Actually, Whitewater doesn't adhere to any of the NCAA playoff regulations with regards to "neutrality" when hosting home playoff games.  They still run their player profiles before the game, Pro-Whitwater graphics on the video board, play that damn Kernoff 4000 song after TDs, Fire the Cannon, etc, etc.    You are not suppose to do that at all when hosting a playoff game.

Linfield's administration neuters all of Linfield's "stuff" and it just makes it boring during the pregame, between scores, etc.  I'm flat out jealous and wish that we would just throw the regulations out the window too.  If you earn the right to host a home playoff game then you should be allowed to make your true home field environment.  Kudos to UWW for thumbing their noses at the NCAA with regards to those stupid rules that are designed to take the fun out of football.

I guess in that case you leave me no other choice than to file a complaint about it.   :D

Only reason the rule was enforced was the Wesley coaches whined and if you have a siren in Dover I bet we don't complain about it......BOOM.......Retagent ....what your talking about as usual I don"t uderstand but this will be my last comment this year on the cannon which I agree is now over the top.....Until next season ......BOOM......

You guys are hilarious.  The fire siren at the stadium is actually one of the many Dover Volunteer FD sirens that go off if there is an emergency call.  One of the cheers that Wolverines fans use is a whoop similar to the siren.  When it goes off, it is really loud and it has panicked more than one visitor's fan thinking that there was a tornado warning.

I would like to know where you guys are getting the whining of the Wesley coaches.  I think they are just the opposite.....

C'mon Teamski, I was having so much fun at their expense. Why they feel so picked on is beyond me. I don't think that anyone in Dover isn't expecting the best team in the country to show up on Saturday. We are all well aware of the history here. Will this year be different? We shall all see on Saturday.  WWWWhhhhhhhhoooooooooooWWhhhhhoooooooooooooooooooo.

If Mount Union scores on the first play in Alliance this week, there will be a siren. The same one that goes off every Saturday at noon whether we're there of not.

John Carroll ROTC used to have a miniature howitzer they shot off every score. Rumor is after the 2007 and 2008 seasons, the barrel got rusty. ;D ;D ;D

I'm not trying to be mean, but on my sole trip to Perkins I found the whole cannon thing to be rather lame.

Or for being such rookies at this whole playoff thing ;), that they haven't read all 1100 pages of NCAA regs :P

I bet they have more than the maximum number of cheerleaders too. ???

All this talk of stadium noise reminds me- we played against Northern Iowa (Panthers) in their dome back in the mid 80's.  When UNI scored they played the sound of a roaring Panther- as loud as an AC/DC concert.  They scored 73 on us.  I still hate going to the zoo.

I know how you feel. They played it for kickoffs in '93 when we played a "money" game against Kurt Warner and crew. The Dragons lost 48-0 that day. Luckily for us, it was 48-0 at half. Warner only played three series, threw three TD's and enjoyed cool beverages on the sideline for the rest of the game.

This is probably true. Except to the minds of the NCAA committee rep on site, that team will be wearing a shade of blue.

In this part of the country, Widener fires a cannon after every score in the regular season.  It was formerly called the Pennsylvania Military College so there's a tradition.

To each his own. Personally I love the cannon and our fight song. I still listen to it on my ipod at the gym. I'm pretty sure every school has its idiosyncrasies that each member holds dear. It's part of what makes traditions special.

The canon thing grows on you, and eventually you find yourself wanting more and more.  I'm not ashamed to admit to being a canon junkie.

BTW- 413, Bleed, Warhawk Dad and Gang- it sure would have been nice to have another tailgate opportunity this weekend.  We did it right at NCC.

Dang, I spelled the wrong canon/cannon- today is a Holy Day of Obligation for us Catholics, must be why I have rules on my mind.

Cannon. I am addicted to the cannon.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm glad your going. I know you'll have a great time.

You got that right emma17.   Good food, cold drinks, good friends.  Met some nice NCC parents.   Not even the snow, cold or unplowed lot slowed us down!   ;D

Personally, I think the whole cannon tradition would be way more cool if you were really shooting it at something. Say for instance, each week you construct a large replica of the opposing team's mascot on the opposite side of the field. With each TD the cannon fires a live round over the crowd and players. By the end of the game you hope to have destroyed the mascot. Now THAT would be cool, and much more intimidating and demoralizing! Pretty sure there wouldn't be any liability concerns either!
