That play was ALL the offensive line. Coppage didn't do anything except run where the hole openned up...then it was a foot race to the endzone. No fancy cut back, spin move, break a tackle, hurdle, etc...

...which Coppage is more than capable of if the situation requires it - case in point, the goal line dash vs Trine!! I think he did it all on that play.

Oh yea, that play was all Coppage...Last year UWW had the luxury of the best OLine and best RB in DIII. Killer combination.

LOL...I don't think some people like that we're talking about this....my karma has dropped quite a bit in the past few days... :P

Mr. Ypsi

02, you definitely didn't get any hits from me!

I agree that the OLine is generally the key for running backs, but there are occasional gifted exceptions.  Barry Sanders made it into the NFL HoF with NO decent OLine.  If there were such a stat kept, I suspect he LOST more yards than anyone else in NFL history.  But IF he escaped those in-the-backfield tacklers, he just might go all the way!  No offense to Gale Sayers, Walter Payton, or any other gifted runners, but Barry Sanders was the most exciting runner ever.  (On sheer power, Jim Brown may have been even better, but I'll put them 1a and 1b.)

Since he wanted to still be able to walk at age 50, he retired in his prime.  If he had had decent protection up front, he would have set the rushing yardage at a level never to even be approached.  I'm old enough that I recall Sayers in his prime - Barry Sanders was MORE electrifying.  Unless he got immediately smushed (which happened WAY too often >:(), on EVERY play you held your breath wondering if he would go for the TD.

BoBo

^ Both tremendous players - Before that first knee injury in his 4th season (1968), the "Kansas Comet" was as electrifying as any player I ever saw first hand (running or returning), that includes Barry Sanders...and this comes from a Packer fan as you can easily tell!!  ;) Hated when the Pack played either one of them. Travis Williams was my favorite kickoff returner, BTW!!

Not intending any disrespect to the UWW OL

*Not saying UWW's OL is Average...

I got a Karma Ding last week for something I posted over here that I thought was relatively tame.  Just trying to participate in some offseason discussion without ruffling any Warhawk feathers.

I hear ya pal!! I put the  ;) in there for a reason!!

There seems to be a lot of karma dinging around here for relatively tame posts, or even no new posts at all. Not cool.

Hello all

I just found the Wisconsin area of this board so I've been catching up a little.

I've got a question for you UWW followers, any thoughts on who the incoming QB's are? With such a loaded 1-3, I'm curious who they attracted. I know they don't name recruits at D3, but I figured with so many faithful Warhawk followers there might be some information.

Thanks.

Go Trine!!!

ps - I get dinged just for my icon, but it doesn't bother me. I haven't found the K+ to be an indicator of strength of post regarding what I've read over in the MIAA North board.  ;)

Thunder, I don't know all the QB's coming in, but I did talk with one that was supposed to transfer from NIU.  Not sure if it is a certainty, but it's nice to have both QBs coming back.  I'm hopeful for a great year from Blanchard and also hope he stays healthy.  I hear good things about the new receivers too.  If the O Line continues to replenish, this could be a heck of an offense.

Retiring when he did was a great decision......as you can see not much has changed in Detroit. This draft made me, as a Packer fan, rejoice. Between the Christian Ponder decision and the drafting of another D lineman and WR instead of an offensive lineman by Detroit I feel much more secure.

96, I too would have wished for an OLineman.  But with both Suh and Fairly coming at him, I hope Aaron Rogers has his life insurance policy paid up! :o ;D

The Lions have some gaping holes remaining, but their defensive line may just be the best since the Purple People Eaters or the Steel Curtain. :D

BoBo

Fairly could very well be a one hit wonder...or that's what I'm hoping for!!  ;)

BoBo, with the Lions so recently the only 0-16 team in NFL history, you gonna rain on my parade ALREADY! :o ;D

May the Pack have a total brain-fart and hire Matt Millen as their GM! :D ::)

First of all, there is 1 too many intelligent persons in the Packer family to allow a numskull like Matt Millen anywhere near GB. I don't believe he's even allowed in Wisconsin!! And secondly, as a Packer stockholder (proud holder of 2 shares), I will make it my personal crusade to never allow a present or former member of the Lions front office anywhere near a policy making position with the Green Bay Packers.!!  ;)  :D
In fact, the only former Lion I actually like is Bill Schroeder.  I forgave him a few years ago for spending those 2 dreadful years wearing the Honolulu Blue and silver at the twilight of his career.

Which former QB from NIU, AJ Hill?  I'm went to HS in DeKalb and follow the Huskies pretty regularly.

I couldn't imagine it would be DeMarcus Grady, he's going into his final year and seemed to have decent numbers when he played. Then again, maybe he wants to go play his final year, and he's not happy with playing 25% of the time.

The WarHawks look like they have a ton depth at the QB position, at Trine we have a few good QB's coming in, so although it will be tough replace Eric Watt, I think we will be in good shape at that position. We will need some receivers to step up though, a lot of drops in the spring game.

Go Trine!!!

Not really, we had several not return and at spring practice the third string quarterback quit.  So with the exception of recruits and maybe a transfer, we only have Blanchard and Brekke, although that is one heck of a 1-2 punch.  At the spring practices I attended Blanchard looked phenomenal.   ;D
