He wasn't the first, though.

That Beaver guy was pretty good too!   :D

11 straight years of having a 1000 yard+ season for a running back

Maybe the POUND THE ROCK mantra for the OL fuels that running attack?

I got a Karma Ding last week for something I posted over here that I thought was relatively tame.  Just trying to participate in some offseason discussion without ruffling any Warhawk feathers.

My personal belief is that it all starts up front.  Even great RBs are going to struggle if the defensive players are meeting them in the backfield or stuffing the holes they're trying to run through.   A great RB will break some plays but I'm not sure that they would do it often enough if the defense is stuffing the OL.  On the other hand an average running back is going to look pretty good if he's running through holes large enough for a semitruck and past defensive players who are either laying on their backs or struggling to free themselves from a blocker.

I replenish that karma ding for you dad

By far, the UWW O-lines have been the best in D-III football over the last three or four years.  Those guys just mash.......I HATE EM!   ;)

Word is the NCAA is considering allowing everyone else to play with 12 defensive players against UWW to try to reach a competitive balance.  Another move they are considering is disallowing any Mount receiver who shows even a smidge of NFL talent to see the field.

You heard it here first!   ;D

Could be in the scheme.
It is the scheme, the coaching, and the talent.  When you add a talented RB, with vision, it adds up to......POUND THE ROCK   ;D

IMHO- there is no "chicken or egg" question at all. It starts with a coaching staff's philosophy to Pound the Rock, which requires recruiting the right kids, developing them and designing the schemes.
Add a talented running back to the above- and you end up with a successful running game.

Levell went untouched for the game winning touchdown run in the 2010 Stagg- despite 9 in the box.
It's the o-line all the way.

I'm glad you brought that up...I was going to make the same point.

That play was ALL the offensive line. Coppage didn't do anything except run where the hole openned up...then it was a foot race to the endzone. No fancy cut back, spin move, break a tackle, hurdle, etc...

Click on my signature to see the play.  ;D

I firmly believe a great O-line makes an average RB look good...it all starts with the 5 guys up front. With that being said, it'll be interesting to see what sort of numbers Coppage puts up with 4 news guys upfont this season.

Agree, UWW has had great lines for a number of years. BadgerWarhawk is right, a great running game starts with the line, but is does not hurt to have a game breaker carrying the ball either.

Here is a question for UWW supporters: What year was the best line, and going into 2011, how will  this line stack up (on paper at least)? :-\

I'm not sure there was a better line than the 2010 team. Three All-Americans (two first-team, one second-team).

Sakman 1111

In my opinion success of the Oline is threefold.....(1)Talent (2)Great coaching(Zwiefel and Dinkel) (3) Exceptional running backs.......By the way 02 talented Olineman are not all from Wisconsin.....most are but not all......

...which Coppage is more than capable of if the situation requires it - case in point, the goal line dash vs Trine!! I think he did it all on that play.
