Vince Lombardi arrested on Super Bowl sunday?

Aaron Rogers (note the spelling) in fight with a woman during the Super Bowl? No one arrested.

yea, that was a bit of good news this morning. It should be one of our tougher non-conference games we had in quite sometime, I'm looking forward to it.

Too bad Indiana schools aren't considered regional games though. so it won't affect our SOS at all.

Tough to ask for a better year for football in the state of Wisconsin.

Warhawks - National Champs
Badgers - Big Ten Champs/Rose Bowl appearance
Packers - Super Bowl Champs  :'(

02 Warhawk,

I do like the Buckeyes Men's BB to win the Big 10! +k  ;D ;D

Yea, i think they're a lock for the regular season title...I see them losing maybe two games (@ UW, and @ Purdue) before the Big 10 tourny. So with a three game lead they are looking good.

Were any of the WIAC fans surprised by UWL's pick for HC? :-\

Pretty sure BW, isn't.

I don't have any solid reason to suspect so but I just don't see Kehrnes getting the job.  Of course I could be totally mistaken.  It wouldn't be the first time and I doubt it would be the last.

I am not surprised.  Detwiller has a great resume with varied coaching experiences at several programs from linebackers coach to strength coach to head of football operations to academic coordinator and he is a home grown Wisconsin boy who has played and coached in the WIAC. Not to mention his last 7 year stint as an assistant at Wartburg where they have had a very successful program. Solid preparation that is required to take over and be successful at a head coaching job.  I think the Eagles have found themselves a good one and I wish him luck except every time he plays the WARHAWKS!!!  ;)

No, not surprised. Looking over the candidates body of work, using the examples fbf413 pointed out, Detwiller kind of stands out in hindsight. Initially, I felt the UWL grad might be the first choice. He is a HC, but not at a very strong program. Kehres is going to have a tough time getting a HC position, IMO, especially in this part of the world. I think it's plausible to think he's in the position he's in because of his father - I mean would he be a DC anywhere else if it wasn't for his dad? I'm not too sure. I would've liked to hear from him in an open forum-style interview to understand his views. I also thought Moreland from Western Mich looked strong on paper because of his connections to Wisconsin. After reading the release from UWL, it sounded like Detwiller really bowled them over at La Crosse & they got the man they were looking for. He's got a major rebuilding job to do. The La Crosse people seem unanimous that he's up to the challenge.

Yes, I am surprised.  Mostly because he has no head coaching experience.  But he sounds like a good pick and I'd love to see him turn it around at LAX.  Good Luck!

BoBo,

Let's give credit to V.Kehres as a good coach on his own. Since becoming
DC, from former DC Don Montgomery, the Raider defense is almost always at the top of the  NCAA charts in many categories. While Coach L. Kehres focuses on the offense and total team, V.Kehres has distinguished himself. He did win Coordinator for D3 this year!

Why would he have that much trouble in the upper mid-west?  He was a finalist for two WIAC schools and could also coach in a good conference like CCIW as well. All I am saying, is that Coach L.Kehres may have been a huge factor at the outset, but V. Kehres has become a first rate coach, enough to be among the top of list for the positions that he has applied! :)

You make a good point, BD, but every HC had a FIRST head coaching job and got there by working their way up the ranks and Detwiller sure seems to have done that and done it well.

Also good points, 68.  Making it to the final four for both WIAC jobs is a credit to Coach V. Kehres's accomplishments so far.  "Success is when preparation meets opportunity," and he has made the most of his opportunity.  Coach V. Kehres needs no career advice from me, clearly, but his first hire away from UMU may need to be more of a lateral move, another DC job perhaps, in order to prove himself in another program under another head coach that is not his father.  More time, "moving up the ranks," maybe called for or at the very least, apply for a HC position less coveted or a program with less notoriety in the D-3 world than a WIAC school or CCIW school if he is willing to do that. I imagine there are a lot of D-3 programs with varying degrees of success that would love to hire him as their head coach.  Whatever his next move is, I wish him the best of luck and he will get there, I'm sure!

How about this for an example: Lance Leipold

He's not doing too bad for himself at his first official head coaching position  ;)

warhawkbabe

Your right 02 Lance is doing well and everyone who complained when he was hired I am sure is know happy with the results 3 stagg bowl championships in 4 years along with three AFCA coach of the year awards and one runners up in those four years as well.
However the difference between VK and LL is that Lance was at Wisconsin and Nebraska as well as Nebraska Omaha before he came to whitewater and saw how three different head coaches ran their respective programs.
A lot like Detwiller he has been involved in two different programs under two different head coaches.
If your only at one place the majority of your career you only know one way of doing it which is the way the head coach has been doing it. Where you have worked the longest.
A perfect example is Lance took the 07 team to a movie the night before the stagg bowl which is something he learned from Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez.
I am sure Vince Kehres will get his opportunity as a head coach eventually. Being a finalist for jobs in the WIAC is pretty impressive. Especially since this is the first time I have heard of him applying for any head coaching jobs.
