Clearly he didn't actually pay any attention to this year's playoffs.

I know, right?  Williams is usually a pretty good writer, though it's usually recaps, not editorial-type pieces.  It kind of makes me wonder if he just saw the Stagg Bowl match-up and made the conclusion that it was a cakewalk to get there for both teams.

For a start, cease to be a newbie.

Actually, it's not a start, it's the answer.

Once you reach a certain post threshold, you have the ability to "applaud" or "smite" a post that you read.

And so as to prevent raucus applause or eternal damnation, you can only "applaud" or "smite" each person once a day.

Get to 200 posts and you'll find out.

I was reading on the Wissports.net message boards about the UWRF coaching search open Q & A sessions.  These are second hand general feelings of one or two people there, so take it for what it's worth...

- Aaron Vlcko of UW-Stevens Point seemed to impress.

- Vincent Kehres of Mount Union talked candidly (maybe too candidly) about his D-I coaching aspirations and it didn't appear to go over very well with audience

Well as of right know it looks like thats all it is for him aspirations. O'Grady had been at the D1 level before he came to UWRF. In his defense I think most college coaches have aspirations to get to the D1 level.  Can't say it never happens as Zebrowski went from d3 head coach and offensive coordiantor to division one quarterback coach at northern illinois and know at Minnesota.

And how is his program doing so far?

He's gone 9-11 overall and 7-9 in IIAC play.  Of the 99 players on this year's roster 79 were either freshman or sophomores so they are still very young.  After two relatively successful seasons (6-4, 5-3 in 2006 and 7-3, 5-3 in 2007) the team he inherited went 2-8, 1-7 in 2008.

Zweifel took over in '09 and that team went 5-5.  The '10 season started with high hopes and then injuries hit the team at critical positions, including the #1 and #2 QBs and All-American receiver Michael Zweifel who was lost for the season.  There are hopes he will get a medical red-shirt for the '11 season.  The team finished '10 with a record of 4-6.
Reality is for those who lack imagination 😀

Zweifel has been granted a medical redshirt and will return for the 2011 season.

The thinking in Alliance is that the UWRF application and interview are practice for VK before he sets out on his own.   No one thinks he would accept it, if offered.
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

True, but you can't throw it in the face of a school that you want to hire you. In a job interview, you've got to make the employer believe this is the only place you'll ever want to be.  D-III schools already know that they are often stepping stones, but you can't go into an interview and tell them, "You're a stepping stone."

If that's true, then I hope he's learned this lesson.

Change of subject here.   I was really disappointed that UWW did not have one defensive player on either the d3football 1st or 2nd team All-American list.  Yes, Lane Olsen and Wes Hicks made it for 3rd team or honorable mentioned, but no-one on the first or second team.   This is what really concerns me about individual awards.   The way our defense stepped it up as the playoffs went on was truly amazing.  I know, the All-American award is for the full body of work for the season.

Regardless, hats off to the defense.  Lastly, while Lavell Coppage truly earned the MVP award at the Staff Bowl, the game played by Matt McCulloch was truly outstanding as well.

Man, I am looking forward to next year already! ;D :)

2013  WIAC PICKEM CHAMPION

"Pound The Rock!!!"

Gregg Easterbrook in his latest TMQ on ESPN.com included this tidbit:

"Bonus Obscure College Score of the Week: Wisconsin-Whitewater 31, Mount Union 21 (Division III championship). Five-foot-8, 170-pound Levell Coppage rushed for 299 yards -- mostly on power runs between the tackles -- as Whitewater took the Division III title from Mount Union for the second straight year. Located in Whitewater, Wis., the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has a three-part school vision statement. Point 3 is, "To be a leader among college student unions." (Meaning the building where kids hang out or student groups?)"

He also had a paragraph called the Anti-Heisman, which I guess is a compliment to the Gagliardi (so hard to tell with him).

BTW, the Obscure College Score of the Week was the DII championship game. Thought the NAIA game might've been a better choice!!  ;)

I couldn't agree more with you WD...I was disappointed to not see anyone on the 1st or 2nd team but I guess in the end they were all apart of the best team in the nation and got to show it each and every week...although they took the brunt of criticism throughout the playoffs for giving up points...they were AMAZING in the 2nd half of the stagg and truthfully throughout the entire season...WW's offense has always seemed to get the credit from those who do not follow the Warhawks or DIII as close until the playoffs but these defense were just as big if not a bigger reason for the great run WW is on right now...

I was present at all five open forum interviews. Coach K. impressed most people that I talked to. I asked the question about what goals he had in coaching. He was candid, saying "absolutely" when I asked whether he would eventually want to coach in D1. He was the only one who indicated an interest in coaching beyond D3. I give him credit for honesty.

Most thought he would have to be in RF for at least five years in order to turn the program around, and thus have a basis for moving up.

The  rumor today, after Kevin Bullis's very impressive appearance, was that the current coaches at RF were not impressed with Kehres. I think it's between Bullis, Aaron Vicko of Point, and Kehres.

All five candidates could do a good job.
