Playing at the same level may not be the answer, IF Wesley hasn't played a team as balanced as UWW.

If UWW can continue it's excellent play against the run and make Wesley one dimensional, then I imagine the next question is will UWW's defense succeed in limiting the big play receptions by Wesley's big and athletic receivers.

Offensively, UWW is strong up front of course, but they aren't slow and big.  The O line moves their feet well and will hopefully do so enough to keep Mayes and company away from our QB.

emma17, i have the same question.  will they be able to keep playing at the level they have been playing at.  can they handle the big lineman that uww always has?  that question can not be answered until saturday.  and stats dont cover that stuff.  can wesley's quickness spell trouble for the big lineman?  that what makes this fun, all we have is pure conjecture.  glad it gets played out on saturday.

Ask NCC if our lineman are slow...check how many sacks they had last week.

You're willing to be demoted to a lesser position?  ;)  ;D

(or would that be a promotion?)

As far as Wesley's quickness.  When they played two teams Salsbury and Kean both in the top 11 (Whitewater is 8th) in not allowing sacks, their best defensive lineman, Mayes, got zero sacks and as a team they got one in each game.

From a rushing defense standpoint, Wesley is 5th in the country.   NCC was 6th and  Franklin 7th.   UWW ran for 140 net yards against NCC and 152 net against  Franklin.

While these two comparisons are not totally indicative of line play, they do reflect that good offensive lines can handle at least the pass rush and create some running lanes.  As always, the play on Saturday is all that counts.

I have real life experience in nuclear demolitions, suppose there are any teams that would like a nice, well placed, low yield extremely large bang.

Wesley brought a statistically great defense led by a "dominant " D-line to Alliance last year too and had similar results.  They competed and made Mount work for it, but it wasn't nearly the defensive line that it was made out to be.   Wesley surrendered 208 rushing on 49 attempts (4.2 yds/carry) and got ZERO sacks.  Whereas Mount surrendered 55 yards rushing on 30 attempts (1.8 yds/carry) and had FIVE sacks.  Ballgame.

The battle up front will favor Whitewater which is why UWW is a TD favorite in my book.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

warhawkdad, nice points, but the salisbury one is slightly skewed since they seldom throw the ball, they run the triple option and throw i would figure less than 10 times a game.  I was at the Kean game and their qb was adept at avoiding the rush, the game was a blowout.  your rushing stats are good, if wesley is able to limit uww to 150 yards rushing then we will have a game imo.  hscoach is correct, wesley was unable to get steady pressure last year on mount, but the rushing yards are a little skewed too, once shorts played starting playing qb he got most of them in the second half.  i agree with both of you, the line play will make the game as usual.  saw somewhere that wesley is bigger on both sides of the ball so maybe they need to worry about uww's quickness.

Wesley's defensive stats appear to be slightly to a little skewed much of the time!!  ;)

for those that are traveling to the game (especially if you plan on tailgating):

Here are the tailgating rules for Saturday's game:

* Tailgate begins at 10:00 am. (I'm guessing EST) Vehicles will be permitted to be in the designated area promptly at 10:00 am.

* There is a fee of $20.00 per vehicle to use the tailgating area  :o. This charge covers the cost for Safety Officers and Dover Police Officers.

* The tailgating area is only for those 21 years of age and over, with the exception of minors accompanied by an adult. Proper identification is required. Alcoholic beverages may not be consumed outside of the designated tailgate area.

* All beverages are limited to those contained in plastic or cans – no glass bottles or containers.

To those of us unable to make the trip to Delaware there is a viewing party planned at the Whitewater Country Club.  The club will open at 10:30am.  They'll put the internet feed on their big screen.  I've been to their party in the past and it's been a really good time.

WCC is located on Hwy 89 just south of the Hwy 12 bypass intersection with Hwy 89.

There must have been a very tough group of linebackers in the West.
