I understand that he was making a joke. However, it is my view that the D3 Student-Athletes should be not the target the jokes or personal criticism. We can discuss D3 football - upcoming games and past games without resorting to to making fun of players, their names, or their nicknames. Nick has probably heard this before so he likely would not be offended.

T_Unit, based on his email, appears to be UWW. Again, in my view, his post straddles the line for the Internet policy that UWW must comply.

Gator-
The Kukoc from Unit was a joke- based on the former Bulls player (Croatia?), I'm sure he meant no disrespect to the running back.

Then why are you saying anything??? You sound about as confused as a gator in Illinois.

USee,
Ooh, "I can tell you that Evan Jones is every bit as good as Ray and Watt".

This is a tough one for me to take sitting down.
My credentials in this case are pretty strong-
I was at the NCC- Carthage game, I was at the UWW-Franklin game and I was at the UWW-Trine game (maybe I should get a life).

Maybe if they lined all three of those QB's up and did a "combine" type of workout your statement would be accurate.  But I can tell you with 100% conviction, there is a big difference in the quality of the passing game between Jones' Carthage offense and those of Franklin and Trine.

Perhaps you'll tell me it's because NCC's D was so good.  I guess that's the question that starts getting answered in 73 hours and 12 mintues.

By the way BP, do you think its possible for Coppage to average 6.7 ypc, Blanchard/Brekke to complete 66% of their passes, UWW to score 30+ and NCC still win the game? Stats don't always tell the whole story. It has happened many times where a team dominates statistically but doesn't win.

Possible? Probably. I'd take my chances, though.  My opinion is that NCC stands a much better chance if this game ends up in the teens than if it ends up in the 30's.

This from D3 football Facebook page:

Going over the list of D3football.com All-Region nominees. Sent out an email to every conference office for follow-up with schools that have yet to nominate their players. Very short at the following spots: West Region defensive tackles and guards, North Region DTs, East Region Gs and Ts.

WIAC, please nominate Wes Hicks and Luke Hibner  :)

Whitewater made its nominations. It's the schools who do it -- I contact the conference offices because I find it's more efficient time-wise for them to look it over because they know their players better than I do.

Emma- you are probably right. But I can tell you Evan jones is every bit as good a qb as Ray and watt and NCC made him look silly. And dion Wilson, Scottie williams, and donley are all pretty good rbis that got nothing vs NCC. I don't think any of those rbs are better than  coppage but it's not the grand canyon separating them.

Not apples to apples, but these same arguments (Wheaton's D against talented CCIW runners) were being used last week to explain how effective Wheaton's D was going to be against Bethel's running game. I'd say Flannery did ok on Saturday. We'll see how Coppage does, but by weeks end, my guess is that we'll be adjusting our perceptions more about the strength of NCC's D (and by extension the CCIW's running backs) than we will be about the skill level of Coppage. FWIW.

Too bad for them it never worked!!  ;)

I thought the "Ginger Package" was a reference to Gilligan's Island.

Ginger had a package?  Yikes.

Good thing I always liked Mary Ann better.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Hazzbeen- Wheaton held Flannery to almost 2 yds per carry less than his average. He had 30 carries for goodness sakes. Look at what Coppage did with his 30+ carries. Bethel ran 30 more plays than Wheaton and scored 5 more points. If you had told me going int that Bethel would have 30 more plays I would have said Bethel wins by 21+. Wheaton defended half a game more plays than Bethel and still held Bethel to 3.8 yds per play. That's pretty good defense no matter how you slice it. Better than anyone else, including UST, has played Bethel. The problem for Wheaton last Saturday was their offense, not the defense.

And don't be putting words in my mouth about Coppage. He may be the best RB in the country. All I did was say there are some other good running backs out there, which is true. I would rather face Flannery than I would Coppage if you want the honest truth.

IMHO Flannery is a fine RB, but doesn't have near the home run ability of Coppage.    Both are good RB's, but their overall ability is quite different.

Thanks. I think I'll stay home now and not waste my time and money on the trip to the game  ;)

Anyone wanna take any bets off the Masseyratings?

You can put me down for UWW+7   ;)

Guess I don't have to go sit in the cold. This one is in the bag.

Guess this just confirms what the Committee determined and Coach Leipold has been saying...the Warhawks are the underdogs.

emma17- I am happy to match credentials. I have seen Evan Jones play over the past 2 years. He is the CCIW offensive player of the year this year and made a strong case for it last year. In the game against NCC you saw, he threw for 287 yds and a TD while being sacked 8 times and hit probably 15 more. For his career he threw for over 6,500 yds and 59 TD's while completing 64% of his passes.

I agree with you that Franklin's offense this year is better than Carthage's (despite CC win over FC). Ray has a significantly better supporting cast than Jones particularly in the offensive line. Put Jones in FC's offense and you will see similar numbers. Put Ray in Carthage's offense and he may not finish the year. I am comfortable saying Jones, as a 3 yr starter,  is as good as Ray individually.

Nope. Check again. I simulated a 7 game series and UWW wins 5x to NCC's 2x. Just like baseball.
