The missed fumble call was bewildering.  The Head Linesman should have been in position to see what the entire visitor fan section saw - the TE got spun in the air, then whacked as he started to fall towards the turf (Big fella had a long way to fall) and the ball went loose.  That play was out in space (not in traffic), should have been an easy call.

For the record, I'm a high school varsity officiating crew member, and I'm the LINESMAN.

From the NCC standpoint, I was freaking out.  A few fans and I looked at each other as if to say "Holy crap... Got away with one there."

Just my two cents on the Wenger debate..I've seen him play for the past six years including up close as they knocked us out of state playoffs his senior year at Dakota and I've never seen him take a deliberate cheap shot on anyone.  The kid's an intense football player and quite possibly the best linebacker in the country and deserves all the pro looks he's getting.  As far as the play in question, yes there should have been a foul on the play but I didn't see anything at all that looked deliberate.  If you're going to make that argument then go after Kyle Antos for an aggressive pancake block in the first quarter and the DB that unloaded on Menzel.  It's just guys playing the game and those things are going to happen.  The refs were not CCIW refs and I thought they did a nice job of letting the kids play.  There were some questionable calls in the first quarter but after that I thought it was a well called game.

That being said, I came away extremely impressed with Whitewater today.  That is one athletic defense and they did a terrific job taking away the run in the second half and forcing North Central out of their game plan.  Just a terrific football game between two very well coached teams.

Also, for whoever made the comparison, I'd be willing to run North Central's defense up against Wesley's defense any day and like NCC's chances every day of the week.  That's the second leading scoring defense in the country and third best total defense in the country in North Central and they ran house in one of the most better conferences in the country in the CCIW.  This NCC team put up defensive numbers that haven't been seen in the CCIW since Augustana hoised four straight banners in the 80s.  I like the confidence in your defense but it lacks merit.

Congrats to the Warhawks and good luck the rest of the way!!

There was a fair amount of trash talking in the game, as there is in every game. On one play, one of the UWW OL was yelling in Garza's direction long after the play ended. It seemed to me that the UWW players were trying to get in Wenger's way after most plays. On one specific play, Coppage was nowhere near Wenger and neither was involved in the outcome of the play, but Coppage circled around and got in Wenger's face.

On the play under discussion, Wenger should have gotten a penalty, looking at what was happening at the end. But the officials were letting all the talking and pushing go, perhaps both players involved deserved a personal foul call.

ILGator, bp, others - was there an announcement at the game where the officiating crew was from? I listened to both the UWW radio broadcast and the D3 football broadcast and I can't recall either of them making any mention to the calls in the game...to me that would be a good thing!!  ;)

I know they were from Indiana.  It felt like there were some flags against UW-W at some key moments. That may have been just the emotion from being at the game, because I certainly wasn't watching what they were watching. But I was pretty bewildered by a ruling that Fiedorowics was "down" before he lost the ball two plays before Hibner's interception.

I feel there were questionable calls that went for both teams (in agreement that it could have been my emotions).  Overall, I felt like it was definitely the game it was billed to be.  Other than you guys and Mount, I think it may have been the toughest you guys will face all season (although I am seeing through Red tinted glasses haha  8-))

You need to recind your words cigar_store indian. Wesleydad as already gone on record that Wesley is likely better...you might have a fight on your hands on two different fronts!!  ;)  :D

Wow.  96, you're a real retard.

Hey man, don't stoop to his level of calling him DEROGATORY names.  He's classless, and we've called him on it.  You don't have to bring derogatory terms into it.  IF you're going to call him on something have the stats, info, and knowledge to do it properly.

Haha, well played, sir.  I don't know... Welsey has a good team.  But I honestly have a tough time believing that they will play you as well as NCC did today.  Again, maybe because I'm an alum, or maybe because I've played with the seniors on that team, but I feel that NCC was a top-tier team and it's likely going to be that the number 1 team in the nation and the number 5 team in the nation had just as tough of a battle as the number one and number two.

To be perfectly honest... We're definitely going to lose some players.  But at the same time, since 06 when we lost Radke (two time All-American) and Holden (All CCIW) everyone says "who are we going to get to replace (insert name here)?"  and we always find a way.  We're going to lose 15 guys out of that class.  And we're going to be hardest hit on the o-line.  Losing Shaub and Antos will be huge.  Antos was almost named CCIW OPOY (he was in a tie 3-3 with two coaches that didn't vote for him or Jones, then lost 5-3 on the re-vote).  Kyle Fiedorowicz and Jeff Grunwald, two HUGE components to our offense will be gone as well.  The thing about NCC is that they always find a way to reload.  SO.... I'm hoping it doesn't hit us too hard and we meet again next year.

I was going to try to be good this week.  Then Wesleydad has to start taunting on Saturday!  I say we ignore him for today. Maybe we can take the high road and not answer Wesleydad's taunts. Maybe we can just be nice this week and tell him how good the Wolverines are.  For tonight, let's just enjoy the victory over an excellent football team. Then let's take a day to rest tomorrow.

And then Monday. Monday starts....bye week!  ;D

Every bit as good as the radio made him sound.  One play today, that showed his ability to read stuck out in my mind.  It was one of Whitewater's first drives.  They had play-action in the backfield, and Wenger took one read step and IMMEDIATELY flew to the bubble screen being thrown to the defense's left side.  He was the first one to put a hit on the receiver (number 3, I believe... also a VERY good athlete as is the rest of the team) and dropped him behind the line.  His instinct is incredible.

#40 is a POS.

All American

And a d-bag. Soon to be a loser

Unlike Warhawk 96, who got a little salty because some of his favorite players were being hit too hard, I felt that the rest of the Warhawk nation was a very nice bunch. Congrats and good luck to you against Wesley and UMU. Represent the North region well.

You're very unlike me. I find it amusing that you pull the class card when I call your best player out for being a cheap shot artist. ::) I speak my mind and I stand up for the people and things that I believe in. I always have and always will. If you have a problem with it good, it says a lot about you. As far as the hits are concerned, no complaints about the clean ones. We exchanged quite a few of those. Obviously we save ours for when they matter...like during the play.

Hey warhawk96.... Takes a lot of guts to say stuff about a guy online. I'm glad New Tradition got to you before I did. Way to represent your school with class. Matt Wenger is one of the more classy players on the field and an all around great guy. You can dislike a guy for being a good player. But don't question a guy's character on and off the field. You have some backbone, boy. I could care less if I get knocked on karma for calling you out because you deserve it. NCC had your team against the ropes today, and you're worried.... I guess that's cool. Hope your team hoes far warhawk96.... At least THEY were classy.
Before you got to me ;D?! HILARIOUS! Trust me, if there were any other way to say it I would. I DO have "some backbone" ;)

A better way to say it?  How about not saying it at all?  Funny how any of the other UW-W fans have a problem with the way the game was called.  And it doesn't seem like any of your fans have a problem with the way Wenger played his game.  That's really some way to talk about a guy who was Defensive Player of the Year for the CCIW  and is in the running for the DPOY for the nation this year.  Teams chirp, and they shove after plays, that's bound to happen.  As far as I'm concerned, I didn't see any BLATANT late hits on either side of the ball.  So for you to call a kid a "POS, D-bag, loser" (especially on POSSIBLY the last game of his career... although he has had a dozen NFL teams come to look at him... truly the sign of a d-bag loser...) is just classless.  Verging on, dare I say, ignorant.  You have no justification for the posts you've made about Wenger.  Also, I gotta know... is 20-10 a TRIPLE MONKEY STOMP?

Haha, why are you still talking? This is too fun and too easy for me. I'm not surprised that you didn't see what was going on on that play but if you read the posts above this one among several others, I'm not the only one to see it...from either side. I'm also not surprised that you can't see the whole point of playing the game. It's to win it. Congratulations, you beat my generously exaggerated point spread. Go ahead and put the feather in your cap. You've been waiting to celebrate that victory for weeks now. Way to not get whooped. You should get it tatooed on your forehead. I wish Wenger luck with his NFL aspirations. I don't dislike him personally because I don't know him. I have my already stated and restated opinion on what happened but that's that. Any player that can make it to the NFL from division three is a good thing. Get your emotions in check, you're waaay more upset than I am about it.
