The missed fumble call was bewildering.  The Head Linesman should have been in position to see what the entire visitor fan section saw - the TE got spun in the air, then whacked as he started to fall towards the turf (Big fella had a long way to fall) and the ball went loose.  That play was out in space (not in traffic), should have been an easy call.

For the record, I'm a high school varsity officiating crew member, and I'm the LINESMAN.
I just got a chance to see my DVR  from channel 17 of Naperville from the game yesterday. It is clear looking at the play and slowing it down that the ball does not come loose until #89 unilt he hits the ground and then it pops out. It was not  loose before he hit the ground. Great game UWW but don't pick on the refs they had that call correct. Once again, good luck all the way to and in the Stagg Bowl.

I was told today that WCCO Radio in the Twin Cities broadcast yesterday's St. Thomas-Bethel Division III quarterfinal game.  WCCO is to Minneapolis-St. Paul that WTMJ is to Milwaukee, WGN is to Chicago and WFAW/KOOL 106.5 is to Whitewater.

Yeah, WCCO covered the game and they did a great job. Very good coverage, complimentary of both squads and they really spoke highly of the DIII football experience. Great coverage for a DIII game, but when the Wild, Goophers and Wolves suck as bad as they do, we were really the only show in town! ;D

thats odd...my UW-W college roommate from the Chicago Burbs also DVRd the game and had the complete opposite take on the play...weird

Most likely when and if a top rated division 2 school coach leaves and the job opens up. I am sure NIU will go get a d1 assistant coach who has what it takes to be a HC. Nothing against Coach Leipold but jumping from d3 to d1 is a MAJOR JUMP.
Coach Z must be some type of magician as he worked magic at UWW winning 2 national championships, and then helping NIU's offense turn around this year.
Don't misunderstand, I didn't want to start some kind of LL to NIU rumor. I was just thinking about last year and how popular his name was being bounced around various jobs. It's bound to happen again this year, that's all I was saying.
;)[/quote]
Bobo that's what I am saying jumping from d3 as a head coach to d1 as a head coach most likely will not happen. Last year he interviewed and was a finalist for the GVSU job which ended up going to an inside assistant. Grand Valley State  is the mount union of d2 football with it's history of winning national titles and everything. However LL going to be the NIU head coach I doubt it will happen. The big question for NIU like stated before is who takes over as interim head coach and will Kill coach thm in the bowl game or just focus on the Minnesota job.
Either way WW is lucky to have LL as well as the second longest winning streak in college football as Sioux falls an NAIA school had won 40 some straight games going into Saturday, Let's just worry about Wesley as I am sure coach Z will land on his feet no matter what happens

I understand the point he's making...just a lot of over analysis of a very simple concept, IMO. At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter - that was my point!!  ;)
And then again, without this..............we'd all need a new hobby!   ;D

Didn't mean to make is sound like I was explaining something to you, BoBo.   You run circles around me in the, "football knowledge," arena.  ;) :-*

Rethinking my post afterward, I realized that it was a little dyslexic.  On the one hand, I started out validating his premise and then on the other hand, I pointed out that the premise is commonly used to minimize the effects of a great defense.  And I hate when that happens!    >:(

Is the StarTribune.com a reliable source?

Gopher's hire NIU's Kill as new Head Coach

EDIT:

On ESPN Now...

It's really a mess. They have accepted the offer to play in the Humanitarian Bowl against Fresno St. but the AD is unsure which coaches will remain to coach the team. Kill flew off to Minnesota tonight. Coach Z, want to coach the Huskies?  ???

Maybe Chandler Harnish will tire of having his third coaching staff in 5 years at NIU and transfer "down" to MTU or UWW to finish off his career with a shot at a National Championship?  LOL   ;)

With the talk of the Jerry Kill to Minnesota rumor, when do the yearly rumors of:

Lance Leipold to _______________ rumors start?  ;)

KC Keeler from Rowan to University of Delaware. Yes, major jump. No, not impossible.

Something I heard on the d3 football weekly podcast that Keith said is something I had been pondering has made me go hummm, again...that is the idea that Matt Blanchard is not going to play again this year. Are they using him as a decoy? Hear me out - as long as the opponent thinks Blanchard might play, they are going to have to waste time game planning for him. If he was announced as being out, they obviously wouldn't, which would be to their advantage. Pat even said (21:22 into the podcast) he looked good in warm-ups again. But the fact he isn't getting into the games is a little perplexing. Keith's view from afar is that there is a possibility that Blanchard is done for the year. If so, sounds like Brekke is going to have to pull an Earl Morrall-type effort leading the Warhawks to the end. Hopefully, Brekke's season ends better for the Warhawks than Morrall's Colts team did in 1968 in Super Bowl III replacing the injuried Johnny U - maybe more like the Super Bowl V season for the Colts when he replaced Johnny U again or what he did for the '72 undefeated Dolphins filling in for Bob Griese!!  ;)

We all know Lance is a good coach.  But, Nebraska fans would riot in the streets if they hired a D-III guy to be their OC.

Aren't Blanchard and Brekke's styles pretty similar?  Would an opponent have to spend that much time preparing for each of them separately?  I understand that Blanchard is older and more experienced, but I don't know if the UWW offensive game plan is that much different, other than he probably has more options to run/pass and audible.

I would keep dressing him so that opponents think he might play, but I don't think opponents are spending extra practice time preparing for both.

As a huge Huskers and DIII football fan I'd be all for it! But yeah, most fans wouldn't buy in, especially given that DIII has essentially no profile in Nebraska.

Semi-Finals...SIX YEARS RUNNING!!! I like to start off by saying what a GREAT turnout of Warhawk fans in Napperville.  The 'Hawks really fed off the energy of the fans and it was awesome seeing the sea of Purple at North Central. As far as the North Central fans I thought they were awful...they were arrogant (for what), the stuff the NCC students were yelling at the 'Hawks coming out a half was unbelievable, and then after the game a local establishment the classless and disrespect they gave us was rediculous!!  That being sad I thought it was a great hard fought game with two good football teams.  UWW didn't play its best game but even down 10-7 in the third i felt had COMPLETE control of the game.  If Whitewater scores on our last drive in the first half the game might have gotten a little lopsided, but to NCC's credit they picked off a severly underthrown ball and hung with the Warhawks until the fourth quarter. Coppage is as tough as they come and really put the team on his back again (along with the LEFT side of the line).  Brandes ability to play the ball in the air and make big catch after big catch has been incredible his entire career, he might be the most underrated WR to ever play at UWW. I'd put him as top 5 to ever play there.  UWW's ability to wear down the other teams O-line and D-line as the game goes on was overwhelmingly appararent on Saturday.  The push the hogs got and the D-lines control of the line of scrimmage in the fourth quarter was dominant from the big fellas in purple.  Sidenote...NCC's #40 was the best LB I've seen in the D3 level! (and I've played with and against some great ones; Raebel, Rhindal, Freeman, LAX had some good ones in 2004, St. John's 05, and Wabash LB in '07) His ability to shoot the gap, cover the flats, get off blocks, and just straight up tackle was VERY impressive! Best of luck to him in the future. Now on to Wesley...See everyone in Salem! Lot of traveling the next two weeks for the Warhwks family and friends

Brandes' catch in the first quarter.  He makes incredible catches look routine.  It seems like every game he makes a catch that just makes your jaw drop and you turn to the person next to you and say, "How the heck did he do that?"

As I was walking into the stadium a NCC student was behind me, looking like he just crawled out of a bar. he could barely walk while yelling (things I can't repeat on this site) at me for about a minute straight...among other things, he was saying how NCC is going to kick our a@@....and so forth.

I didn't stoop to his level, I just patted him on the back and said "we'll see, my friend" and I walked away. I'm not going to hold that against NCC, b/c i'm sure UWW would of have students saying the same thing if the game was in Whitewater....every school has their share of obnoxious drunks at the game.

I got a kick out of it and just laughed it off....besides, he probably didn't like my purple UWW flag I brought in.  ;D
