I think it is very hard for wide receivers to receive the nation-wide recognition necessary to compete for the Gagliardi. Congrats to Aaron for just being nominated.

What about this guy:  Blake Elliot

So what you're saying is UWW will win Saturday......?

What Barber is saying is that he is somewhat of a mutant Griffin - body of a Husky, wings and head of a Warhawk, a more powerful and majestic creature than their distant & more well known legendary cousin, the lion and eagle Griffin.

For the UWW fans, is it about 2 hours from Whitewater to Naperville?
If so, should be a large following there! :)

yes and yes.

I have a group of 12 coming with me to the game! Plus there's atleast one bus full of fans coming down from Whitewater.

I am one of those 12 that will be attending.  I think the cannon guy should come and park his setup a block away, and fire that thing every time we score  ;)

Any cannon that comes within a five mile radius of NCC is going to be destroyed by the hands of five guys in red and white stripped overalls. (regardless of who is firing it)   ;D

Exactly! And I hope Coach Z can point some talent Whitewater's way when he is out scouting for NIU.  I saw Hawk basketball Coach Pat Miller & family at an NIU football game earlier this year.  I am guessing they were there to support Z.

I went to grad school at both NIU and Whitewater.

Don't worry, we would never try to sneak a cannon near your stadium. As a token of our goodwill, we have constructed a large wooden horse in your honor. I know it's not a Cardinal, but its all they taught us to build in our public institution. We will make sure that you receive it the night before the game so that you can find a place to display it before the game! ;)

8 Times to a QB

1 Time to a OT

Not too hard for a WR to get recognition.  At least not as hard as a DL, CB or LB.

Though I'd bet less difficult for those defenders in general than for an OL guy.  I'm guessing that Blaine was a one-time-only selection (though well deserved).

I enjoy the Gagliard but I don't really know what the award is.  Most of the time they give it to what you can argue is the best player in DIII and every blue moon they give it to a guy I've never heard of before and justification they provide is because of "just more than football" the award is suppose to be all about.  I think the award has an identity crisis at times and wish they would just go all the way with the "best" player in the division or just give it each year to what they deem is the most "well rounded" performer/person in DIII.

Mr. Ypsi

I have no problem with the Gagliardi (especially after they selected Blaine - can you imagine the Heisman ever going to an offensive lineman [though Orlando Pace came pretty close]?)  I doubt anyone would want to argue very hard that the winners have not all been pretty darn close to the best player in d3 - and giving a strong impetus to academics and community service can't be a bad thing, can it?

2006 Josh Brehm Quarterback Alma.  I know the guy had great stats in the MIAA but I don't remember D3.com putting this guy on any All-American teams.  At least Rocky Myers was a 1st team all-american but I don't think anybody would say he was the best player in DIII that year (2004).

Pat would have a way better thought on this but would you consider this year's finalists the best collection of players in DIII?

If you're talking about the most talented/best players in DIII, the answer is no.. b/c the award looks at community involvement as well as academics, there's always a handfull of very tallent athletes that never get nominated...this year is no exception.

(I don't want to name names)
