.  Doesn't playing the CCIW Champ in the play-offs always scare you guys?   ;) ;D
Where is that, "tongue in cheek." smiley?

By the way, the early forecast for Saturday in Chicago area from Tom Skilling of the Tribune has it snowing, maybe sleet further south, but seems like bad weather, so low scoring game?

Not necessarily, this forecast sounds similar to the 2007 & 2009 Stagg Bowls.  Pretty high scoring and favorable results for the Warhawks   ;D

Well, I've seen UWW play in rain, sleet and snow and it didn't seem to make a difference.  One play at a time, one drive at a time, one defensive play at a time is what we need.  Total concentration and everybody being clued in and doing their best.

The game gear is washed and ready, I think I'll wear it around the house for a while just to take the anticipation edge off.

413- glad you posted your second comment on football 101.  You're absolutely correct that a good/great passing game is essential for going all the way.  As you pointed out in post #2, football 201 teaches that you can use a strong offensive run game as great defense- Trine can't score when UWW has the ball.  And the run game didn't just get strong in the 4th.  I looked at the play by play stats, there was NO point in the game that the run game wasn't clicking on all cylinders.  I still think the staff wanted to get Brekke more total game experience.  They saw the same effective run game as we did, but they have bigger plans in mind.

BP,
St.Norberts/Benedictine??? How could you mess that up?  One is a cupcake .............and well, one is a cupcake with sprinkles on top!   ;) You need to do what I do. Check your facts first...........and then still get it wrong sometimes.......  :-*

I'll just repeat my post from the CCIW board:

"I just got off the phone with Dr. Solomen. She officially declared that neither team has ever played in common weather, so it was hard to decide, but weather edge is officially given to North Central based on strength of the weather played in by NCC's opponents. "  ;D

I hope the weather gets ugly...Hawks seem to shine the worse the weather gets. but that won't keep me from the game!

From Voice's blog....

- If you haven't heard, it looks like Matt Blanchard will be back in the line-up for the North Central game. On last night's KOOL 106.5 UW-Whitewater Coaches Show, Coach Leipold to Gary Douglas and me "Right now its looking like Matt (Blanchard) will start. He (Blanchard) has made steady progress in his rehab process," Leipold said. "His work during this week's practice will ultimately determine if he (Matt) will be back after missing the first two playoff games."

Some good news on a Tuesday morning.  Not that I would have been uncomfortable if Brekke continued in the starting role.
