Just saw this on footballscoop. I guess UW-River Falls is going to get their second choice.
UW-River Falls: Our sources tell us UW-Whitewater assistant Kevin Bullis has turned down the UW-River Falls head coaching job.Good news for UW-Whitewater, bad news for UWRF but good news for whoever their number 2 choice is

Am I getting this right? Bullis put his name out there for the UWRF head coaching position, then when offered he turns it down? He have a change of heart?

Or am I missing something here ???

Glad to hear he's sticking around though  ;D

02 Warhawk--I'm guessing here, but when KB was interviewed, he made it plain that UWRF needed to hire another guy to coach/recruit. When that request got to the Chancellor, it probably got turned down.

Another guess:  the next in line is Aaron Vicko, Point OC.

Does UWRF truly have a commitment to winning from the top? My guess is its only lip service, like Safety programs at many companies. Blah, blah its #1, until you have to spend any money. You could hire Lou Holtz and UWRF would still likely struggle without some big support. That was certainly my experience when I was there. The Falcons will need a big fund raising campaign, steadily, every year and an administration that isn't shy about using money to win. Cash poor programs don't win every year. We all know this.

Start with a new stadium maybe?  :-\

Sometimes people just like being courted, then scare themselves and run. Not saying that's what happened here, but if your goal is to be a head coach and you turn down a job offer, there's a good chance you'll never see another head coach opportunity again.

Could be he wanted to go through the interview process to see how it went and didn't think he would be considered.  Then, when the offer came, decided it wasn't the right fit.

That isn't necessarily true.  Stan Zweifel turned down Platteville who then hired Emendorfer and Zweifel didn't have a problem getting another opportunity.  I don't think being courted and then scared was the case with Bullis at all, not even close.  I think Fred is more than likely spot on.  Some people don't want to take any job just to have a job.  The situtation has to be right for them.

Coach Bullis put his family first.  Also previous experience with how UW-RF treats the athletic department did not help.  Plus he has a great job with the National Champs.  God bless him!!  He is a great coach and UWW should be ecstatic that he is staying.

02 Warhawk,

What does the 2-deep roster look like going  into  2011 for UWW?

Best Wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year! :)

tough to tell, but based on what they had in 2010, my guess is this:

QB: Blanchard, Brekke/Knapp
RB: Coppage, Pirtle
WR: Huber, Menzel(?)
TE: Ford, Graham (?)
O-Line: Allemand is our only returning starter from the o-line

D-line: Minette, Casper, Hohlstein, Endes, Keeser
LB: Arnold, Borland, Williams,
DB: McCollum, Kiesow, Overton, Convington, Wenkman

that's the best I can do...but a lot can change between now and fall of 2011.

QB: Blanchard, Brekke/Knapp
RB: Coppage, Pirtle
WR: Huber, Menzel, Howard, return from injury
TE: Ford, Graham (?)
O-Line: Allemand is our only returning starter from the o-line  Logan Allemand at LT, Norris at LG, Poenitsch at Center, RG -  Misalek/Hansen, and RT Olson

D-line: Minette, Casper, Hohlstein, Endes, Keeser
LB: Arnold, Borland, Williams,
DB: McCollum, Kiesow, Overton, Convington, Wenkman

I am also advised that a couple of transfers are rumored in the mix, mostly skill positions, but supposedly one offensive lineman as well.

I think we will be in good shape in 2011, kind of like 2009 when the 0-line was somewhat young and had to come of age through the season.

Not necessarily true, especially if you can say, "They really did not have a commitment to winning and would not even work on a plan to do so."   That is if it is true that Bullis asked for a commitment to an additional position to recruit, etc...

We better "hope", Fred Falcon, that Aaron Vicko's the pick, because otherwise we're left with three private school guys, two with no head coaching experience and a third who walked away from his team just a week before the opening of pre-season camp.  Stan Z all over again?

I am excited about the defense next year- the three guys listed at LB are all excellent players.
OLine should be pretty darn good as three guys listed have good experience- Allemand (starter) Norris and Olson.
From what I hear we have very good TE's returning.
Receiver is the position that concerns me- Rusch was nearly automatic. Also, I don't know who the deep threat will be. Brandes was such a weapon long.

It appears to me that Detwiller has more experience in the WIAC then Vlcko, and has been a part of significantly better teams.

Bisondad

Don't know if this has been discussed, but any news on the HC situation at UW-L?

UniqueInsight38

Rookie11,

Can you give us some background on Detwiller?  I do not know much about him?

Thanks
