Jared Jenkins of UWSP will get another shot to catch on in the NFL. This time with the Rams.

I must be out of the loop; I thought he went to camp with the Lions. If so, that was a short stay.  :-\  :o

To have a legitimate shot to win the game- late in the fourth quarter the outcome is in doubt.

There is a line from the movie Charlie Wlson's War that says "We'll see!" is applicable here. I give UW-
a great deal of credit for their scheduling, but the Raiders seldom lose at home. Lost to ONU 2005 (21-14)
was the first time in 100 home games. Hope some UW-Osh fans can make it! :)
The Raiders seldom lose anywhere- I want to say they lost most recently at home than they did on the road.
My intent wasnt to make a bold/provocative statement, but more to recognize a team that is doing the right things to at least give them a chance to compete at the highest level. I can't imagine intimidation being much a factor given the game last year. IMO Oshkosh will have to find a way to compete physically w MT as I believe coach K will want to restore that part of Mt's game. From a skill perspective, Oshkosh should have the players and offensive scheme to worry Mt.
I think UWW will face similarly tougher games as I have to believe the "second tier" teams have now had enough time to recruit and plan to have a better chance.
This year will really be a test of taking it one game at a time.

Oshkosh is tough for me to figure out.  I agree they're doing the right thing scheduling top level competition but I don't believe they'll get it done using their smoke and mirrors offensive system and they'll have to be considerably improved defensively to compete with UMU.  I'd love to see them win that one though and it would certainly cause me to reassess my opinion.

Been thinking about 17's comments for a few days regarding the Titans chances against the Mount this year.  Just decided to comment on it and you had beat me to it, BW.  Absolutely agree.  I love their new found tenacity scheduling the likes of Central and UMU last season and again this fall and Coach Brown has had another off season under his belt with those boys in the weight room but I will need to a see better than a 3-4 finish in the WIAC before I think they have a chance to upset the Raiders especially in Alliance.  They do have 17 of 24 starters back and Wara put up some serious numbers last season so I won't be surprised if they improve on that record but toppling the Mount?  Don't see it.   They need to topple some of the WIAC top tier teams first, IMHO.   But I will surely be rooting for them!   ;)

Not tough for me.  I don't buy into them because of that goofy offensive system they employ. And their defense (& team as a whole) really lack consistency.  IMO, they are a team about half way up the mountain, but not developing further; kind of stagnant due to the lack of overall depth. They need more than a few starters returning. Mount puts this one away in the first half.  Raider 68, who wins the starting nod at QB for the Raiders? Do they start with the dreaded QB platoon system?

It is a sign of progress when the Lions can afford to release any warm bodies! :P  As a d3 fan, I hope the Lions goofed; as a Lions fan, I hope they had someone even better! ;D

...and the Rams have now cut Jenkins after one day. Doesn't seem like this is going to work out.

Re:  Oshkosh vs. Mt.
Bobo I understand your lack of confidence in the Titans given their overall season.  I think it's interesting how they played UWW and Mt though.  Both games were close games into the third quarter.  UWW completely dominated in the run game and put them away in the fourth-true to form.  Against Mt, Oshkosh actually won the ground game-and lost the air game.
I realize I am stepping out on this one, but it seems to me that Oshkosh had the talent to play with the top teams for a good deal of the game- but didn't quite have the total game to get it done.  I'm counting on the experience they had last year, the experience they'll gain in week 1 vs Central and a strong returning roster.

BoBo

emma17, I guess we have a different opinion of close game. Maybe I'm being a bit harsh on the Titans, but until they show me week-in, week-out they can put in a consistant effort, I will always be a doubter!!  ;) They could start changing my view by beating Central at home on Sept 3.

MasterJedi

Oshkosh has the offense to compete, they just never seem to have a defense that can stop anyone. That's why I don't think they'll be able to compete, they need to put the defense together first. My cousin played there in the 90s, he said it was the same then too. Their offense will allow them to hang with Mount for awhile, and then they'll fall behind when they can't stop their offense.

skunks_sidekick

Unless Oshkosh improves DRAMATICALLY on defense, the game will never be in doubt.  Last year's game was one that was basically never in doubt, even though Oshkosh "kep it close".  The fact remained that anytime Oshkosh would get a little closer, Mount would just go straight down the field and score at will.

My only concern for Mount is there lack (relatively speaking) of a power running game.  Murray is a serviceble back, but he just doesn't seem to have that "next level" that the really good ones seem to have.  Maybe he will be improved, or there is a freshman/sophomore that will step up.......time will tell.

All reports regarding QB is that it's Seaman's job to lose.  Pillato certainly showed some very promising things, so I guess Mount is in pretty good hands (especially since the phenom freshman is coming in).

Skunks,
I see your point about about Mt. scoring every time Oshkosh scored-no doubt last year Mt was superior.  But in the end Oskkosh put up 28 points- thats twice as many points as any opponent Mt played besides UWW.
I'm not saying Mt won't be superior this year, but I do feel Oshkosh has a better chance this year.  Mt has good receivers, but they don't have Cecil and they don't have Miller- and they certainly didn't demonstrate a dominating run game.
I think Mt's strength this year will be their defense- especially in the secondary.  The pass game is Oshkosh's strength- so we should see strength on strength.  As coach K is calling plays this year, I have to believe he will work on reestablishing the run game.  If it works, then I agree Oshkosh will most likely be in trouble.

Who is the phenom?
