Hasn't been confirmed yet, but it looks like Jerry Kill of NIU will be the next head coach of Minnesota. Since Kill takes his entire staff with him when he changes positions, that would mean former Warhawk OC Jim Zebrowski would be going with him. Reunited with Andy Harris  :D

If you can't beat them, invite them to join you!!

I like that response of armour248 - "Promote Zebrowski to HC "
Is that your handle on that blog Barber?

No, I'm Barber Greene over there also. I actually get BG from Dekalb...I lived in a house on that street while attending NIU.

Z gets a lot a respect on the NIU board.  They had a big offensive turnaround this year and a lot of posters give Z a lot of credit for that (whether deserved or not). They had been pretty mediocre on offense the previous two years.

Barber Greene Road isn't very close to the University.  Why did you live way on the East side of DeKalb?

The rent was cheap and I was rooming with a couple of other guys that were in the same program. You are right, it was pretty much out in the middle of cornfields and now there is nothing but strip malls.

Good for parties I guess.  No neighbors to complain about noise.  I graduated from DeKalb HS in 1990.

I try to distinguish between turnovers and takeaways (the former are flat-out drops or fumbles on 'routine' tackles, mistaken reads where the pass goes straight to a defender, etc.; the latter are strips due to sheer overpowering of the ballhandler, great defensive reads that the qb could not reasonably foresee, etc.).  While the distinction is not by any means clear cut (especially with tipped passes), the commentaries (despite many attempts, I never could get the video feed) suggest at least two of the three (and perhaps all three) were takeaways.  I will credit the UWW defense more than fault the NCC offense; in that aspect of 'big' plays, the UWW defense was superior.  But since I suspect the UWW offense was in general superior to the NCC offense, overall I've gotta give the nod to the NCC defense.

With the end result begin the same, who gives a $%^& if the QB threw it into the arms of the defense or the ball carrier dropped the ball or a defender stripped it out with a great hit? Look at the stat sheet, there is no distinction between turnovers and takeaways. How you distinguish it makes no difference.
No, the stat sheet makes no distinction between takeaways and turnovers but I understand the point Mr. Y is making, BoBo.  Is a turnover earned by a great defense, the result of pressure on a QB, a DB getting an interception when he jumps a route, a tackler stripping the ball or did the offense just lay it on the turf as in a botched hand-off, etc. More times than not, it is the former, I believe, and that kind of differentiation can get too subjective anyway. This argument is actually one of my pet peeves.  You know, when fans of the losing team says, "Can't believe how bad our team played," and my answer to that is, "ya, great defenses will make a team do that."    In this case, it was great WARHAWK DEFENSE, IMHO ;)

(I'm assuming both your 'with' in the last sentence were actually 'win'.)

I'm not disagreeing with you, and, dang!, I wish I could have seen the game >:(.  To me, it comes down to turnovers vs. takeaways.  Did the UWW defense win the game or did the NCC offense lose the game?  In either case, the NCC defense may not have done quite enough to win, but I think we agree they certainly didn't lose it.

Did UW-W WITH the game or not?  ;D  Thanks, I corrected the post.

You would have loved the game, except the outcome.  And I think you would have seen that the increased pressure on NCC as the game wore on forced the issue. Once NCC took the lead with 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, UW-W's defense held them to 36 yards with the 2 turnovers over their final 4 possessions.  They never advanced past their own 45 during the final 20 minutes of play.  At some point, UW-W's defense has to be given credit for that.  They've now given up 17 points over the last 6 quarters.  That's not bad given the level of competition at which they are now playing.

I agree the NCC defense isn't responsible for the loss.  The only point I was making was that many people picked NCC to win the game, fully knowing what their offense was about. Turnovers aren't accidents. UW-W created them.  I think most would agree that is was a great game and the better team won.  ;)

Mr. Ypsi

No disagreement here.  I think hardly anyone except the selection committee saw UWW as the underdog.  Some of us picked NCC to win, but it was at least as much heart as head.  Obviously NCC had a chance to win (hard to deny when they lead entering the fourth quarter! ;)), but to nearly all of us it was NCC who was the plucky underdog.

Only you guys and UMU supporters don't root for upsets! ;D

footballfan413

Well, let's not forget that we are playing the #1 seed overall in the tourny next Saturday on their home turf.  UWW, from the lowly #4 ranked region,............the underdog and road warrior once again..... and you're damn right, I am rooting for an upset!  ;)

I understand the point he's making...just a lot of over analysis of a very simple concept, IMO. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter - that was my point!!  ;)

There is only one defensive stat that counts and that is points allowed.  The rest is just window dressing.

Most likely when and if a top rated division 2 school coach leaves and the job opens up. I am sure NIU will go get a d1 assistant coach who has what it takes to be a HC. Nothing against Coach Leipold but jumping from d3 to d1 is a MAJOR JUMP.
Coach Z must be some type of magician as he worked magic at UWW winning 2 national championships, and then helping NIU's offense turn around this year.

It's really a mess. They have accepted the offer to play in the Humanitarian Bowl against Fresno St. but the AD is unsure which coaches will remain to coach the team. Kill flew off to Minnesota tonight. Coach Z, want to coach the Huskies?  ???

Don't misunderstand, I didn't want to start some kind of LL to NIU rumor. I was just thinking about last year and how popular his name was being bounced around various jobs. It's bound to happen again this year, that's all I was saying.

Now that the BCS Championship game is official, the biggest unsolved question will be...:

...what kind of uniform will NIKE provide the Ducks for the game? I can only imagine!!  ;)
