Interesting that they are playing 3 games in a 4 day stretch...July 8th, July 10th and again on July 12th. Three day rest and then the Gold Medal game would be July 16th...so 4 games in an 8 game stretch. Bet they sleep well come July 17th  :D

Oshfb,

Nope...you have it correct.  My guess is (without being TOO over-confident) the team isn't that worried about the schedule due to the competition.

I would think all 39 or so guys will see plenty of action during pool play, so they will not be as gassed as one might think come the final game.  It was certainly the case when I attended the 19U Jr. World Championships in Canton a few years ago.

Just checked into my hotel room here in Crawfordsville, Indiana. I made the trip down from Whitewater to do a story on former UWW linebacker Lane Olson. Lane was named to the roster of TEAM USA earlier this year in advance of next month's IAAF Senior World Football Championship to be held in Austria.

When I fired up my computer I had the following email waiting for me from Team USA media representative Steve Alic.

"Lane has decided to excuse himself from Team USA's roster as he is pursuing a roster spot with a UFL team, Alic tells voiceseyeonfootball.blogspot.com. "Unfortunately, this precludes Lane from making the necessary time commitment that playing for Team USA would command."

I am told that Lane has been "worked out" for at least one team in the UFL this summer. Lane is not currently listed on any of the five UFL rosters.

wow...that's a bit shocking. thanks for the update, voice.

I guess you got to go where the money is...

I wonder why Team USA is training in Crawfordsville, Indiana of all places? I guess the team is trying to stay completey anonymous to anyone having a desire to follow them!!

Sorry your trip is a bust, voice. Is there anything interesting to do in the boonies of Indiana to make a trip there worthwhile?

I'm not surprised by Lane's decision.  He wants to keep playing football beyond the end of July.  His chances of making an NFL roster weren't good to begin with but what with the lockout going on they diminish daily.  While I still believe there will be a football preseason and teams will be signing free agents the time frame in which they have to make a roster is very limited.  In Lane's case he also has to learn a new position and I'm not sure that there's going to be enough time for that to happen.  Playing in the UFL would give him the opportunity to learn that position and get some experience at it.  That could be a significant benefit down the line.

I think we need to awaken this site somehow- I feel the need for Hawk talk.
Maybe a conversation topic.  I watched some of the 2010 Stagg and the 2 nd quarter got me thinking "what's the best/most exciting quarter (maybe half) of football in this 7 year run?

Quarter:  1st Q in 2007 Stagg (electric atmosphere and incredible tenacity by UWW).
Half:  1st Half 2009 Stagg (offense was unstoppable).

emma17, first quarter, quarterfinal Round '07 vs Wabash (Dec 1) in that snowstorm. . . in 11:27, 4 TD's in only 18 plays; 3 INT's on defense to set up 3 of the quick scores in a 47-7 Warhawk shellacking. The talk all season was how would a California QB deal with late season Wisconsin weather. . . the answer was a rather resounding NO PROBLEM!!  ;)  The Warhawks went on to defeat UMHB for the second time that season in the semi's before beating Mount & winning their first National Championship 31-21 in the game you mentioned. IMO, the snow made that game memorable. Also, Brady Pittz actually outgained Beaver on the ground 156-145 yards in the same number of carries (21). That was a fun game to watch (on TV, that is!!)

Bobo- good memory- snow does add something special to a game. The California Kid was as gutty as he was good. That 07 year was special in many ways- that rematch w UMHB was a heck of a game.  2007 Stagg had a snow/rain mix that created a surreal atmosphere under the lights

Best half of football in my mind was against Linfield in Oregon that I have seen in the last 10 years......of course I admit to being predjudice.....Played great against a tremendous opponent at their field......

UW-Whitewater's 44-41 win at Linfield in 2005 was an "instant classic" and must be classified as the "most exciting game," from kick-off to final whistle," in UW-Whitewater football history.  Remember - Linfield was the defending Division III national champs, ranked No. 1, and a prohibitive favorite to making it back to the '05 Stagg Bowl.

Sakman and Voice,
The Linfield game probably was the game of games.  I wasn't there but I've seen the video, a thriller for sure and maybe the game that truly set UWW on its present course.
Another great half was the first half vs Willamette.   AA filled in for a great performance and the passing attack was smoking.
